Jay was open about his former alcohol addiction, and our goal was to get Barbara to forgive Jay for the past. She also needed to address her avoidance issues. Things in their life had become majorly overwhelming, and they both were checked out.
Jay was beyond thrilled to see the kitty tower go. He let out a squeal of joy!
Once Jay communicated how important it was for Barbara to make him and the kids a priority, she came around and agreed to find a better home for three of the cats. I was very proud of Barbara, as these animals were also her children, but she recognized that they could have a better life and this was the mature and best decision for everyone.
I can't believe you guys went off on how dirty the house is. Hello 3 kids, 7 cats and the house was pretty darn clean. I get that you work for Mr. clean freak OCD but come one, real people don't have their houses as clean as hers. And calling the humane society on her because she doesn't live the way you think she needs to, a below the belt hit. I'd have tossed you out on your ears.
Barbara is a mess that's why her home is a mess. If she ever got a divorce she would end up on the Hoarders show...the crazy cat lady. To chose cats over your own child, your flesh and blood, is absolutely insane.
Jeff should have made Barbara clean up her own mess in "master bedroom". Absolutely disgusting.
I am shocked that people are defending this woman! Those cats were making her kids sick!! The last time I checked I thought that the health of your kids is more important than your WANTS as a mother and father. Those cats are not a necessity but a clean home for her kids to live and play in is. For her house to look and smell like that and then blame it on her having 3 kids is UNREAL! my mom had 3 kids and our house NEVER looked like that EVER. All the hats I own are tipped to Jeff and his team for going in there and cleaning that house up.
shaylove12 You clearly don't know what life is like with kids. The house was pretty darn immaculate. You don't have better homes and gardens with kids. It's also a show that over dramatizes stuff, do you honestly think a woman who kept her home that clean with 3 kids, and 7 cats really has a house that smells.
Jenni I felt so bad for you when you were cleaning up the bedroom with the cats. I am a lover of animals but how does that women breath in all that bacteria and expect to have a healthy home? Why are those cats having their litter box in the bedroom? OMG how awful to breath that in night after night. I will admit I am a dog lover - as my biggest issue with cats is after they use the litter box, they are scratching the product etc. and walking around inside the dirty filled box.
Then the cat is allowed to walk (as cats do) on the kitchen counters, tables where the family eats. Germs spreading all over (feces from the cat box). I felt so sorry to watch you getting sick doing your job. That was the worst for you and Jeff. But you both did it. I have new respect for you. Also, both of you were just fantastic with the crying baby.
Love your show - thank you for the great entertainment.
I Love all my Cats just Like Barbara. There is no way I would give up my Cats. I know Jeff loves animals too, so I don't know why they made her get rid of 3 Cats if they were going to live in the new Cat garage anyway! It broke my heart to watch this episode. I love Jeff and Jenni, but I think that was just plain mean. I hope to see more 'animal friendly' episodes. I'm still a big fan of the show.
flwrgirl91 I think you are insane and delusional. You mean to tell me that if you had children and they were getting sick because of the allergies they have to your cats you would keep them??? The bottom line is your kids come first and those cats are a want not a need. What Jeff did was not mean it was necessary and i can promise you that poor little kid who had flee bites on his face and was struggling to breath with all those cats in that house is grateful.
This episode was very difficult indeed but I have a similar situation. My aunt is really ill with several health problems. She has 2 cats & is always taking in strays. The cats deficate & urinate all over the house. She's been told by her propery manager if they have to replace the carpet again, she's getting evicted. Her sister tries to go at least twice a month to clean the house. I won't let my 3 yr old go over there at all. We have offered to find homes and/or take the cats to a no kill shelter. She won't have it. Her physicans even recommend that she gets rid of them for her health. She refuses. It's great that she has a passion for animals, but the risk is too much. Some people do value animals over human life.
Are you kidding! I love my dog but would never place a dog above a child. Why didn't anyone call child protective services....that was an episode of child negligence!
Wow, having watched the show and reading Jenni's blog and reading through the comments I am really disturbed by how many people try to justify what this women was doing. I LOVE my animals and would have a 100 more if I could afford it and had a home to adequately maintain that many pets; but my reality is that I can not do that and be fair to my husband, my home or the pets.
The cats weren't really the problem in this house/episode. You have a recovering alcoholic husband who feels guilty so takes the blame for everything wrong in their marriage because he thinks somehow he deserves whatever that nutty wife does to make him pay for their problems. Then you have a passive-aggressive wife who delights in torturing her husband for the years of alcoholism by using her cats as her weapon and then "not dealing" when confronted. Then you have the kids caught in the crossfire and LITERALLY suffering the consequences. The wife even admitted that one of the cats was feral, so lets face it, that was not a 'pet' she was being asked to get rid of; none of the cats looked or behaved like pets. I have had a feral cat before, and it would have sooner scratched my eyes out then be touched and that is the kind of animal she wanted to save over the health of her children? If she really had the hookup in the animal rescue world she could have placed several of those cats herself and should have made more of an effort to do so when she realized her children were physically suffering.
Very sad show about a very sad home; kudos to Jeff, Jenni and team to try to fix it.
I thought the "solution" for the cats was horrible. A cage like area for them. Ugh, I thought Jeff was an animal lover. Really, I thought every solution was a poor one; and everyone looked fake happy.
What drives me nuts, she calls her self a cat rescuer, especially when she won't rescue her own family. Just because you take in abandon animals does not make you anything but a hoarder when you can't even keep the cat litter box clean or anything else for that matter. I found her to be a very selfish, self serving whining nut. At the end of the show when she thought it was cute that her highly allergic son with flea bites all over him pick up the cat litter scoop was sicking. She needs an intervention, she is not a sweet giving person like her husband said, she is a mess and does not deserve any of those cats and her family deserves better.
This woman put her cats before her children. Plain and simple. Those children are allergic! Heartbreaking.
I went crazy. Having a daughter with severe cat allergies this episode drove me insane. How in a million years as a parent can you calmly give your child a nebulizer treatment so nonchalantly knowing your the cause of those.? Insane insane insane.
This episode was upsetting to say the least and I feel that the grave problems that this troubled couple and their woebegone children were not really addressed in any substantial way. This is saying nothing against Jeff and Jenni and the efforts they made. They are not in any way equipped to give the help this poor family truly needs. In my opinion the authorities should have been called to address this situation which in truth is nothing less than child abuse. When people were referring to Barbara has having such a big heart I could only think "Are you f....ing kidding me?" The woman Is a manipulative tyrant calling all the shots. She is not worthy or willing to take on the responsibilities of raising her own offspring and they should be taken out of her "care". Of course "care" is the wrong word here. Jay is almost worse. He's allowed his precious children to be sickened and live in filth. He also should be denied the great privilege of parenting until he can man up and make the changes that are so desperately needed. The endless posts defending this sick woman and her supposed good works is a very sad commentary on our society. Any one who can defend this couple and the situation that they together created and tolerated are themselves exposed as being around the bend.
That woman needed serious help! The fact that she put her animal before her family (especially her ill son) was completely disgusting. It may have even come close to child endangerment/abuse. I am shocked that a mother would ignore the health and welfare of her children to "save" an animal.
My favorite part was Jenni throwing up in the cat litter boxes. lol Sorry but this woman was a train wreck. There is something very wrong there. The baby can feel it too which is why he cries so much. God bless those kids.
Love Rzanna's post! Because Jeff is an animal lover, I expected him to handle this situation from that perspective. I have always had 4-6 cats and 2-3 dogs, and my home is cleaner than most people with no pets. The pets are not the issue. It's the fact that Barbara does not clean or know how to clean. She seemed incredibly lazy and depressed. I spend 15 hours a week cleaning just so people cannot tell I have cats when they enter my home. Jeff would have been better to teach her how to clean because I'm sure if you go back there, even with only 4 cats, her house is still going to be disgusting. She needs a vacuum (not a broom), a serious steamer, alcohol wipes, and leather furniture so hair does not stick. She also needs to dump the litter and start over every few days and clean the stains as they happen. This situation makes it look as though the pets are completely to blame, but in reality it's just that Barbara is an absolutely horrible housekeeper. Seven cats is a manageable number, but you have to be driven to clean constantly.
petmomto6 I'm commenting, which I rarely do, because I found Jeff's reactions over the top. I've known a few moms with three kids and NO pets to have dirty, chaotic households. I'll bet Jeff is around very few multikid medium-income households to see what the reality is. Barbara could manage lots of cats and kids -- with paid help. And pet allergies are manageable with fresh air/cleanliness.
McNice petmomto6 I am someone who can not breathe at all around cat dander and cat litter. To assume a cleaner house would make it okay for her kids, I think could be a mistake. If Wyland's allergy is that severe, the cats have to go. Dander will still be there and and on clothes and float onto bedding. It is a horrific feeling not being able to breathe and imagine it being constant. And not being old enough to communicate your misery yet.
petmomto6 Let me add that I have one kid, two dogs and one cat and am a pretty rotten housekeeper! We had extensive tests to figure out why my son always had a runny nose. It was dust, pollen and ragweed, not the pets.
There is no excuse for choosing cats over your children. She literally blamed the mess on the children, not the cats. Like the cats don't pee or poop, scratch furniture and shed a million pounds of hair a second. I have one , just one, cat and cleaning up after him is a constant chore and huge pain in the ass, I love him to death but I also have a son with chronic health problems, if the cat attributed to those health problems I would have to find my cat a new home without hesitation.
Love this SHOW! Great job Jeff, Jenni, Andrew an Zoila plus staff! You all crack me up. I would have been gagging lke Jenni from that nasty stench. You did a great job - I would have forced that crack pot to get rid of ALL the cats as she clearly can not take care of them properly! Seriously a delusional woman and she should have been reported to child health services. You have alot of patiece, God Bless.
Oh wow! This was sort of gross/sad to watch...I didn't realize ALL THREE kids were allergic until I read Jenni's post. I firmly believe you shouldn't have more kids or animals than you can humanely take care of in a proper manner, EVERYTHING in that house will suffer if Barbara doesn't get herself healthy......she's not really rescuing if she's Hoarding cats & other $hi! Way too big of a job for a homebuiler & Zoila!
It's not that she had 7 cats, it's that she had 7 animals defecating everywhere and leaving pet dander around that caused her human child to suffer needlessly. You can have 7 cats, but you better damn well clean up after them. If not, then it's not really a "rescue" is it?
I found the mother in the cats episode to be extremely irresponsible and negligent in her responsibilities as a parent. Kept waiting for someone to mention calling Child Protective Services for neglect. Knowing how horrible allergies are, I can't even imagine someone's willingness to put their own child through such a dangerous and precarious health situation. I love animals, but really feel that you have to choose the health of family over pets. The mother really seems to have some emotional problems. Best of luck to the couple....it sure looks like they need to work on their communications skills and to forgive one another for past mistakes. I also couldn't believe when one of the daughters spit her mouthful of lemonade on Jeff. Oh, my gosh, that made me livid!!
klwhite212 Thank you! The spitting on Jeff was so incredibly unacceptable, I couldn't believe it!
I was so upset watching this episode! In all seriousness, you guys would have been obliged to call CPS if Barbara Perrin refused to get those cats away from Wyland. I don't know how this woman can show her face in public knowing she told the world that her crap-ridden, smelly, filthy cat brood was more important than her baby's ability to BREATHE! Barbara, you are a DISGRACE and you clearly need more therapy and treatment than Jeff & Jenni and their crew could ever offer you. You are a sick woman!
After many trips to the hospital for asthma attacks, I finally found out that my son was allergic to his babysitters cats. He and I loved his babysitter but knew we had no choice but to find a new one. I would not allow my sons health to be jepordized. I was totally sickened by this lady's disregard for her children. I would think that someone from CPS would show up and get the kids or the cats out of that house. I wonder how hard the choice would be for her then.
II remember last year when Jeff's cat died. He was asked the question, "if you had to choose between your career and your pets, which would you choose?" He unequivocally chose his pets. Now, we have a woman who loves her seven cats. She has three children whom she also loves and is being asked to choose between them. Oddly, she was coerced into giving up three of her beloved pets, but keeping four of them. Why not keep the other three and get a very good housekeeper to help her out. Keeping that house was a tall order, but her selfish husband did not see fit to provide her with help. He was "so over the cats" but she wasn't. I thought the solution provided for four of the cats was excellent because the little boy who was allergic was kept separate from them. I just don't understand why a solution could not be provided for all of the cats. She went through her husband's alcoholism and was still with him. I found him to be the problem not the cats. (I have four cats and am careful to keep the areas that they use very clean. Too bad she did get help to control the dander in the house). I don't think this woman will be happy without her cats. I hope her son is doing well, however, and I understand how she was being tugged in two directions. I think less of Jeff and will not be watching his show. He kept wrinkling his nose for the camera. He had two cats both of whom I am sure produced urine and feces, and he did smell them both while they were in the house. I also remember them being on the counters in the kitchen and drinking out of the faucets, which I found no fault with. But he found fault with the woman's cat ladder in the dining room. I think he is very phony, and I am tired of him.
rzanna Couldn't agree with you more! Only came online after watching the show to voice my opinion as well. You pretty much said it all for me. I also do not understand why she had to give up her other cats. I felt like she was ganged up on and basically had no say in the matter. It was hurtful to see Jeff and the selfish husbands behavior towards her passion and loves of her life. I would never let anyone manipulate and control me in such a manner. I also will no longer be watching the show. Only show on Bravo I absolutely cannot stand!
He is very phony and I'm also tired of him wrinkling his nose only to show how judgmental and selfish he truly is.
You are obviously a very sick person like this woman is. Ganged up on? Her baby had to get breathing treatments for Christ's sake!!!!! He is allergic!!!! How about she can keep her damn cats and give her children up instead because one or the other has to go. This poor little baby is suffering.
Good post. I also was disappointed with Jeff in his solution here and his garage re-do "for the cats". Err, no, wasn't for the cats. They got a cage outside.
Smurfee888 rzanna I was surprised Jeff didnt get rid of ALL the cats. Sorry kids come first and the bottom line is this womans addiction needed to be dealt with drastically! This was a VERY UNHEALTHY environment for ALL. Disgusting! You have a love for cats fine but 7 is way too many. She should have NEVER taken on such a huge responsibility that she clearly could not manage at all. Props to Jeff an his team! LOVE this show! Tough love all the way Jeff! Your real fans get YOU!
Animal rescue is not an addiction. It is an act of compassion. Jeff's hypocrisy was overwhelming in this episode. I find these programs to be very sad, and I don't think that Jeff's fixing the house solves the problems. Barbara kept four of her cats. Why not have the other three if the solution proposed by Jeff was so effective. If she can keep a clean house, hopefully her child will be healthy. That will take cooperation on the part of her selfish husband. He needs to hire a housekeeper part time to help in the house. Barbara just can't do it all. I hope she continues to rescue animals in some capacity, but obviously not at home. I could not believe the lack of respect for this woman.
rzanna SoFLAHousewife Smurfee888 I am also a rescuer, been doing it for years. I work 24/7 in my house. Sometimes, I have to admit...I get so tired of it all, but in the end...it truly is about compassion and knowing these animals need my help. I agree, she should have been able to keep the other three cats, especially where they ended up in the end of the show. This show was heart-breaking for me to watch. Again, I just really felt she was ganged up on and didn't have a say at all in any of this. Unless, you've walked in her shoes knowing the passion she has for her cats (like her children) it all could have been dealt with differently. Good luck and sending blessings to Barbara.
Beckka SoFLAHousewife Smurfee888
I so respect and am impressed by the work that you do. I'm considering getting involved in working on behalf of animals and their welfare.
rzanna Smurfee888 Animal rescue does not belong in a personal home PERIOD they have animal facilitys for them. She needs to CLEAN as it was her choice not the husbands. It was quite clear she was in over her head. Jeff and his crew handled it great.
Beckka rzanna SoFLAHousewife Smurfee888 what??? she did not rescue anything.. the cats were hiding under a bed in a room filled with filth. rescuing is supposed to be finding and placing them in good homes... they were not in a good home with her and she never placed them in good homes. they were neglected because she did not work with the feral cat to make it accustomed to human companionship. It wasn't a rescue at all. It was like placing them in purgatory. It was sad.. thank God the humane society came in to help and did not investigate to remove all of the cats. She was lucky to keep her kids much less her cats. If U find something good in her caretaking I seriously question Ur abilities as well.
This women has neglected her children, and has deliberately continued to put them in harms way.
If your child is allergic to peanuts, you do not feed them peanut butter sandwiches. Anyone with an allergy has the potential to go into Anaphylactic Shock or die when exposed to allergen triggers.
Shame on this women for choosing cats over the lives and health of her children. If this couple were ever to get a divorce, these taping''s could be used to gain permanent custody of the children. She knowingly and willingly put her children in physical danger daily.
Amen, I would have call Child Protective Services and if I were husband I would be getting a divorce and taking my children to a clean, safe home!
I am sorry Jenni but I don't agree with you and Jeff on this issue of the cats. I love my cat as much as I love my husband, my cat is very much therapy for me, and my husband knows it. But to force someone to get rid of their cats is just like getting rid of a child. My cat is part of my family, and YES my husband is allergic to cats too. But I cannot condone what you made her do. Sorry but I was very upset tonight to see this happen. I may not watch you guys on this show ever again...
KathyBart You are lucky. Because I know a wife that tried to live with her husband and his beloved cats and dog and it almost killed her. I think asking someone you love to feel less than healthy for you, is selfish. Just my opinion. And the choice is his and yours - not mine.
You obviously don't have children. Getting rid of a cat is NOT like getting "rid" of a child. You can't leave your little child home alone all day with nothing but a food bowl and water, you don't wipe tears away from your cat's face, you don't worry when your cat goes out with friends and hope that they use good judgment. As a parent you are responsible for raising a decent productive member of society. It shows a lack of intelligence to think that having an animal is "just like having a child".
