What's more romantic than a trip to Italy? Surely only a romantic honeymoon to the bel paese with your new spouse. That was the plan for newlyweds Faizan Patel and his wife Sana from New Delhi until, two days before departure, Sana discovered that she had lost her passport. With no way for his new wife to replace her passport in time and with the sad realization that she would be unable to leave the country, Faizan did something that perhaps only the most wanderlusting of jetsetters could understand: He went by himself.
After posing for selfies at the airport, and tweeting "Travelling to Italy without wifey. #Yay #PartyTime #HoneyMoonwithoutHoney," Faisan left for Milan on a Turkish Airlines flight, with only a picture of Sana's face for company.
Bless him, though, he made sure to include his wife in his travel photos, like this one where he's posing at the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Sad! But, it seems, all may not be lost. Faizan's tweets were seen by Sushma Swaraj, India's minister of external affairs, who rather boldy tweeted back: "Ask your wife to contact me. I will ensure that she is with you on the next seat." The minister quickly followed up to say a duplicate passport would be issued.
"This trip was entirely planned by her," Faizan told CNN. "I wish to see her next to me soon."
Sadly, though, complications of immigration regulations have put the brakes on the happy couple getting time in Italy together. Sana was quickly reissued a new passport but now has to wait for a visa to be issued so that she can travel to Italy. Will it arrive in time for the pair to salvage some honeymoon? We're glued to Faizan's Twitter account to find out.
