Sure, Phaedra Parks hired ballerinas to dance at her baby shower -- and Dwight introduced her, Apollo, and Ayden as "The Royal Family" -- but that doesn't make her a snob. Not in Kandi Burruss' eyes, anyway.
"I think that Phaedra has been really getting a bad rap this year, but in person Phaedra's a really cool person," The Real Housewives of Atlanta star tells iVillage. "I feel like on the show it's too uptight, not the Phaedra that I've hung out with."
Although Phaedra's a Renaissance woman with thick skin, she admits that the words strangers type behind a computer can sting. "Any time personal things are exposed in the media, [and] people who don't know you are commenting on it, it can be very hurtful," the Southern belle tells iVillage. "I've been more hurt and my mother has been more hurt by the comments, and you know, people saying things who know nothing about us."
For her part, Kandi doesn't want people to view her as a one-dimensional reality TV star, which can conjure up chilling images of Heidi Montag and Jon Gosselin. "I know some people [say], 'I don't want to be looked at as a reality TV star.' I definitely don't want that, either. I don't want people to think, 'Oh OK, she just does reality TV.' That's not my goal in life. But it's not bad to be a part of a show – especially if it's a hit show."
Watch Phaedra defend her behavior on The Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion this Sunday.

I agree with Kandi. Phaedra gave us a very painted image at the beginning of the show but we got to see her real side as time went on. I like her now. She is a southern belle, no doubt, but she is also bright and has an objective view of things. Read her blogs to get a better glimpse of her. She owns what she says and is willing to hear what others have to say instead of arguing all the time.
Phadera, Darlin' you are the Southern Belle of all Southern Bells, and it takes one to truly know one. Incidentally, my husband is a Northerner and he couldn't believe I knew EXACTLY what a "Sip N See" was. He heard the term when it was first used on the show and looked straight at me for translation. When I explained it to him, he shook his head and said "well, I guess you'd have to be a southern Belle to know that.
I totally get you Phadera, from the Derby Hat Baby Shower to the peeling the peaches for your own drinks, and I absolutel love it !!!! my friends are always waiting with baited breath to see what traditionally southern thing I'm going to do next, and I never let them down.
Stay true to you!
I like you Phaedra, you are a very classy woman, mix with just enough thug to handle what you need to. Don't let the world comments, sting you or your life. You first be true to God, Family, and Yourself. You are one of my favorites on the show. Keep during what you do.................I love class mix with thug.
