It's not easy being platinum. To maintain her signature, California-girl shade of blonde, Gwen Stefani puts in some serious time at the salon. The Voice judge's longtime hairstylist, Danilo Dixon, recently chatted with Refinery29 about what it takes to keep Gwen looking hot.
First of all, Danilo veers away from bleach. (As you may have heard, the stuff is not exactly gentle on hair.) The stylist developed a bleach-free formula just for his superstar client, and—wait for it—he uses it to dye her hair every. single. Monday.
Gwen, as you may know, is not a natural blond. We hope we're not crushing any dreams here. But if you want a peek at the singer's true color, just watch the video for Cool. "We did her hair in her natural shade [for the video], maybe a little darker," Danilo said.
The pro also gave Refinery some tips on what's trending in the world of tresses. He believes that scalp health will become an ever more prominent topic of discussion—and why not? "New treatments for your scalp are going to be huge, because people are realizing how important it is for the production of your hair. Hair is not a very glamorous thing, for all the money we spend on it," he reasoned.
Speaking of money, we wonder just how much those weekly salon visits cost. But, judging from Gwen's constantly on-point style...
whatever it costs, it's worth it.
