Season 2
Season 1
Colin's gone ... and now there is only 7. I wake up and miss Colin eating lean crunchy Granola and yogurt. I'm feverish and aching today. My head is pounding and I ache from working out too!
We are having a shoot focused on the little things. I think jewelry and swimsuits or beauty shots. I need a beauty shot for my books. We take the subway to a studio in Williamsburg. We meet up with Tyson and Nicole. They are standing in front of a table of accessories and a couple racks of garment bags. Hm. We have 30 seconds to pick our accessory. In a mad rush, I get earrings because I need a beauty shot.
Hey there is a new little twist: it's naked! A full body naked shot with only the accessory. What are my parents gong to say is the most concerning thing to me! Bill our photog says nudity is about being comfortable with your body, catching people's eyes, and then drawing the focus to the accessory. I'm nervous but excited to have a picture like this for my book.
We change into robes and slippers so we won't have marks on our bodies and go into makeup. Somehow a piece of my earring fell off. The stylist and I look around and finally after five long minutes I found it on the floor. Scary. Because of lack of communication between higher powers I get an 80s hairstyle and very commercial smoky eyes. I'm immediately after the boys and so I'm the first girl to get shot.
Nicole takes one look and says "What do you think of your hair?" I say "kinda 80s but I can work it." The photographer doesn't think its his vision either and thinks it's dated! I'm so happy I didn't think it was the best look for me.
The photographer comes out and asks for changes on our hair and makeup. So Amanda goes in first. She comes out saying it was AMAZING ... like she says every time.
My turn ... I go in and the look is approved. I strip butt naked and start imagining I have clothes on. Nicole asks me what my mom would think. I say I have to mentally block that out or I will suck!
The photographer Bill thinks my butt is nice. Thank god he doesn't seem perverted at all. I'm surprisingly comfortable naked in front of a camera. The hardest part is looking natural covering the pink parts.
Nicole makes the comment to always keep your eyes looking the way your nose is pointed! I will use this advice forever!
As I was leaving she said i was exciting to the photographer and that's a good thing. I have to win this! I want big butt gal to win.
I wake up around 8 a.m.. It feels great to sleep in. Nicole comes early today and she almost gets people out of bed. I'm antsy to see my nudey shot. I open my book and I see the picture. it is a beauty shot! The picture is perfectly balanced and my body is thin and it is selling those earrings. I really do love this naked picture. Nicole tells Mountaha her picture is her favorite and she asked for a black and white picture to hang in her place. Sandhursts's is perfectly balanced. Jordan's first shot is the one that Bill picked. WHO is gonna win? Branden answers the phone and Cory wants to talk tooo ... Salome! I scream. I wish I was quieter but it just popped out!
I get to go to Vitra, a furniture company that is all over the world based out of Switzerland. I pick Jordan. I want to book this so badly. We are SOO relieved to get out of the house if nothing else, to get to look at anyone other than my competitors. We sign in. There are a variety of other models. Black, white, boys, men, girls, thin, heavy ...
Nigel Scott Williams is the creative director. He tells us about the furniture and then we have an on the spot test shoot on three pieces of furniture. James the photographer wants lots of shapes. I definitely give lots of variation. We discuss people in the house and how they are getting on our nerves. We are missing talking to people we can trust and really know. I miss Dinah my sister and Terry my boyfriend almost till it hurts.
I need to vent. How much longer can I wait till I blow?! Just a couple more weeks I can do it.
When we walk in, Sandhurst, Jonathan and Amanda are obviously having a deep discussion in the living room. We tell them about our go see. I go get ready to go to the gym. Mountaha just got out of the shower. I ask her if any drama went on. She tells me that yes it was about me. What now!
They say it's unfair because my picture is the only picture that doesn't have butt in it, when my butt is my problem spot. It just seems too lucky for me. They feel they see my butt too much ... because my closet is near the living room instead of in a room. So I get worked up. Maybe I will blow sooner than I thought I would! Drama, drama. I hear the door bell. It's cory with a measuring tape. So after we get settled in the living room I ask the people what they thought about me having a beauty shot. It's not my fault I got lucky. It's not fair but they are knocking me for it. My turn to get measured. Another inch in the boobs and everything else is about the same. What is wrong! HELP! Cory senses the tension and suggests maybe they are overanalyzing because I won. I need to focus on my real issues and quit worrying about DRAMA.
We are allowed our second 10 minute phone call. I call Dinah for the first time since here. She screams ... (It runs in the family). I miss my sister and family. I have so much to say I don't know what to say. I am just relieved to hear a familiar voice! Then i call Terry (boyfriend). Goodness it makes me almost crazy not being able to see and touch him. I can't wait to win and go home and have freedom again.
This competition makes me look at everything in a new and more appreciative light! Catwalk this week is about the details. We are living pieces of art. We are have clear plastic bulbs about 24 inches across. They are slightly heaving and you can't hear anything but my own wheels in my mind turning pretty much. Slightly claustrophobic and painful. I need to not walk with my feet crossed over ... and glide. Oh and our heads aren't gonna be the only thing in the globe. There is gonna be something in it with us! Our outfits are neon skintight outfits and our faces are painted and butterflies are our accessories.
As soon as I put my head in, butterflies land on my eyes, ear and mouth. It itches and you can't scratch. It starts getting steamy and I start feeling my mind start psyching myself out. The runway is a blur. I don't know what the judges will say now. I don't feel good about it. The judges start with Amanda. Excuses, excuses, excuses again. I was smirking and Mountaha was rolling her eyes and smirking because they wanted to know what was so funny. She said she was fine and didn't have anything to say. So they asked me. I said what everyone was thinking. "When you look at a picture you don't hear all the excuses." Oh God! Why did I say anything? I should let them make the judgment.
Jenny said "So you don't think she should answer our questions?" How do I be honest and not hurt people? "It would be more interesting to hear what ya'll had to say." She should listen and soak up their critique instead of making excuses! That is the only way we can learn. Amanda is forgettable.
Jonathan did good not great, needs more expression.
Jordan needs to wow them like she did at the beginning. They feel like she isn't standing out. They thought her picture was her hiding behind the purse.
Branden has faded and needs to stop bouncing.
Salome's walk sucked, the pose was awful ... Marlon and Perou liked my picture. Jenny and Catherine thought it needed more wow factor. I was not up to their expectation this week. I need to get in shape. I need to listen to the photographer even more and not move so fast. Sandhurst's walk was too fast and needs more expression in the eyes.
Mountaha had a great walk. They wished for more in the picture.
We all did NOT make them think Supermodel. It was disappointing for them. It is ANYBODY'S game now they said.
Who is going home? Amanda goes home because she is forgettable. We need to be remembered long after people see you to be a Supermodel.
She has the most amazing eyes out of all the models. In panel though she needs to step up and start saying thank you to the other models for helping her out. In the underwater shoot she never told Sandhurst Thank you or Mountaha for helping her out during the 60's shoot.
Your photo shoot was great! It appears that the producers are showing you as an underdog, with your Mennonite religious background. Your nude shoot was so tasteful that only unreasonable people could object. Last season't winner, Holly, with her mousey personality, was also an underdog, so hang in there!
Salome. you are a beautiful young woman with a great future ahead of you. If not as "Top Model" then you can become top on your own. You have a great vessel to ride in and just take care of it and it will take you a long way. I wish you all the best and hope you win this contest. May all your wishes come true and may you live happily ever after.
You can get it off. Stay on that treadmill and keep doing what you're doing - you are a lovely girl.
Salome, You are beautiful...butt and all. People are jealous because you have curves. If it was so bad, you would have been eliminated already. Stay you...and don't forget God in the process. He is the ONLY one that won't let you down.
God Bless and Good luck!
Salome, you are beautiful and an amazing person. Your life has been a great journey and with your backgroung I bet it required tons of courage to get here, don't let the others beat you up with their comments, its part of the competition, they are just frustrated... YOU ARE AWSOME and your body is just great. Be yourself, learn what you can and keep working out. Love ya'
Salome, you are a beautiful girl and my favorite. I am rooting for you. Please don't make anymore negative comments about your fellow contestants the way you did with Amanda. You are starting to sound like Jordan and that is not a good thing. Remember that true beauty comes from within. When you are beautiful on the outside too, it just makes it better.
Hi Salome, I think we met a long time ago at Mafioza's in Nashville. I remember urging you to do modeling and wanting to do some photography together. I wish we had done this! Good luck. I hope we can work together some time in the future. ~Carie Thompson cariephoto@gmail.com www.flickr.com/photos/cariephoto
Salome, I'm so glad that you are still there!! I'm proud of you for not stooping to Jordan's level and trashing others, most notable Amanda. Keep working hard, I hope you go far!
Salome,
You are beautiful!! I wish that I had your curves!! I've been dieting almost all of my life; and you are an insparation that a person doesn't have to be stick thin to be beautiful!! To my dismay my butt is not only big, but it is flat too! I can't see why everybody is gripping that you have a big butt. You have a beautiful butt! Why can't anyone remember that the really Supermodels that where and are legends where the ones that had curves.... i.e. Cindy Crawford, Tyra Banks, and Evangelesta. From what I hear all the time from the streets is that the modeling and entertainment world need to change. What type of role models are they setting for the young girls in this world if they are saying that you can't be beautiful unless you are pencil thin!!! YOUR CURVES SHOW THAT YOU ARE A WOMAN NOT A LITTLE GIRL. We and the modeling world should be inspired and proud of that fact!! NOT ASHAMED!!! GOOD LUCK !!!! If you don't win then it would be the industry's lost of a great model that could show the world what real beauty is !!!!!!!
salome, i really like you in the competition! you have a great all-around look about you. but i agree with "katnic" - you must give some credit to your competitors for all the help they've given you! you CAN do this on your own two feet, and i admire your willingness to take those things taught you and apply them to your pics and your walk. good luck and have a great time!
Hey, I just wanted to see if you actually get to read this. If you do can you say Adam on the show this week? I like your style. I used to be in a religion that was sort of like yours and now I want to model, how exactly did you audition for the show?
wow. your are wayy too crtical about other people. you should care about yourself and stop complaining about everyone else. Mountaha never gets the recognition she should when she does shoots with you. i thought she looked better than you in the 60s shoot honestly.
Salome you are definitely one of my favorites, but don't let attitude overpower the supermodel potential you have...show grace to others no matter what! Keep your confidence up and don't worry so much about the competition--you can compete! Saying thank you to panel and to other models won't cost your any points! Focus on your values and goals--you don't have to sacrifice how you are----just WOW them with what you can do!
Hey Salome, Out of all the girls I like your body the best. I'm really tired of all the 2x4 board girls. Most girls and women these days have curves!! I myself am only 5'1 and weigh about 110. I have a butt and boobs (D's in fact). You by all means are a beautiful girl and your body is great. Do not let them make you think that you are wrongly proportioned in any way shape or form. I honestly believe this trend with the board thin girls is a tragic thing and it puts unrealistic goals in girls heads. I also believe it was started by men fashion designers. Why you ask??? Think about how these supposed "girls" look..........They look like adolescent boys!!!! Hmmm. Makes ya think doesn't it. Your gorgeous and don't let anyone else tell you any different. You should be the next Super Model!! Hang in there and don't give up your dream!!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Susan A real women with real curves...
P.S. I also have three children and if that doesn't change your bod then nothing will!!!
Salome,
Rise above all of the pettiness in the house. I can't believe you said what you did to the judges about Amanda. Focus on where you are going girl. For some reason I think you can win this. Everytime you take on a challenge remember that we want to see the beauty outside that you must have inside. Shine!!!!
You were wearing earrings to showcase. A shot that showed your butt would have been too far out to see them properly. It was a beautiful photo and you looked positively breathtaking...that's why the judges chose you. The other models don't understand you because they are not familiar with the strict Mennonite culture in which you were raised. Diversity is to be celebrated. Educate them and others who don't understand. You broke away but that doesn't mean you can't be respectful of the tenets of your family's social and religious beliefs. Honor them and you honor yourself, Salome. Good luck, I'm rooting for you!
You're my favorite model on the show & I hope that you end up winning. You're the female contestant to me that stands out and screams Supermodel. While you need to work on your walk, I believe that will come with time. I don't see where looking bony & emasciated is attractive. To me you're the most attractive woman contestant and really stand out. And you're not fat by any stretch of the imagination. You have great skin, a fantastic complexion and really know how to work it in photos. You're also tall which is a real plus for the runway.
I thought it strange though that the go see you went on was more for non-supermodel types since this is a show about Supermodels and that they didn't want any dramatic poses - but didn't bother telling the models what they were looking for until after you auditioned.
Salmoe Your great. Real women have curves. Hang in there. Not all super models are bone thin. Look at Tyra Banks. You both are beautiful . god bless take care
I think you are FANTASTIC, Salome!! You are so far away from being fat---people in this culture are so conditioned to see women in fashion as thin as little boys. Your figure is beautiful--regardless of the outcome of the show (and I think you have a great shot at winning!) never let anyone tell you any different. It is refreshing to see a woman with curves in fashion. You are by far the most expressive model on the show. Your photos rock, and when you are on your game you catwalk rocks, too. You go, girl!! And good luck in all you do, on the show and off.
Keep your confidence up! You are gorgeous, your eyes are unlike all others, you have a MEMORABLE face. You are doing a fabulous job and I hope you win.
Salome,
THANK YOU for speaking up (and to the judges) about Amanda. I'm not certain how much of her issues is bad editing but she and CJ were getting on my last raw nerve. Congrats for still being in there and keep on kickin' butt!
Jade
Salome, I was just watchin the show and your comment about the weave came off as ignorant and stereotypical. You must not be that familar with fashion and models because if you were then you would know, that the models on the runway use weave all the time to switch up their look without damaging or overprocessing their hair. You should really think before you speak.
I think your body is so freakin awesome! Don't you dare be sad about your hot 38 inch ass!!! you are so sexy and we women support you 100%!!!
I do admit that you are one of the best models on the show. I understand that you were living this Amish lifestyle, being naive towards "only black people" wears weave, I feel very offended and surprised. Maybe you don't know alot about black people, all races where weaves. You need to learn alot about all people.
Hello Salome
Well i was very surprised when i heard your comment that you made on national televeison. if you didnt know not all black people wear weaves, and as you found out anyone can wear weave. It is so sad to me that you are discriminating against one whole race of people when that is so not the case. Im sorry but it seems to me that you need to educate yourself more about other people, so you WILL NOT make this mistake again. I feel as though i have to say something about this because i cant allow black women to be the scapegoat for weave wearing...
Salome, you are charming and beautiful. I call it angelic! You have an amazing Character and the way you handle things is incredible. I am cheering for you....
salome salome salome i liked u alll they way to know u tryed when u said "I THOUGH WEAVE WAS FOR BLACK PEOPLE" i think that wasn't called for salome. if you know about fashion and modeling u will know that every single girl where weave and its not only black people.
Salome, PLEASE STOP obsessing over your God given beautiful butt! We, your fans, believe in you! We are holding you up...voting for you...and there is no way you can fall unless you stop believing in yourself! I watched the show tonight twice...to say goodbye to Jordan! She was a whiner and quite the walking contradiction! I am sure she will have lots of work out there, but she was not a supermodel! Keep believing in yourself! You deserve to be there...you are just so awesome!
You are SOO beautiful! I think that you have one of the most striking face!! your amazing and keep it up sweetie!! they will realize that they shouldnt care the size ... BECAUSE YOUR AMAZING
That stupid judge I want to give him a good lecture on the human body. How dare that idiot of a man says he Does not like your body. you are my favorite and secretly tough. AND YOU HAVE THE BEST BODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyways keep it up and I want to see you smile. And smirk. Stay confident. Those basterds. My father always told me if you can't take critism you can't live in this world and you are surviving by being you. Keep it up.
I just started watching later night reruns of the show, and I find that you are standing out amongst the others in the house. Your look seems very versatile to me and I loooove your hair. Good luck with everything you do your photos are amazing!
you're my favourite model, but the judges are right about one thing. your face always looks the same. you are beautiful, but seem stuck with one look. the mouth partly open, wide-eyed look. to beat mountaha, you have to step it up! i know you can do it, for all the girls who have CURVES!
loosing weight? try not combining carbs with protein.. it's simple science to tired to explain here but it's explained and copied in soo many books. the first book was "Fit For Life.' in any library!! only combine w/ vegies.. no milk products! soda etc.
First, her needing to lose inches is ridiculous but it is the industry that requires it. I saw Nicole Miller interviewed a few years back about why she designs her clothes for models who are a size 2 when the general population is nowhere near that size. She said she felt that her clothes looked best on a size 2 model so that's what she does. Until the designers change, nothing else will. It is sad too because look at how much more they could sell if the sizing was realistic. Salome is my favorite girl, she has a good soul and I've seen her say many nice things about her competitors. Also, this show is editted so just because you don't see her thanking people for help, doesn't mean she's not doing it.
Salome, I will kill to have your butt! The skinny models are so over now.... Don't stress yourself about your weight. It is beliverble for a normal size great model.
What the hell do you mean you "thought extensions were only for black people"!? What kind of BS is that! I can't tell you how many white girls I've seen with tracks sticking out of their heads. What's next? You think only black people eat fried chicken too? It's 2009 and ignorance is no longer in style.
Salome, We are in your corner... I too was raised in the shelter of a smothering religion and as an adult and Mom now, I have raised my kids to seek the personal relationship with God and not worry about man made rules and religion. You are rebelling a bit now but it is expected with the bondage you have been living in. But you now have the chance, wih your God given favor, beauty, innocense and charm... You can win this. You need to win this for many reasons. You have the oppurtunity to show your friends and your family you can rise out of the religious bondage and be a success without completly converting to all worldly ways. Watch out for falling prey to traps set to make you look like you dont have morals and values. You have a great fondation, you just needed freedom. When He said it was finished, it was finished! It is the new law, don't cross the line, use your conviction to keep you on the right path and then who could be agaist you when He is for you! You are an inspiration to so many young girls who see you, your life and your figure so relateable to them! I will pray for much success and favor. For whom much is given, much is expected. Now... go kick some booty and give Him the glory!
dont worry about your body! personally ithink it is one of the most beautiful there and it made me sad to see how stressed you were about it:( skinny modela all look the same- u look unique and beautiful, a more interesting body. u r so pretty!
guys! chill! Salome has black family! and she loves them. my god... in the every day world it is more common for a "black girl" to have weave - most every day white girls don't. that's all she meant. seriously, I'm over the race fanaticism that goes on in our world today. chill. Salome was raised that a person is a person, and she isn't being racist or derogatory... she's making a comment!
I am so sad to watch you go Salome.... I dont even want to watch the show anymore....I love the fact that you won the photo shoot week after week and everyone seething with Jealousy!! it was awesome!! You should not have been kicked OFF!!! Those judges are idiots!! How can they kick someone off that won all of the photo shoots? that does not make any SENSE!!! WHATEVER!!!

Salome, you are beautiful the way your are. Don't change your curves.
