Season 4
Season 3
Season 2
This was an extremely exciting and monumental episode for me for two reasons. Tommy and Shaw. When Jeff came home from meeting him for the first time and told me about it, I absolutely couldn't believe it. Being a lifelong musician and songwriter, I am a gigantic Tommy Shaw fan. From his days with Styx, where he sang such songs as Renegade and Blue Collar Man, on through his time with the Damn Yankees (alongside Ted Nugent with whom I got to tour as the opening act for in 2006), up to his current recordings with Jack Blades (of Night Ranger fame). As a young man I learned how to harmonize by singing along to High Enough by Damn Yankees and often cover Blind Faith's Can't Find My Way Home at my gigs because of him. Coming of Age? Such a sick song. I also think the Shaw-Blades version of Summer Breeze is perfect. He plays Gibson Explorers and Taylor acoustics. Hmm, what else... Yeah I'm a fan.
When I saw Tommy Shaw on this episode I jumped up and said to my husband, "That's Tommy Shaw!" I mean, Styx wasn't just big, they were HUGE, and I had the good fortune to see them live twice, once in the late 70s and once again without the lead singer in the late 90s. They were amazing live. Songs I loved from Styx were "Lady," Tommy's "Crystal Ball," "Come Sail Away," "Blue Collar Man" ... the list goes on and on. When Tommy joined the band, he took the songwriting and rock rifts to a whole new level. I love seeing the "normal" side of a rock star--it demystifies them in a good way. I'm glad that at least you knew what a big deal he was, Jett, and that you appreciate the contribution and talent of this client. So funny that Jeff was so clueless, but that might be why Jeanne likes Jeff so well, none of that pandering to the big rock star. (well, in this case little rock star, Tommy is surprisingly short)
Love, love, love it! I saw a glimpse of Tommy and instantly KNEW it was him! Love him!
I was so proud that I recognized Tommy right away even with the goatee. My wife and I immediately started singing "Too Much Time on My Hands" from Paradise Theatre. T-T-T-Ticking away, ticking away from me....BTW, how hot is his wife?
Jett, you rock!! That is so funny!! I can't believe Jeff didn't know who Tommy Shaw or Styx was. He's like 41 years old, they were well known in the 80's. Jeff must not be into rock at all other wise he would know that Tommy is one of the most established rockers. Back in the early 80's I went to so many Styx concerts, and love Damn Yankees too. That is so cool you opened for Ted Nugent. Good luck with your music! In the meantime, Jeff should send you over to Jeanne & Tommy's house. :)
Thanks for keeping Flipping Out on a lighthearted note when things get too intense. You always keep your cool, kudos Jett!
Hey Jett, When I was watching the episode, I recognized Tommy immedately anand thought what the hell...doesn't Jeff know?!! Guess not. Big fan.
LOVE YOU JETT!YOUR BABY IS ADORBBBBBBBS! YOU ALWAYS KEEP A COOL HEAD OVER THERE TOO! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! LOOKIN FORWARD TO SEEING MORE OF YOU THIS SEASON!
I don't blame you...Tommy is the BEST. Jeanne is a sweetheart too.
