Being Danish royalty, Baroness Caroline Fleming can have pretty much anything she'd want in her kitchen. Moreover, she's a royal with three best-selling Danish cookbooks, so we expected a lot from a video tour she recently gave of her kitchen. But let's just say this is not what we imagined.
Immediately, we are envious of her copper cookware and gorgeous golden cutlery. But slowly we realize that Caroline Fleming is one of us. Her essentials are jam jars like we have in our cupboard, though admittedly ours are without the "cotton wool buds." She reuses items like her glassware display and bread baskets, which also double for laundry. She even says it's not necessarily the pricey or fancy items that are "essential": What's important is to buy "the stuff that makes you happy. The stuff that you really enjoy to use."
But her most beloved item? This:
Her grandmother's pot. Sure, it's not gilded, it's not shiny, but this well-worn pot is priceless. "I'm going to make sure that this is as used and as loved and serves as much incredible food and gives as much joy as possible," says Fleming. "Like it did when granny used it."
Be sure to tune into the Ladies of London finale, Tuesday at 8/9c.
