6 Wacky Ways to Travel Around the World by Train (One Involves Getting Naked)

You've never done the locomotion quite like this.

Social media-savvy travelers have lately been pining for new and unique ways to travel by train and pinning ideas about it on Pinterest with increasing frequency (train travel pins are up 136 percent). But if you're ready to actually be about it rather than just pin about it, there are some pretty creative ways to do train travel out there in the world right now. While the United States isn't prone to much in the way of whimsy when it comes to domestic trains, it's a whole different story in other countries. Peep the craziest and best train trips in the world:

Belmond Royal Scotsman, Scotland

Want to get naked on a train (but in, like, a really cool and respectful way)? The Belmond Royal Scotsman has a Bamford Haybarn Spa train car where you can indulge in a massage, facial, or other spa treatments.

Hogwarts Express, Scotland

Scotland is also home to Hogwarts Express, the steam train for Harry Potter fanatics shown in the films that runs through locations you can spot on screen. Want to blow a fan's mind and earn their undying affection? Start here!

Chongqing Metro Monorail, China

If you want to play a real life game in which you all of a sudden think you're on a crazy ride to nowhere good that shouldn't be happening, check out the Chongqing Metro Monorail in China, where you shoot through the remains of what used to be former apartments. The light rail is an ingenious example of finding additional space for transport in a densely crowded city.

Cat Cafe Train and Hello Kitty Train, Japan

Japan's first cat cafe train rolled into stations briefly last summer as an adoption awareness event that supporters hope might return again this summer, which might give you something to tide you over until the big Japanese Hello Kitty train between Osaka and Fukuoka launches.

Hello Kitty Express Train, Taiwan

In the meantime, you can take the more modest but still totally super cute Taiwanese Hello Kitty train that runs about 300 miles between Taipei and Taitung in Taiwan. Or you can be patient until the one in Japan opens and do both in one Sanrio-themed trip to Asia!
