A Lesson Learned

Jeff discusses his "near-death" experience, and weighs in on Jenni's stint as boss.

September 16, 2009

Although it may not have been intentional (still suspect), Zoila did almost take my life. I still don't understand why anyone would keep old bacon, let alone cook it and serve it, but it happened. As always, I try to see the lesson in times of adversity, and I did learn something during my near-death experience.

Jenni and I have been having some difficulty lately. As an aspiring actress, Jenni is going on more auditions, and it has been a struggle building a new business while trying to work around her schedule. I started to question her loyalty to the business, but my doubts where proven wrong the day she took over. It's odd that she has never been given more responsibility after 8 years of employment, but Ryan always stepped in when I needed help. That was not an option the day I got sick, so I asked Jenni to step in. I am so impressed with the way she handled things. It's a difficult job, and although everyone wants to be liked, you often have to move into what I call "bitch mode" to get things done. I didn't think Jenni had it in her, but I was wrong. She rose to the challenge and handled two tough situations very effectively. I was wrong to question Jenni's loyalty and devotion to me and my business. My near-death experience helped me to learn a very valuable lesson. I might even give Jenni a holiday bonus, although that is not definite.

Dear Jeff,

My heart broke for you when I saw the re-union show. As I watched each episode, like you I was trying to keep an open mind and if it was true, wait for Ryan to slip up. But he did slip. When you revealed the deceptive web site fiasco that was ultimately his undoing in my opinion, it was right there in your face! How much more obvious could it get? For him to flip the script and turn it back on you was just ridiculous. His guilt was obvious at that point.

I was so sad to see that Ryan chose to lose a part of his family over material things. Money is not everything, it's great to have, but not worth ruining a partnership and breaking one's heart over. He didn't just hurt you, he hurt his daughter. She will miss out on the beauty and honesty that is you... lol... It really does come across, yes even through all of your OCD and picking on people, that you are a wonderful, caring and generous person. In the end I actually feel sorry for Ryan that he did not see what he had in you. His loss... And Chloe's... who cares about Dayle?... lmao...

Can't wait for season 4! Love your new assistant too... She is hysterical. Jenny too! Zoila too!

Keep on Flipping out!
Elle

Lots of helpful information. I have bookmarked your site.

Jeff,

You ahve a dry sense of humor as do I and I think you are FUNNY!

You go through help quickly but thereis nothing wrong with that, you know what you want. Thankfully for us you keep those people around you who add value and are MORE than hired help, they are family.

Jenni you cannot beat her, Zoila is amazing.. everyone hopes you and Ryan can at least be civil and friends if not business partners. As Judge Judy would say - love the kids more than you hate the partner. C-to the H, loe is the cutest and worth havingin your life. Make it work Jeff. PS...What is with the short season - 6 episodes or so? We need 22 a year...come on!!!

I could watch you 24/7!!
Love you.
If you ever want to "do-over" a home for free, do mine, please!

I don't think you could ever replace jenni!
It just dosen't seem like anyone gets you the way she does.
You seem more like best friends. Give the girl a raise!

Love your show!

lol! I always love your humor, especially with Ziola... she should start her own series... the whole thing with the her stealing apples...lol! I think she deserves them apples...luv ya!

Why would Jenni want to be an actress on another show? This has got to be one of the best shows on tv and nobody could write better lines than what you guys come up with. Last night I was rolling on the floor with the lines you were teaching Chloe. I could just see her at school telling the teacher her favorite drink is Chardoney and calling her a bitch. And then the shorts on your intern and you saying he was going to get beat up. Oh, and his bow tie on a chain was great too. Keep it up guys, great great show.

I think Jeff will never be happy unless there is some drama. Is he still in love with Ryan? He made the comment that he messed up with Ryan and Chloe could be his daughter. Ryan is so hot, I hope he does not leave the show!

I love your show....your personality and the way you handle your business....You inspire me with your creative, professional ideas....Outside of my full time job, I'm a interior designer-part time. Please be encouraged and keep up the good work!!!
Love Natausha

Jeff, I am worried about you. You've been angry alot lately. Do you think you should see someone? This week there were a few glimmers of the old you; making fun of Trace's (I think that's his name) shorts and bowtie necklace for instance.

Sometimes you make me laugh just looking at you, no offense, you're quite handsome.

If I were younger, better looking, and didn't live in Iowa, I could work for you.

I love your show so much and i feel so sad about relationship between you and Ryan. Ryan should apologize to you and explained all of the reasons he did. He should know that he hurt your feeling.
I am so sorry for what happen to you and your bacon sickness.

We love you and all your casts.

well we started writting the net-work and our church and the fellow churches will be too and it look you can't be man enough to post what I wrote. So Good Luck

Jeff, I love your show I'm new to the real estate investment job and watching you always gives me great ideas. Wow bring SARAH on to your staff is a very big PLUS she is gorgeous!!! With her addition along with Jenni, you now are the MAN what a great way to come to work and be around two good looking women!! Way to GO!!

I think you are great. I laugh so much at the things that go on in your life. Jenni is a saint that she actually has the patience for some of the things you come up with. Ryan has been your friend and partner for a long time. Try to keep an open mind and keep the friendship intact.

Jeff you are so funny! Love the show and I think you are a great decorator!! That house on tonight's show and others you have done are beautiful! Keep up the great work!

Jeff,
Yes I love your show ! Its fabulous..I as many viewers could watch it everyday. Of course you know what your doing and are the BEST at it. But I enjoy watching you and your staff enter act.You always make me laugh. This last show was sad as you spent time with Chole. And with whats going on with you and Ryan.
Anyway keep doing what your doing. You wil come out on top !
( hello it is the JEFF LEWIS SHOW) .. If Ryan is doing something under handed it will come out . And back (KARMA)... If not then hopefully you can work out your differences.I love everyone on the show. Jenni rocked as she took over for you.I knew she was loyal and you gave her the credit she deserved.
Please tell Zolia or Jett to start checking all food EXP-date monthly. Dont want to loose you..Bravo should run a contest and the winner gets a room (or more) designed by you. IM IN....
love ya,
take care

Listen, Sweet Cheeks!

I'm your gay brother and I don't like the condescending way you treat Vlad. Don't treat people like they are stupid even if they are; and I'm not saying he is. BTW, Vlad is kind of handsome, and since you screwed up your relationship with Ryan, you might try going for Vlad... if he would have you. You can't be that picky in finding a husband. Though you are nice looking, not many will put up with your ways. You get on their nerves.

FWIW, my dear Jeffrey, I think you are hotter and more masculine than Andy, the bravotv host.

Jeff,

I'm really upset with what Ryan has done to you (using your name to get business, hiding potential business leads, etc). I know what it's like to have a knife stuck in your back.
I'm hoping both you and Ryan will be able to work things out.

Waiting for next week's episode........

sat here on my lazy behind and watch rerun after rerun not much into reality shows but this one is the best because it shows dedication and hard work and pleasing client's, you are great Jeff and Jenny and Zoila is the true friends you can count on.

I Love you Jeff! Your sense of humor is sick but I get it. Food poisoning been there, not so fun, but you survived :)

I completely understand the stress levels of work and dealing with clients.

I watch your show and really appreciate it, the designs are amazing and I wish you continued success and remember to laugh a little when times get tough >Pearl Necklace<

Bear Hugs!

Alexander

If Jenni gets a break somewhere else, then you are going to need a new assistant, you can't expect her to be with you forever. If you find another assistant, Good Luck because I don't know if they will put up with your mean ways, like she does.

Love the show Jeff. I do wish ya'll were on year round. I never get tired of your sense of humor and snobby self. Love it!!

I got a litle teary eyed watching you drop off Chloe after your lunch date. How beautiful is she???

In that regard, I believe people are put in our lives for a reason. It's for you to decide to look for the beauty and the ugly in people and choose how they can be a healthy part of your life. Best of luck! Love the show!

I feel sick over Ryan. I wish I could believe that he didn't realize what he was doing...but he's not that obtuse. You must be so hurt, Jeff.

Jeff,
Are you absolutely sure your gay? Because I think you are the hottest man on TV. You are soooooo sexy!! Marry me Jeff Lewis

Jeff, love you, love the show!!! I'm saddened by Ryan's behavior. He did stab you in the back. He has changed and even glorifies his success over yours. He definitely stabbed you in the back. It is sad and if it was not for you, he would not have as much. I still don't know, nor do I care who he is. The show can go on w/o him. Sorry for your sadness!!!

Jeff--you are hysterical! You completely relax me with your wit and humor. I totally get you. My husband thinks I am the female version of you. So refreshing! I could totally work for you.

Ditch Ryan! It is better to keep him in your life as a friend than business.

oh say it isnt so. Im really looking forward to the next show. whats up with ryan. he does seem a bit shadedy. my hope is that its all one big misunderstanding because when jeff says that he looks at ryans little girl and think this little girl could have been mines . I think its such a loveing thing to say or think.

Jeff,
Love your show, my husband and I tune in each week, to see what you're going to design next... you're awesome at your job!! its a true gift.

Jeff, will you please tell me where I can purchase your dinning room chairs...? I've attempted to check out several online sites in LA, but didnt have any luck... I live in Chicago and would love to find these chairs for my new home.

Keep up the good work, and dont worry about Ryan, You keep being true to who you are and everything will work out.

CRJ

Please please please post the video of your lunch with Ryan's daughter- I am laughing so hard, I'm crying and I can't stop long enough to explain it to friends - it has to be seen!

PLEASE!

Luv it!

Jeff - love the show. You are incrdibly talented. I love your attention to detail, know that it drives people nuts; as I have the same and have made many a person ticked!! PLEASE watch what you say to Chloe, she is young and this may affect her. Just love her, as she may need you one day

I left a note on Ryan's blog, I am sure he will not post it. What a dink! I felt compassion for you! It was hard to hear what a lack of class Ryan had for your friendship/business past. Please keep Jenny forever - we love her as your assistant and now she is pigeon holed and we cannot see her as anything other than with you. Laurel and Hardy of the Construction World. Chloe was cute in this episode, and that is the unfortunate part of your friendship ending. If not ended now it will. Ryan's head could hardly fit in the screen. He owes you BIG for being part of the show. When you think you not replaceable you ARE! Not you though - Our whole Italian, Hetero-Sexual Family love you and your show - Laugh our A's off with ZOILA as well

Love the new assistant as well - He has a dry sense of humor

Monterey California

Jeff, I absolutely love the show. It took some time to get used to you, but I can see how your brutal honesty can be misinterpreted at times. You have a great team and although you can be quite rough at times, I congratulate you on always staying true to yourself.

Mr. Lewis, you need to hire waaay more productive contractors and carpenters. You know, someone who can actually frame to the dimensions you want, when you want! You have amazing vision and business savvy. If only I still lived in California my work might just be amazingly complimentary to your business. Vlad has got to go dude.

I love your show...and I 2nd the comment of "Your dry sense of humor is ironically refreshing" - I watch the reruns over and over again - your show is a HUGE hit - keep it up !!

Jeff, Jeff, Jeff..U R Hilarious. We r alike n so many ways. That's why I know i could deal with you and ur ways on a day 2 day basis. You don't ask 2 much but 2 show up on time and take and follow orders. I can do that, but the pay must b great. So my next question is. Do you think I can have a chance at the assistant position. I am 32 a female with male tendencies. LOL. Tough skin and hard working very dependable and flexible. I am so in need of a career change.I really hope you or Jenni or maybe even Ryan, find time to read this and reply.

Sincerely

Tipp from Atlanta

I just have to say that I have the biggest crush on you. Yup. Here I am in my early 30's and so fascinated by you. I think that if Jenny doesn't find a mate soon, she should definitely have your baby. You 2 are great together. I know you like men, but believe it or not, I think you would be a good dad. Sending you all my love, and keep those hopes up. As you said, at least you have the job, you are working and from what i can see, you are sorrounded by people that love you (Jenny & Zoila).

Jeff, We have to see you and Jonathon Anton work on a project together. You could redo his salon or house or he could to do your hair or Jenni's. Maybe take Zoila in for a rinse and set. It would be priceless! Flipping meets Blowing! Pretty please with sugar on top!

Jeff I just love how you address issue's with your workers, you say what other employers would love to say. You always make me laugh even though you are quite the princess.

I know all you have been hearing is how much Jeff is loved. I could soooooo much be on his team...Hey Jeff ever though about coming to NY? Yes I hate NY too....but I'm here and would be such a good part of your team. Give it a rip, branch out. Luv ya Jeff

What happened to Brad and Seana, the pajama party people? Last week's blog was all about how great they were and they haven't been heard from since. Another casualty?

My BUCKET LIST includes swapping jobs for just one day with Jenni and working with Jeff ... I'll bring the mints, an alarm clock, my parent's T square and lots of southern drawl and humor!! How 'bout it y'all ??!!

All I have to say is "I love Jeff". His attitude, his OCD and everything about him, I love it.

Jeff, I wiil like to send to you the two apples that Zolia took.

Love the show, could watch it all day every day. Where is Trace???? Would love to see more of him too. Thought he was a perfect fit for "Jeff Lewis' Office"-

Jeff you Rock!!! Jenni you Rock Too!!!
Keep up the great job, I love watching your show. Its tough out there these days for most and seeing how you bounced back and didnt let it get you, really inspires others to do the same!

your show should run all year round! can't get enough...

Love, love your show Jeff. But I felt sorry you got so sick.I work in healthcare for many years, just an FYI...cranberry juice... great for food poisoning. Removes the bacteria from your GI tract like paint thinner. Hope it doesn't happen to you again. Maybe you should give Zoila a raise, she did let you live this time.

Hello Jeff!!! i definetly love your show...i work as a closer for one of the largest mortgage companies in the USA from here and watching your show helps me understand better the real job that needs to be done before the property goes to the final legal process. Thanks so much for the great attitude you have.you really know how and when the job needs to be done.Congratulations!!!!!

Love your show!! I can see my self in Zoila *i'm hispanic" and I can see she adores you. I worked as a construction loan assistant and I was a hard "B" with the builders. Check those invoices and do not release funds until job is completed and make sure the sub are paid..

I truly enjoy watching your show. Hope to see more shows.
