Joe Francis, of Girls Gone Wild fame, went rather wild, financially speaking, when he funneled millions of dollars to maintain his XXL Mexican estate in super luxurious Punta Mita, Mexico. The sprawling and stunning property (also known as Casa Aramara) is a favorite destination for notable celebs including Kim Kardashian and Kanye West — and the place where Kim shot 6,000 selfies over four days. But Francis can't make a penny off it until his debts are repaid, a judge has ruled. Put simply: Joe Francis lost the rights to Casa Aramara.
According to The Blast, the trustee in Francis’ bankruptcy case “alleged that Francis was profiting off the rental… and keeping the money from his creditors.”
Considering the per night rate for a stay in the lush 12-bedroom, 13-bathroom villa was about $35,000, that’s a lot of cash to hide under your proverbial mattress. (BTW, per Casa Aramara’s listing on HomeAway.com, that per night rate has downsized to a mere $17,000, in case you want to plan a visit.)
Alas, court papers obtained by both The Blast and People state very clearly that money funneling was happening over the course of two years... at least. The documents read: “Specifically, between March 2011 and February 2013, Joseph R. Francis, the Debtors’ founder, funneled more than $2.1 million of the Debtors’ funds to various persons and entities in order to build and maintain the Casa Aramara Property.” Yeesh.
Since the judge sided with the trustee, any and all Casa Aramara profits will enter a private trust until the entire $2 million balance is paid. The Kardashians are likely now Googling other Punta Mita-level hotspots for their next luxurious vacation. Here's a top-end and family friendly Punta Mita idea we might suggest for their ever-growing brood!
