Jeff I love you, you are the funniest, most talented.. but I think you are being harsh with Ryan. By reading Ryan's blog, its clear to me that he has not doing anything wrong behind your back. You are right you need to know when to cut a client, you also need to figure out your hourly rate. This rate should be variable-consulting,planning,accessorie shopping and even have a different rate for different projects. You are in the business to make money and please the client. Also I love the show.

Hi Jeff, I wanted to write and tell you I think you are one of the most entertaining people currently on television. I can tell underneath that hard, anal neurotic appearing exterior you really do care about people. A lot of really sensitive people are just that way! I also love your wicked sense of humor! I died when I watched the episode with Chloe and her "Girls Gone Wild" responses! I also love that you really care about your pets. It seems all your dogs are mutts and most likely rescues. You just seem to me someone who is opinionated, not afraid to speak your mind and is not interested in everyone thinking you are "Nice". Youve discovered something every custom homebuilder or remodeler must learn. People are full of crap, unless you know they are not. And we all know, there is only one way we know they are not..............if their check cashes.
As a "designer" you can do what I do. I do residential architecture & construction, so I have the ability to capture clients with a design agreement and retainer fee, before doing anything. You, as a designer, not just a builder could reasonably do the same thing. The retainer would apply to design fees only. Then the client has the ability to transition to construction or terminate the relationship.

We met on a flight from Turks and Cacaos that was extremely delayed- I knew you looked familiar but couldn’t place your face. My husband and I now DVR your show and watch it regular. Can you give any advice to people buying a very run down 1925 Mediterranean with regards to hiring a builder/designer? We both run businesses and make tough decisions all day but when it comes to personal issues we have a tendency to be indecisive. I feel like we need a designer to help plan out the space and narrow down decisions so we can make progress. Otherwise I think it will never get done. How do we go about hiring a designer that will be strong enough to guide us through the process and narrow down choices but not take advantage of our lack of knowledge in this space?

Ryan and his family, but what romance there was with you and Ryan is swept away when he committed to his new partner. I hope you and Ryan stay friends, and I hope you find a new mate of your own

Jeff, you are obviously extremely talented..and a pain in the rear :) I really love how you dote on your babies (dogs, cats, etc.). Any advice for dealing with losing a baby? I lost my lovely dog Miss Lizzie to a brain seizure suddenly one night and am still grieving nearly a year later. So is her little "brother/child" puppy Beauregard, left behind without the queen of the house.

There is an under current of love on this show. Jenni shows a lot of genuine concern for you and you do for her. Zoila knows you really care about her, too. I laughed out loud when you mimicked the zombie pose on Rachael. It is a setting where people can grow if they just don't take offence, and merciless if they do. Keep loving each other. I scroll through recorded cartoons and movies to find MY show Flipping Out. I am so happy to jump into your world for about an hour and take a break from mine!!! Jeff, I can relate to you. Although I don't say I am OCD, I probably am. I like to know what needs to be done, how it will get done and all the what ifs that could happen. then i want it done. i also have my regular duties for myself - and I don't let anyone clean but me because no one can do it the way I like it. I find that I know things are done and done right by staying on top of it and aspire to being the best at whatever I do - at least my best anyway.

I think calling that OCD is a crime. I think what you do you know you do well or you don't do it until you can.

I do see that you trusts some too much and others not enough. Those who can tell you that you are pissing them off and stay with you - those are your friends.
