Top Chef's Gail Simmons Reveals 5 Foods and Drinks She Loves Right Now, and Where to Find Them

These outstanding treats definitely belong in The Good Place

By Staff

In NBC’s new comedy The Good Place, starring Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, Bell’s character accidentally ends up in a blissful afterlife zone that’s a lot like heaven, but she thinks there must be some mistake: Bell doesn’t believe she deserves to be in a place where “happiness is eternal” and where you can drink “30 glasses of wine with no hangover.” To find out what happens next, check out The Good Place, Thursdays at 8:30/7:30c on NBC.

Meanwhile, all this got us thinking, what would be in our Good Place? Loads of fabulous foods and drinks, for starters: All the cheese, all the pasta, all the desserts, all the cocktails… To help narrow the list down, we asked Top Chef judge Gail Simmons to give us her picks of 5 heavenly foods and drinks that she thinks belong in the “good place.” From sweet to savory to boozy, Gail’s shortlist has our mouths watering. Note: This list is in random order—and for maximum bliss, Gail advises that “these should NOT be eaten at the same time.”

"Full sour pickles from Guss' Pickles in NYC"

This nearly century-old pickle purveyor is a cult favorite among New Yorkers, but anyone can experience their addictive full sour, half sour and other pickle varieties by ordering online.

“Casa Dragones Tequila with limes”

Casa Dragones’s ultra-smooth, irresistible sipping tequila is handcrafted in small batches and packaged in a gorgeous bottle.

“Dark chocolate (70% or higher only)”

If you’re craving the highest-quality dark chocolate, with the most intense flavor, depth and nuance, don’t bother with anything less than 70 percent.

“Bbq brisket from Franklin Barbecue in Austin”

Locals cram in all day for pitmaster Aaron Franklin’s mouthwatering Texas barbecue; one visit and you’ll understand why it’s worth the wait.

“Coconut cake by GigiBlue.”

Four layers of decadent cake make up this must-try coconut dessert, topped with clouds of meringue and toasted coconut flakes, from NYC’s elegant GigiBlue.

Luckily you can find all of these items here on earth, but tasting them is definitely an out-of-this-world experience.
