Flipping Forgiveness

Jeff apologizes for being hard on Jenni and explains that there was a lot we didn't see.

Sep 13, 2010

I regret screaming at Jenni. It was an extremely frustrating day, and although Jenni meant well, she actually caused a lot of damage when she decided to side with Christy (our client) against me. My goal in that lunch meeting was to convince Christy that sending the front door back to Arte de Mexico was not the wise choice. Although we bought the door pre-hung, the hinges were undersized and the door did not close or lock correctly. I exchanged numerous phone calls with Arte de Mexico to try to resolve the issues. Unfortunately, they did not accept responsibility and proceeded to tell me they did not normally sell door frames or do installation. That's funny, because they had no problem accepting Christy's money when we asked them to fabricate a door frame and hang the door. It was after Christy's check cleared, and we started to have problems with the door, that they changed their position. It didn't make sense to me to then ask Arte de Mexico to rehang the door when they had admittedly no experience in door installation. I wish they had been honest from the beginning, and I could have hired another company to not only fabricate the door frame but hang the door properly. I think that David from Arte de Mexico was afraid to tell me the truth about his limited door hanging experience in fear of losing the sale and my smile. I admit that there are very few $6,000 sales these days, but the reality is Christy and I loved that door and would have purchased it regardless.

I bet you are less sorry now.  Shame on her.  I can not imagine having such a giving, funny, hard working boss and being that disloyal, between the honeymoon and the book, it shows she can not be trusted.  Sorry.  I know how disappointing it is having people stab you in the back when you thought they were everything to you.  It has happened to me.

Are we watching the same show?

Where can I find traditional carriage door hinges -- ones that work -- for a pair of out-swinging garage doors in Burbank?

Jeff, I own a furniture store and run a design studio as well....I have had a few weeks lately exactly like the one you had on tonight's episode......Great to see how you handle it...I couldn't repress the hope that some of my clients were watching the show.....I am a huge fan, it is the only hour of television that I actually put my work aside to watch!

love jeff lewis...however, learn to control ur temper and the mean things you say...no reason a soon to be middle aged man should be soooo mean...grow up

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE invest in a GPS already!

Thanks for posting so quickly!!!

I have been noticing this season that Jenni is becoming more confident and doesn't back down with Jeff as much. Hooray for Jenni! I would have to box his jaws if he said some of those things to me.

I may not sleep tonight....I want that washer and dryer installed as per yur original design. What is up with people. Maybe the lady in the scene washers/drys the towels, etc...but who made her a space planner!

I have never written anything in regards to something I saw on TV but I feel your pain. I do consulting in Lexington and the day you had I have lived often. Seems it's worse since the ecomony tanked. We are all working twice as hard for half the pay!

If I'm ever on the west coast I want an interview...30 years experience with your same work ethic....and a little ocd, too! : )

Cheers! Julie

JEFF, I hate clients so much some times and you're amazing at handling them! MEMEME, they need so much and they're so unreasonable- and yet you still accept responsibility. You're amazing Jeff Lewis and I feel your pain and work on!

Jeff stop using Jennie as your punching bag she is such a nice girl ! You really need anger management skills fast. I hope Jennie find's a great guy who will wisk her away .

I LOVE YOU and I could definitely work with you. You are a perfectionist and may have a little OCD. So do I! I had a supervisor that everyone said I would hate to work with because he is so demanding. His favorite saying was, "this is not Burger King, you don't get it your way, you do it MY way." We worked well together and had no problem. I was always 15-20 steps ahead of him. We had a great working relationship. I loved the episode when you were with baby Mason. You were so cute, but Monkey could NOT be on the table!!!!!!!!!

jeff-no excuse for such actions against Jenni. if Jenni is working only one or two days aweek that is a shame, unless she has found personal happiness or other jobs are coming her way. lots of fans watch this show because of you and jenni. also if jenni not privy to everyday office crap, take Trace or the blonde. or better yet, dont ask Jenni to do your dirty work, like getting rid of Barb because you dont have the guts or stress level to handle it. Yep, give things you dont want to do to Jenni, then yell at her for having an opinion. take time to fill her in on the screw ups before you take her on job. Jeff, this fan not happy this week.

Hi, Jeff: I completely understand your frustrations. You are a perfectionist and when other people don't perform as they should and do the job right it upsets you. I am 100% the same way. I have had a lot of experience selling and remodeling homes and my husband said I didn't just design them, I "gestated" them. People don't understand how a design project can be your "baby" and how you watch over every step of its development intensely. The worst thing is when your "vision" is ruined by other people's sloppy execution. I know how it feels when workmen don't listen to your instructions and when you feel you have to step in and do their job for them. And you're right, you start off trying to be "nice" but in the end "you have to be a dick". Anytime you want a replacement for Jenni, I'd love to come out and talk with you. When I watch you work I feel as though I am watching myself. Others may accuse you of being "picky" and "bitchy" but unless/until they have walked in your shoes they simply cannot understand what it is you are going through and how wrapped up you can be in seeing the project completed JUST as you imagined it would be and know it could be if everything went smoothly and other people treated each home as if it were their own.

By the way, Jeff, I visited Arte de Mexico's website and I see that they do not offer "installation". It's an odd thing that a vendor would offer a door, particularly an expensive, custom, wood and iron door, without also offering at least the proper means of attaching it to the rough opening, if not the installation. I think it is unfortunate that in this instance they acted as if they could pull it off. And I agree that Jenni should not have jumped in with her "two cents" without background knowledge of the situation at hand and without her opinion being invited. But, as you are sensitive enough to appreciate, she obviously wants to be an even more vital part of the process, as she demonstrated at Cole when the decision was being made on how to adjust the brick on the fireplace. Perhaps you could consider ways in which you could delegate more authority to her -- for example, maybe she could have taken over the negotiations with Arte de Mexico for you. She can be very diplomatic.

Remember what our mother's told us..... You get more bee's with honey!

Be nicer to Jenni and Zola! The three of you seem more stressed out this season and not as happy, nor funny? Ya gotta get your grove back!

Jeff, Love the show, also feel for you with some of the customers you have. I think your so use to having a whole house to do and they come to you for your ideas and let you roll with them, this season your dealing with just rooms etc.... so Im sure its hard for you, Ive been in sales all my life and know people can be a PITA on something so little it drives you crazy. Just remember Zoila loves you and she is an older women and us women can be very emotional, my opinion when she starts crying dont keep nagging at her just let it go, that always works out best for us older girls. You make me laugh so thats a good thing, isnt that what TV is suppose to be about??? Thanks for the chuckles

Oh Jeff... I about fell over when you pulled up to that house on Tahoe Drive. I had a very unfortunate experience there back in high school. Am wondering if you actually go through with the job cause it's gonna be hard to watch and I never miss a show. Love you but wish you would lighten up on Jenni. She is a bit chatty sometimes, isn't she? lol Worked with Arte de Mexico back when I worked for a designer in the 80's. They are interesting. My parents have bought thousands of dollars of stuff from them. Funny they are still around.

Jeff, I'm really enjoying this season and all the different projects and feel like I'm not only entertained but learning as well. We all know that you and Jenni will kiss and make up. After 8 years she gets you. Go easy on Zoila or you will have all of us FIIPPING OUT!!!! We love our ZOILA!!!!!!!!!

JEFF!! Forget the situation with Jenni...How could you leave such an important project like Casa Vegas lobby to Kash! He's a tool who forgets his tools. If this is your entry level project to judge whether you should take on the whole remodel or not...epic fail! I know you didn't promise completion by cinco de mayo but their attendance, damage to the door and general laissez faire attitude was driving me nutz!! Get a professional in there. Kash is not it!

I understand your frustration with Jenni's comment. She should have known better than to make a statement about a sticky situation in front of the customer. She should have understood how her uninformed statement made more work for you, and she should have apologized.

In your arguments, refrain from demeaning the person. Stick with lambasting the person's actions; not the person.

Love you much

Jeff, YOU ARE THE BOSS. You do not need to apologize for anything. You need to remember these Jenni, Jett, Ziola and especially Sarah work for you. You run a business, if they don't cut it, get rid of them.

Jeff, the reason Arte de Mexico does not install doors is because they are do not have a contractor's license so when they did install that door at Casa Vegas they did so illegally. I am a California state licensed contractor and I can not believe the lam brains you hire as contractors. I hope you are checking their license statis before you do business with them. I assume you are hiring them because they are cheap.............you get what you pay for.

I always say when I hit the lottery, I am going to hire you to do my new home. If you want it done right - no one would do it better than you. You want everything perfect. I was never happy when you were with "the other one", but now much better. Things seemed to be always never right. You are much better on your own. It always seemed to be Jeff Lewis anyway. I have been a fan since day 1, and will never not watch. You give us all ideas and truly make us laugh, and sometimes cry too. Love it and you. Great show.

Every week is a new excuse. Face it, you are rude at times and it is enough! How do you think Brab and other clients feel when they watch the show and hear you talk about them? You act like you did not promise Christy with Casa vega anything but nor do you ever say the repairs cannot be done before Cinco de Mayo. and of course there are things not shown on camera, but if that were said to her, why would the conversation continuallyc ome up and you not address it? Face it, you ar ein demand because you have exposure. It is not a bad problem to have. But YOU need to relaize the clients you take on are at YOUR discretion so if you are overbooked, you have nobody else to blame. So sick of tuning in and you moaning about your workload when you are the boss. i feel for all your employees. Particularly Zoila and Jenny --- they seem to get the brunt of your anger. Think you are a very talented and love all you have shown in terms of your work, but your attitude needs improving.

I am liking you less and less Jeff Lewis. Wake up and treat others like you would like to be treated.

Love you, love your show!!!

I have had 2 beautiful doors designed and manufactured by Arte D' Mexico. My contractual release stated they DO NOT do installation. It is noted on their website, as well. They did not hang that door at Casa Vega. Jeff probably hired a cheap subcontractor to do it . He knows he screwed up and needed to place the blame on someone else, as usual. I hope Arte will place a sign in their window saying, "We have the right to refuse service to anyone"

I was glad to see you eat a whole bowl of chips instead of a drinking a martini when yop got stressed!! I think you could afford to gain a few pounds than get a new liver!!! LOL I joke!!!

Hi Jeff,

Love the show!! Can you tell me where to get a water print exactly like the one hanging in your office? I must have one for my newly remodeled master suite!

Regards

Jeff, this might seem a little strange, but if you ever need a competent, reliable contractor, my husband is the one. He is working in Louisville, Ky staying busy, but I've always wanted to move and see him get what he deserves. he has subbed for the same man since 1991, never complained about a job or had any complaints about his work, but I feel that he isn't compensated fairly. I know he would love a new challenge.

About Monkey....I just watched the episode with Monkey using the tub instead of the litter box. When my cat did this, I took him to the vet and found out he had IBD. Cats don't do that kind of thing to act out, they do it because they associate the litter box with pain. Please take Monkey to the vet, thanks!

Seriously, there is no reason to act the way he did. He is completely rude and inappropriate. No matter what the situation, there is no reason to treat people the way he does.

I believe that everybody changes depending on their knowledge, experience, and personality; therefore, Jeff Lewis can change for better reasons. He has very high expectations of himself; therefore, he treats everybody with that standard. I know that I do for myself as for others around me.

I am enjoying every minute of this season! I am happy to see before and after pictures have been posted to the bravo site to show us the amazing end result of the neverending project. I really do hope next season you will be redoing the inside of casa vega!!! (Although I am not sure your nerves and/or your staff could withstand another casa vega project!) I can honestly say I see your point of view and nearly agree with you almost every time. However, sometimes we are harshest with those we feel closest to and that is what I think you do with Jenni and Zoila! I am a HUGE supporter of you to adopt a child but please figure out a way to control your behavior when someone dissapoints you. As a mother of an adorable one year old there will be plenty of moments when your life is out of control (especially the first three weeks!!) when you are a parent. Much love to you!!

I love you! You are the funniest guy ever! To bad you are gay cause honey if anyone can make you flip to the other team it is me. You are me..........only you're a man. the two of us together would hysterical...or very dangerous! Love you keep this show going!

Jeff, You are VERY LUCKY to have Jenni even two days a week. She has excellent people skills and her interpersonal skills with clients have saved your butt many a time. If she screws up occasionally, so be it. She doesn't need or deserve you going postal on her.

I just watched the "Zoila takes New York" episode (I don't know what Bravo is calling it - that's my name for it) and loved, loved, loved your vulnerability in this episode. I thought my favorite scenes were Zoila giving as good, no BETTER, than she gets, but those have moved to second place. My favorites are the warm, loving scenes between you two. I'm not sure if you're evolving into this man, or if he's been there all along and the SOB we typically see pushes him back down. Of course, I say SOB in the most loving sense.

I guess your first clue was when they hung the door upside down and no one noticed during production....woops.... Jeff...I love you...if only I wasn't married and if only you weren't gay... we would get along sooo well.

You continually crack me up with your sarcastic and blunt views/comments. On the way to the Casa Vega mtg did you discussed the door w/Jenni and how you wanted to handle the problem? You knew the client was not happy and had to know the door was an issue as being a major investment. If not, then you need to chill on Jenni's speaking up. You want leadership & collaboration from Jenni, you can't complain when she shows it.

The contractors seem undriven and lazy so many times. I would recommend trying some union workers - you get what you pay for.

Keep up the great work & show.

Maybe you and Jenni should go to therapy together so you can communicate more effectively. I don't approve of name calling but she would drive me crazy with her inability to really get and accept responsibility for her errors. I think she's a bit wounded from her past personal problems so she doesn't seem very open to criticism, even if it's constructive.

Jeff, we all have mood swings and character flaws, and you definitely aren't the first one to take frustration out those around you. When you're employees write your checks they can tell what to do and how to do in, until then, do what you have to do. They are lucky to have you as a boss.

They did not install the door, fabricate the door frame or sell the door prehung They manufactured and delivered the door to Casa Vega. That is it! Why don't you go to Arte De Mexico and find out the truth instead forming your opinion from a bogus TV reality show! I did!

jeff i love you! i would just love to have lunch with you! i would give 2 wks paycheck to do it!! i am a 52 y/o black woman with 3 kids and 11 grandkids (from 2 daughters LOL). not that it mean anything, just letting you know that you are loved by all!!! your lunch is the most fun part to watch. and you really like lunch!

I am a new viewer to this show, but have to wonder if taking on too many projects makes your ability to satisfy everyone reasonably well...and in line with what you had built your business on...I don't know what direction this show has taken since the beginning or how your business evolved...but one thing I notice is the switch and bait that seems to go on...taking on a client and then giving them to someone else...this would really not go over big with me as a client..and wonder if it is wise to show your business doing this on tv...will it give you a different kind of reputation? Apparently people want to do business with you for your attention to their details...I guess the show could be part reason...everyone wants to be on camera these days...not me though, I heard it makes you look ten pounds heavier....oh one more thing...I have to tell you when I bought my house new a few years ago, the contractor was in here for over 2 yrs on and off doing warranty work....very unsettling feeling...a bit like having to hug strangers...so I can imagine what your clients are dealing with when they have renovations...I hate having strange people in my living space...

Oh Jeff I am worried! 2 days for Jenni, WHY? I watch this show for you and her. Don't break up! PLEASE! I will pay for therapy!

Love you too Zoila!

Come to NY again!

Hi Jeff

Glad to see you got the NY job. Looking forwrd to seeing the progress.
