At Home With Amy Sedaris, Amy Sedaris’s new show, airs tonight at 10:30 ET on TruTV. From previews, it looks like a home economics class in a haunted house starring adult children whose parents were Beetlejuice and your grandmother with fetal alcohol syndrome. It looks demented, in other words. Excited to watch it, I checked out Amy Sedaris’s Instagram page, and remembered something absolutely essential about her — she’s passionate about pet rabbits.
Sedaris is such an expert at bunnies that she created a series of Howcast videos on how to take care of a rabbit with bunny expert Mary Cotter. Topics they cover include “How to Determine a Rabbit’s Age,” “How to Give Your Rabbit a Massage,” and “How To Know When To Euthanize Your Pet Rabbit.”
Over the years, Amy has had three pet rabbits. The first, Tattletale, was an impulse buy from a pet shop in the 1990s. The second, Dusty, was adopted, and passed away in 2010. She keeps both of their remains on a shelf in her bedroom, according to an interview she gave to Vogue.
Amy Sedaris’s current bunny is named Tina. Tina is three years old, and she was adopted from the New York City chapter of the House Rabbit Society, where Sedaris also volunteers. According to Tina’s adoption description, she is a medium-sized agouti with a deformed front leg that she taps around like a cane when she walks. With her fast beating heart, and her slightly skewed appearance, she is the perfect companion for Sedaris.
Tina lives a very pampered life. Along with getting hour-long massages from Sedaris, she enjoys clothes and furniture designed for her by her mommy’s many artist friends.
