Honestly if you wanted Andrew to be a more productive member of the team you should treat him as a member of the team, not your whipping boy. It's sad to see you pass on the treatment you received...start a new system of 'well this is WHY I need it like this..' not just 'I can't believe you couldn't read my mind!!'
I totally agree FormerPRgirl - quality comes from the top. If you are frenetic and unfocused, don't be surprised when your assistant is as well. I have been on both sides of the desk - and I will never be the type of employer that misdirects my unhappiness on my employees.
