Courting clients is very similiar to dating. To me, designing and remodeling one's home is a very personal thing. To do my job effectively, I have to really get to know my client. This means dinner, drinks, sleepovers, etc. Some people are very guarded, and it is hard for me to implement their personality in my work when they don't share who they are. This is why I feed them lots of alcohol. People are so open and forthright when they are tipsy. Some may be offput by this method, but I take my job very seriously and want to create a space for my clients that is personal to them. I realize my personal approach is definitely out of the norm and may not be for everyone. For now, it's working for Jeff Lewis Design. When I'm considering jobs, I don't always take the most lucrative one. I accept the job where I connect with the client and know I can meet their needs and wants. A satisfied client will refer other clients. I am building a business, and my primary objective is longevity.

Love your so called "dry" sense of humor combined with those great facial expressions! Such a refreshing change of pace. I watch "F/O" whenever I can... you crack me up!
Please protect yourself from getting overwhelmed with fame and scrutiny. With OCD, loss of "control" of your privacy as proven by other celebs could be very hurtful.
Want you to be around for a long time! Take Care!Admitted Fan & Groupie (and fellow OCD) Bonnie : )

Dear Mr. Lewis,
Or Jeff if your comfortable...I don't know if you even read any of these...but I am not only a HUGE fan of your show but also a psychotherapist for many years who also happens to enjoy your pathology as well as you humor. I highly recommend your show to both friends and clients alike. I also feel like I somehow as strange as this might sound, I can relate to much of what you say. I too am a business owner. The idea of working for someone else, and the reliance on referrals are topics I can identify with. I wish you much success and keep Bravo in business!! I love the show!!

Hi Jeff,
it disappoints me that I cannot email you or contact you personally. I am a Finisher, a Kitchen and Bath installer, who definiteley does not mix with the west coast attitude but who loves your designs and selections, and approach.I was hoping to somehow make contact and offer my skills and abiliities. Mostlty I want to offer my reinforcements of your attitude of longevity. I believe in providing quality and satisfacaction over just doing ok and making the the job just ok.I have worked for many Contractors and do no not see you as a "flipping out" type.

Jeff,
I'm glad that you now have your own site so that work won't be unfairly and ungratefully hijacked from you. As far as I'm concerned, you create works of art while certain others do great copycat work from a magazine. I am really appalled by the way you were treated. I believe that it will come back to bite him in the arse, especially considering the quality (lack of) work that he produces.
You are truly an original. I too am in the same business and I can only have wished to have a mentor such as yourself. My strength lies in getting the job done but I could only dream of creating a masterpiece such as you do.
Not that you need it, but best of luck to you and the Flipping Out team.
Oh btw I heard Ryan was going to win this year's interior design pearl necklace award. He'll probably wear it on his face which should go nicely with the egg that will end up there.
Take care,
bill

Dear Jeff
As I read the comments left by some of the other people I think that they completely fail to understand the work you have put into your business and your need for perfection, why is it so hard for them to understand its not you and your attitude that is wrong but theres
when did it become a bad thing to want to do your best and unreasonable to expect your staff to be honest hard working and people of their word and the woman that was not paying you and telling you she did not want to talk about money It seems to me that she has got it all wrong (she asked you to do the work) and must have known that the bills needed to be paid for the work that had been done or she should not have asked you to do the work in the first place
I respect you Jeff for standing up to people who do not do the right thing and expecting a higher level of professionalism than is standard in the world of today
I hope that things improve for you soon and you can get back to flipping houses and doing the thing you do best your work is exceptional and your values absolutely correct

I think Jeff is adorable. He is absoutely beautiful. I hope Jenni does not leave him as I think he does not realize how valuable she is. I was a bit upset when he cut her hours, especially since she had been recently divorced. Perhaps this is the only mistake I think Jeff has made in all the seasons. As far as Zoila, I hope Jeff realizes how precious she is to him, she is another one he should not lose. Although I think she would not leave him. I can't say I am too excited about the new replacement girl - her attire is far from appropriate for someone connected to Jeff's business. I hooe that Jeff has a personal relationship that makes him happy. None of us has the right to intrude on his personal life, but I do wish him happiness.

Hey Jeff! After moving to San Antonio from LA, I experienced the move from hell and know what it is like when everything is going wrong and you have no control over it. I can only imagine what one of your days is like and what you go through, but there is a reason why you are so good at what you do. You expect and demand excellence, perfection, consistency and accountability. I am sure if you got 2 out of the 4, that's good, but all 4 are what is needed to make a "flip" spectacular.
From a fellow OCD type here, don't change who you are because more of us are needed in this world. The details are what make up the big picture.

Just finished watching your latest show. I don't know if you ever have the time to read any of these viewer comments, but in case you do, I just wanted to applaud you for using your own money to make sure everyone got paid. That just goes to show what kind of man you are. I respect you a great deal for that. These economic times are hard on just about everyone, but especially for the self employed, small businesses and laborers. They are always the last to get paid. We own a small business and we hear a lot of "we'll pay you when we get paid". It's a terrible cycle because they can't afford to pay us for goods or services already rendered, but need to continue getting more things from us in order to keep themselves working. So not only do we not get paid quickly for what they already have, but we have to find a way to pay our suppliers so they can continue to get what they need in the future. That just shows you what type of man my husband is. He tries very hard to keep everyone in this town working, even if we can't pay ourselves. He too feels responsible for everyone else and their families. And they are his customers! If more people were like that, everyone might be a little better off. We might lose everything in the process but at least we did it with a little class!

Jeff, I'm a Creative Director. I appreciate your expectation for perfection. I expect my talent to deliver 200% always. I accept nothing less than perfection. I tolerate nothing less than perfection. The details matter. If you cannot deliver a project buttoned up than don't work for me. Your attitude is spot on and I'm sure your clients will appreciate it. However, you do not treat your employees with the regard they deserve. You do not have permission to do and say whatever you want because of a television show.
Your talent will speak for itself. The way you treat your employees will make you notable.Enjoy your fame and understand that other designers always want perfection. You are not setting yourself apart. Portraying yourself on TV in this way is not becoming. One day the TV show will end. Look toward the future. What will make you diffrent. What will set you apart. What will make Jeff different than every "reality TV personality".
Cheers,

Jeff,
My husband and I are both business owners and real estate junkies. I have 20 - 35 employees at any given time (not assoc. w our real estate)thats just us. I love your ocd nitpicking, but it really isnt, why? BC its all true, it just is something we all tolorate due to the lack of loyal backup in the wings. We overlook more than we all should and we know it, but we never want to believe "they didnt work out" mostly, total wanna be's that allow themselves to be the exact opposite of the hire that is nodding their head and saying "ofcoarse" to everything you said in the beginning. eyaaahh, I would like to say that I trust noone at this point, used to trust absolutely everyone. Jenny, WOW she is sharp, smart, cute (very important) and witty, she knows when to be your employee and when to be "partner like". give her support, she is loyal, something I am convinced you can never find. I would kill for an assistant like her, scarcasm and all. PT or FT - Keep her, she is amazing! And also you, thanks for the show, I absolutely adore you!

I love Jeff and his crew. I could see myself working for him, but I cant decide if I would be Zoila or Jenni. I love to decorate and love to cook and clean (sort of a nut that way). I think Jeff can be so funny and you have to "get" his humor. I noticed the different wine glasses and agree with work ethics. You have to be picky and try to be perfect in his line of business. I think was he does is his best all the time. I dont see anything less.
Wish I could have two days with him on the job just because I know his taste and humor. It would be fun.

Hi Jeff ,
Love your show ! Do you have any friends in NY that do what you do who may need a personal assistant? I married my college sweetheart (slob)and we produced 2 more male spawn slobs! I am a neat freak and a part time Special Education Therapist. I am used to juggling a "perfect" house, yard, and a job as well as making good tasting healthy meals for my family . I find some of your past assistants behavior appalling!!! They are also lazy slackers. I think you are awesome and are truly adapting to the economic changes with graciousness . I love Jenny , Trace, Jett and of course Zoila. Please contact me if you know of a friend who may need my services.I know you like semi- good looking people... everyone tells me that I am a cross between Susan Sarandon and Drew Barrymore ( age wise .. I am in between the 2). I am not the size 4 I was, but I am a very fit size 8. I eat mostly organic, high fiber, white meat meals. I exercise as often as possible. Love the fun stuff like swimming and snowboarding.
I have worked with "difficult " clients' children from Sag Harbor, South Hampton and Bridgehampton, NY. ( please give me kudos for that...) I actually know a bit about design because my mother was an art teacher for years,. I am also a bit of a hard ass because my dad was a Suffolk County Police Chief ( Long Island , NY) . He saw a lot...including Jackson Pollack's (crash way back in his rookie days. )
Please get back to me

Hi, Jeff.
I watched the episode where you went on and on about people being late for work. I, too, hate it when people are late. I am currently working as an independent contractor (they've yet to hire me after a year and a half) for a company in Encino. The three partners will have occasional meetings wherein they nicely tell people the hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It does no good. The receptionist strolls in every day at 9:20 a.m., makes her breakfast, takes LOTS of personal calls, takes a one-hour lunch, and leaves at 6 p.m. Then twice a week, she has a doctor's appointment before coming in to work. I have yet to see her arrive on time.
If ever you'd consider a loyal, hard-working employee that pays attention to detail (will keep your car stocked with mints and breath spray), contact me.

I'm really trying to keep my faith in the show. I loved the first two seasons but honestly, it's becoming a little difficult to agree with the way "the cook is running the kitchen." I feel like most of these people are hired because they look good. I know my bland fat a$$ can do a better job at most of those things than some of the employees that have been brought on board. In the end, it is a TV show but as somebody who breathes and sleeps real estate AND interior design, it's has it's moments when it's disappointing. I will say that Jeff and I are so much a like. I fly off at the handle at some things, I'm some sarcastic knuckle head most of the time and I love things done a certain way. I'm very particular. Anyway shot out to Zoila! As she would say "I bite you Jeffery" I'll be in LA this Thursday... maybe i'll run into them!

I have to say. The questions that you asked shawn. If it was me i would have walked out the door and sued you ass for everything you are worth. Those questions where very inappropriate, and you had no right as an employer to ask them questions. Secondly to fire him based on true here say from you ditzy office help when as the employer you should have went to chaz and asked him personally to find out the truth. You where wrong in so many ways. Its sad that they would even allow a show like this to be on tv.

Mr. Lewis,
As i watch your show episode after episode and watch your assistants and project managers come and go, I notice a common thread of them not appreciating your insistance on perfection. I would love the oppurtunity to work as your project manager and believe you need someone like me whom anticipates what is necessary and gets it done. You do not have the time to be botherd with explaining each and every detail of the days agenda and you need someone who can prioritize and be effective rather than efficent. I wish i knew how to contact you to apply for your "revolving door" position of project manager. I feel like we are cut from the same cloth and would work extremly well together. Love the show but was quite surprised when on a recent episode I heard you say you were going to "Nordstrom's". Simply, there is no "S" at the end of Nordstrom. Many people make this mistake and I have to ask from one perfectionist to another, PLEASE get it right. :-))

One day about 2 weeks ago I was flipping through the channels and you said something that caught my ears and made me watch for a bit. Well, after that 1st show I have to say that I'm hooked...I'm Flipped Out"! LOL it's a great show and I love your style. Bosses need to be the way you are or nothing will get done and people walk all over you...I know.
If you ever plan to bring the show to Hawaii for a vacation shoot or just to relax, I'd be honored to set up your hotel stay and show you and your cast around for some fun! I work in the Hotel industry and got some connections.

Damn you Jeff. I nearly split my pants laughing when you said you thought El Pollo Loco was a sit down restaurant but it's truck and then the next shot was of you sitting in a chair on the sidewalk eating with all the paranoia in world on your shoulder. I call it "Eating Cautiously." That is eating but not in a relaxed fashion but with your eyes kind of dart from side to side, just making sure and the funniest think was you as the man sat down and let Jenni squat, I mean, only from Jeff Lewis would that be acceptable.

Jeff:
Just heard you say it was nice the he extended the yoga invitation to "Jennie and I". It should be "Jennie and me".
Rule of thumb, simply take the other person out of the sentence and see how it sounds. You would not say "he extended the yoga invitation to I". If your gonna be a perfectionist be one all the way.

Jeff I really love your show, and I look forward to seeing Flipping Out, BUT I think you really need to be more nicer to Jenni, and your house lady. 3 episodes we are in and you haven't updated your blog Jeff. I also have OCDs and this bothers me to no end. Just make the time to update your blog each week about the episode that just aired. How hard is that? You were right to fire Shawn as he didn't seem like the right fit for your company. This season your attitude isn't like last season. Jeff, I am 58 years old, mother of two grown sons, grandmother of 3 girls, married for 38 years...you don't fool me....you may be a tough man on the outside, demanding and a perfectionist, but on the inside, you are a "little boy, mischievous, lovable, kind, and funny"....I adore you and your wonderful "family"..I so look forward to each week to get a glimpse of what you, Zoila, Jenni, Ryan are up to now....if I could afford your services, I'd hire you to help design and decorate my new house..it would be a blessing to get to know you and the rest...you guys are so real, genuine and lovely! My prayers and love to all....

Interior Designer,
There is NO law about asking if a potential employee has ever been arrested or convicted of a crime.
In fact, virtually every company includes that question on employee applications including gov't, law enforcement jobs etc.

My wife and I love your work, your dry humor. My wife is an amputee and watches a lot programs. she tells me all the time, that Flipping Out with Jeff is her favorite TV show. We live in Virginia. Our son Todd is in his thirties, recently laid off as a manager of a restaurant in LA. He's tall, dark, smart, and handsome. He has been working out there for four years. He would make an excellent project manager for Jeff. He would be a good fit at Jeff's business. People refer to him as the cat and dog whisperer, because of his love of animals. His name is Todd and is working at The Cheese factory to make ends meet. Again we love Jeff.

Now we know why your employees use the outdoors as a bathroom ... you won't let them use your toilets. Are you nuts and is this legal.

Hi Jeff,
For a show that isn't scripted, you sure have a lot of drama. The way you troubleshoot problems is always interesting to watch, and at the end of the day you're really putting your clients needs above all else, which sometimes makes us do wacky things.
I'm in the midst of upgrading furniture and light fixtures and I LOVE your dining room fixture. Can you tell me where I can find it or is it custom made?
Keep Selling!!

- Twin Assistants
Dear Jeff,
We would like to introduce ourselves; twin sisters from Missouri and your first set of sibling assistants. The two of us religously watch your show and have decided that we are perfect for the job. Neither of us see a psychiatrist or have a criminal record. We would love to see California and get the hell out of tornado alley. As coffee adicts we know Starbucks is around every corner and can ensure your drinks will always be 140 degrees (unless ordered iced).
We both have college degress. Combined we have worked for a highly demanding boss, wiped ass, saved the world, saved lives, played the flute, and have spent coutless hours arguing over furniture (just like you do with your clients). With one OCD, dog loving, RN twin and one very talented assistant with a chemistry degree, we know we are the perfect fit for your multifarious family!
Looking forward to hearing from you...Seriously.

Jeff. It was obvious that Shawn was hitting on your client and that your client was interested in him. Did you really not see that or were you just too classy to bring it up?

I dig your type-a personality, Jeff, but I think you need to remember that most of us working for someone, would get ourselves canned if we took out clients and got them drunk. It's probably good that you work for yourself. Picturing you working for someone else - ha ha. Oh and I don't get what you mean by sleepovers? Maybe I have to watch more episodes of the show? Also, I read today that it's illegal to ask someone about their criminal record during an interview. Well, I'm uptight too so I'm enjoying watching how you work hard to "behave" yourself. It's funny to see how you sometimes look as if you're crawling out of your skin! I can relate! It's called acting, baby! Perhaps a glass of wine during lunch would be good for you?

Hi Jeff,
I LOVE, LOVE your show.... you can be so hilarious sometimes and so demanding and so picky about the way you want things done that I find it so entertaining to watch you. I like Jenni too because it must be a challenge working for you and she does a good job. I love your house and I envy your lifestyle...I live in Chicago so the winters here are brutal but California is so beautiful year-round so I envy that. You are very talented and good at what you do so keep up the good work and please come back next year!... Love ya!..xoxoxox

Oh Jeff....I LOVE you!!! I think you're great! You and Zoila crack me up...what a pair! Just wanted to say that I agree with your policy on being prompt, it is rude to be late. Also, I could be of great assistance to you in helping put together an emergency kit for your car in case of another spill (like the coffee). Contact me if your interested in any kind of assistance.

Jeff,
First off, I wanted to say love the show, and it's concept...but man lay off your employess! You wonder why you keep looking for good help? You run the best people away! I know you have issues about trust but would it hurt to let people be close to you but at the same time be their own person? i understand your the boss but my god man your not their father...Your a good person as much as i can see but something happened way back where your trust lines were cut and you refuse to tie them back...life is to short... live life like you have no tomorrow, love freely and love will freely love you...take care and open your heart not just your mind

I absolutely love your show! Your person is fantastic!!
I would love to work for you 1 day a week - is that possible?
I am a stay-at-home mother and committed to my boys, but 1 day a week would COMPLETE ME!!
Ex-Assistant 10+ years. I've worked for some strong personalities, so I can handle you. A little real estate experience. Live in San Diego, but would be on time and do the work.
I know you're particular about looks - shallow like that - so I can send you a pic if you're interested.

Jeff,
You rock! Flipping Out is my favorite show. I look forward to it every week. You are hysterical. And I agree with you, I think Ryan is totally screwing you out of money/jobs. I think you may still have feelings for him, but he's not being a true friend or business partner. I am team Jeff all the way!

Wish I could follow you all around 24/7 because I enjoy you so much. Thanks for letting us peek into your lives. Question though... What's with all of the plastic water bottles and lunches laden with so much packaging and waste?

I don't know why I love you; you are anal, overbearing, sometimes rude, and extremely strict! In spite of all of this, I completely love your show!
You are hilarious, smart, insightful, and you can read people so well. I am a loyal fan. Keep it up Jeff!
