Fathers rejoice! A new survey says that women love men with a dad bod.
Planet Fitness, a national fitness facility, commissioned the study from more than 2000 participants – which revealed that 69 percent of women find dad bods attractive. And that’s a good thing since 61 percent of men with dad bods are proud of how they look.
So what exactly is a dad bod? It's defined it as a male physique that is “relatively fit, but neither lean nor muscular.” According to the survey, these men – and the women who love them – are “more widely perceived to be self-confident, committed to their jobs and have happy marriages.”
“There’s nothing wrong with liking a dad with a dad body. It’s the person that counts,” declares matchmaker Susan Trombetti of Exclusive Matchmaking.
It’s a refreshing notion, since often times in dating and matchmaking, “weight can be considered a detriment; the fitter you are the more marketable you must be, right?” But Susan suspects that when a woman encounters a man with a dad bod, she thinks, “This guy is ready to nest with me and have children.”
It doesn’t hurt that women tend to be more forgiving when it comes to the shape of a man. “Women are much more acceptable and open-minded,” Susan says. “We’re not nearly as particular about the way a guy looks. Financial stability and compatibility, that’s what counts – and if the guy has a sense of humor, that’s great too.”
Not to mention, it may make some ladies feel they can spend less time on the treadmill. “Women don’t want to be intimidated that they have to go to the gym all the time, just to keep up,” Susan exclaims. “It takes some of the pressure off her to be perfect too.”
This Father’s Day, spend your afternoon hanging with the dad who's working his biceps lifting a burger to his mouth rather than the one you’re waiting to finish his bench presses.
