I wake up and my eyes are swollen shut from an allergic reaction to the paint. It itches and I have to do a shoot today! Ice cubes take the swelling down some. Enough to be slightly less swollen.
Amanda went bye-bye. Now there are three boys and three girls. One in six chances I will win $100,000 and be a supermodel.
Jonathan, Sandhurst, Mountaha and I go work out at 6 a.m.
We models are to prepare to get Rowdy. We take the subway to 45th street between 9th and 10th. We walk through the rain and meet up with Tyson and Nicole on a rooftop.
Today we are shooting for Dallas Austin. He is a music producer for Gwen Stefani and Madonna. He just designed a new clothing line called Rowdy. We will be shooting his premiere ad campaign. There is no set time for us to shoot. We each have at least two looks but it is up to the photographer Patrick Anderson and Dallas to pull us out and put us in according to their vision. We will be in solo, group, and doubles depending on how they like.
Tyson gives the guys and Nicole gives the gals one-on-ones.
Nicole tells me to be personable, workable, powerful. The client is on set, a big deal advantage or disadvantage depending on how we use it.
We go into hair and makeup. The boys get done first. Patrick takes them and immediately starts shooting. Jordan and I are last. Suddenly we realize everyone has had a couple looks and hours later we still haven't shot anything.
It hits us if we don't get ourselves up there we will get no shots and no shots equals no pictures in our book. So we pretty much force ourselves up to the roof.
They make a group shot. Then Mountaha and I do a couple shots together.
We go back to styling; they want to do just one more look for the girls. Jordan and I explain to the stylist our situation so we get one more look before the last shot. We fight over Jonathan. This shoot is so much fun!
We girls go to change into Dallas' dream of his campaign. He has always wanted girls in men's underwear with no tops on saying "for me" underneath.
Here we go — boobies again! I realize this is where I need to rock! It is a sure shot and I want to show the judges a couple curves are hot! I need a solo shot. I will make my body look perfect in men's underwear and men's boots.
We three girls shoot together, standing sitting on a beam. Girl power, the men love it! It is cold and windy and we are here with no clothes on. I block out what my family will say to me when they see this. I try to make my curves high fashion and not anything pornographic! We look up and the guys are watching. Surprise. Dallas pulls Mountaha and Jordan out and I shoot by myself. I feel good. They shoot Mountaha and Jordan alone too. It's a wrap. Dallas hugs us and says we rock!
Before Nicole comes we girls are discussing how uncool it is that the boys got hours of shooting yesterday and we girls only got around one. Common sense says that if you have 2,000 shots your chance of having a great shot is much more likely than if you only have 200 shots. We will probably have a boobie shot and that's it.
Nicole arrives with only one book. She tells us that's because there is only one winner. We girls tell her how we feel. She says, "Salome do you have confidence?" I need to stop questioning my strength. She says the best models don't have to have all day to get the shot. I still feel like Jonathan could win; he shot all day!
I am the only person with four pictures. I only like the one of me alone. Who wins? Mountaha is really strong and has three pictures. Jonathan only has one with his eyes closed. Shocking!
Cory calls and I am the winner. Two wins in a row. This is awesome! Three out of the last four shots. I am so happy I am taking people's vision and translating it to the BEST. I'm the favorite to work with and I am getting the job done fast! I'm so proud of myself.
I'm going on a go-see to Alice & Olivia. Feminine clothes that look good on any woman. There is no job in particular. We are just going to show our faces to them for the future. Mountaha is my pick of the week.
We get a one-on-one from Nicole and she tells us to meet her in the living room.
Tyson and Nicole feel like we need anothermake over to give us supermodel wow factor. Tyson picked looks for the guys. Nicole for us girls. The only thing I don't want is weave glued to my head. I love my short hair. Nicole looks a little uneasy when I say that! Uh-oh!
We take a car to the park where Fashion Week is held at.
We go upstairs and meet Stacey the designer and Melissa the casting director. They look through our books. They love the pixie stick shots. The first thing they tell us is they don't usually book short-haired girls.
We try on clothes and they take Polaroids. Stacey stands up and is popping in 10 days pregnant in six-inch heels. WOW she is adorable. The only thing that doesn't work on me is the pants; they are too short.
They tell Mountaha she is too edgy. Stacey says I have a sweet face and she kinda likes the contrast of my short hair with her feminine clothes. They may use me for their summer shoot. They will over the pics to compare and let us know if they need us.
We go to Cutler to get our makeovers. Rodney Cutler seats us. He tells me I'm getting long hair!
I'm hesitant. He tells me it's not glued or sewn to my head. It's hair added to my hair and I won't hardly know it's there. If this is what the judges need to see me as a Supermodel then OK. I'm excited about instant long hair.
Seven hours later I'm finally done I have an aching scalp and a couple inches longer hair. It's kinda a long bob. My hair was too short to put in the extensions in the back. So I kinda just have long hair over the ears. I'm just ready to go home. I have to get up in like five hours.
Runway is with Heelys, those shoes kids wear with wheels on the bottom. Isn't it about time to get real with the runways and quit just making it ridiculous for show.
We will get bonus points for wearing Heelys but we have the option to have regular shoes and do the best walk of our life.
Jordan and I have an hour of training with Jo. it's all about balance. He is a great trainer. I pick it up fairly easily. It's all in the head like any competition.
Hair is painful. You can't run a comb through it, you can't pul it back, you can only part it in one place. Cecilia, hairstylist, almost loses her mind it is so difficult. How is this to help me be MORE versatile? I want these extensions out!
I get weave in my hair. It's purple and turquoise. My outfit looks like a roller derby gal that lost her mind. Only crazy people have stuffed animals attached to them usually. It's crazy cool. I love it.
Jordan and Sandhurst are struggling with the Heelys. Sandhurst has immunity so Jordan is the one in trouble ... but she can always walk in regular shoes.
The runway goes well. I don't do anything crazy. The clothes are crazy enough.
Branden got lucky this week.
Judges say, "Salome, We don't really like your pictures, we don't think you should have been the winner, your face is the same in these pictures, you didn't stop long enough at the end." I accomplished the photographer and the client's vision the best. The judges thought my walk was fine but I'm still in the bottom! I'm confused. What more can I do?
Salome, I just love you! I love your curves too!!!!! Lets face it, in the real world nobody wants a stick figure. Boring! Don't let them tell you can't be a supermodel with your curves. Tyra Hello? You're gorgeous, you have a good personality and I'm rooting for you. Seems like the model industry says one thing but really wants another.
Girl, you are drop dead beautiful. And with a look like that -- why shouldn't it be the same in all your shots! I have news for the judges. Fashion this and fashion that, let me tell you something there ain't nothing wrong with your curves.
Salome--I've been pulling for you from the very first episode. That Rowdy solo picture was awesome. As a person who is STILL recovering from an eating disorder, I wanted to tell you to keep up your healthy attitude about weight loss. I would not wish an eating disorder on my worst enemy. You are beautiful, and I think, considering your background (I was raised Mennonite in Eastern PA (not Old Order, though)), that you have shown amazing adaptability --both to overcome the repression of sexuality in Mennonite culture and to familiarize yourself enough with modern culture to succeed in the shoots every week. Tyson is insane. If you wear it, I'll buy it (if I can fit into it!).
I'm going for you all the way. I am also from Grundy, Co. I live in Tracy City though. When I saw the first episode and I saw Altamont was your hometown, I didn't believe it. I hope your mennonite background helps you finish and win the competition.
You are beautiful and I believe you will make money in the modeling industry. However, please, please, please lose no less than 15 pounds. No, I do not think you are fat but the fashion industry will destroy your confidence if you are not able to fit into the sample sizes (size 0 for most designers), which is what is used for all runways. Try non-fried chicken breast and raw dark leafy greens. If you eat as a salad use low fat instead of non-fat dressing and this can be eaten all day as much as you want; also, only drink water to quench your thirst. Follow this for one month and you will see the pounds drop fast (fruit only for breakfast). Don't forget to exerise.
Average model measurements: 34-24-34
Way to go with the photo shoot!! I think your poses and your size is/are perfect!! I hope you listen to the judges and win then just go back to who you are. An eating disorder to destroy a beauty that God has naturally given you, isn't worth the "catwalk work". You can be a huge success in print and commercials maybe even movies one day! Go all the way girl!!
Salome, you rock!! I love how confident and comfortable you are with your body, especially considering your background. i hope you make it to the top. stay strong.
Whether or not these particular judges pick you to win this show, you DO have a place in the modeling industry! You photograph beautifully and your body is fantastic. Don't let anyone turn you into a stick figure! Forget the runway and all those sample sizes, focus on print, you're amazing.
Number one you are beautiful and your curves are part of you. Now try the Richard Simmons "tootsie roll" It took inches off my buttocks and may help you out with the too much bottom problem they keep throwing in your face. Tried to find you a video of it...you sit on the floor, legs straight in front of you, toes pointed, now extend your arms in front of you with fingers interlocked. The result clincher is the next thing...roll back and forth on your bottom..side to side but using butt and side muscles only...you will feel the burn and in less than a month it took an inch off of me by doing this 2 times a day for 15 minutes. Great follow up to a cardio work out. Hope this helps you. Keep your chin up and stay in the game you are our family favorite!
Don't let them get you down, Salome. You're the prettiest girl there and you have the best body. People are sick of the concentration camp look in fashion. The client picked you because you have the body you have. Like Nicole said - Bombshell.
With your face and your body, I don't think you'll ever want for work modeling - not if the clients want people to pay attention to their products.
You are my favorite since day one! I think you are gorgeous, different, and memorable. Curves are in style right now all over the world with celebrities like J.Lo, Scarlett Johanson and Beyonce. Even women in Russia are getting plastic surgery to have J.Lo's butt! So you go girl!!!! I really like you because you are not arrogant like Jordan or Jonathan and you never talk back to the judges. You are very sweet and treat the rest of the models with respect. Congratulations!!!!!
Salome, You are a one look model. Try to give more depth to your look. You are becoming boring. Step it up & do not be rude to the others. You complain about your body size but only YOU can lose the weight!!! unless you are going for a plus size model figure. While there is nothing wrong with that. You will not be a super model with your present body type.
Salome - don't let those judges get to you about your "supposed" big rearend! I can't believe how thin you are and still they say they're worried about your weight! It's sickening! You are absolutely beautiful and I have been rooting for you since day one! Go and win this thing!
Please don't let anyone force you to lose your gorgeous curves! You are stunning and will have all the work you want when this competition is over. Screw the catwalk and its bony, boy-looking waifs...you're a photographer's dream.
I AGREE!!lOOK HOW FAR YOU'VE COME!!!... THE TOP "5"...Salome you look healthy, like what real women(model) in this world should look like. You are NOT too curvy or anything of the sort. Thre's a differince between (Fat), (curvy and healthy) and a(unhealthey skeleleton stick thin ... being) Noticed ONE LIKE THAT she just went home..."J". don't do as I have been most my life too THIN and Physically sick and weak because of it. So just hang in there and always eat healthy CHANGE UP your workout every few days(do different exercise(muscle mass confusion) and firming...know as fat burnnig techic what small amount of it you may have ib your body it may just need to be toned...it will pay off in the end. Even if it just for you. YOU personally have had tosacrifice a lot in your way of life and remember; LOOK HOW FAR YOU HAVE COME!! The TOP "5"!!!!! there is something special about you. Keep your spirits up you desirve to be three
If you don't win this contest the judges need to have their eyes tested. You are so beautiful. The judge with the sunglasses is so nasty to you. There was no call for it. You look amazing in the photos and in the clothes. You have been a joy to watch. Since day one you have had such a positive attitude and a nice sunny smile on your face. If you do get eliminated at some point in the contest I wish you the best. The rest of the models are so boring I would have no reason to watch the rest of the series. Good Luck, Salome!
Yeah Salome, You have the it factor, that makes people want to look at you. I say if you don't succeed in runway modeling, focus on print ORRRRRR cha-ching, go into acting. You are the perfect size for acting. You don't have to be stick stick thin, there is some flexibility. There is modeling involved, in that you stlll have to look pretty and if you are successful, actors can end up using their persona to model. so just stick around until you find your niche, but you have a great face, and that star quality.
As beautiful as you are I was saddened by the statement you made, "I THOUGHT ONLY BLACK PEOPLE WEAR WEAVE" you probably wont make many friends in the industry with comments like that. And its even harder to believe what you said considering not only the different looks in fashion but the hair is fashioned as well. Black Girl
I was OUTRAGED when I watched you be called fat.
It's ridiculous the standards that have been set, and-- It seemed to be going in the right direction on modeling shows recently, with women who actually look like women getting the grand prizes. Then, with Make Me a Supermodel, they actually seem to be going backwards! You AREN'T plus size, you AREN'T fat, you are GORGEOUS. You have fabulous curves, and that's one of the many things that make you so beautiful.
If you're fat, then I'm sure that the majority of women right now would LOVE to be as fat as you.
You were my favorite for the longest. I love everyone in the house but I definetly root for you every week. I thought the judges were so wierd this week! You had the best pictures and a good walk yet you were in the bottom confusing much?? I think your great and obviously the photographers do to or they wouldnt choose you to win so much! I had my fingers crossed for your go see Im glad she said they would consider you finally. I think your amazing good luck!! By the way your Rowdy pictures were hot I thought they were amazing
Viewer at 9:05. If you think Salome is a plus size model with her body, you are seriously, seriously, seriously deluded. Salome doesn't "complain" about her body; she expresses frustration that, in spite of her exercise routine and diet, she is unable to lose inches around her hips (including her butt). This show is filmed in 12 weeks. Salome, who is probably at or below her ideal weight to begin with, will struggle to lose weight (her body will fight it b/c of the survival instinct), and without proper nutrition her metabolism will slow, and excessive exercise and lack of sleep will make her look like sh*t. Expecting her to be rail thin in 12 weeks is moronic. The fact that she understands this is a testament to her character and her ability to work in that profession without developing serious eating and mental health issues. Its time to change the sample size to something that reflects health and vitality. The photogs on the show obviously get that.
Salome - You are gorgeous, you are stunning, your curves are fantastic, your face is beautiful. Even if you don't win, you will succeed. Not everyone wants to see anorexic, stick thin women in their clothes (as you found in your most recent go-see. Sure, if you can lost a few pounds, do it - but do it with exercise, rather than by starving yourself. Exercise like crazy, get incredibly toned and you'll be even more gorgeous than you are now. Go girl. Knock 'em dead!
Salome, You are very naive and uninformed. Blacks aren't the only people who wear weaves. You're in the modeling profession and I'm sure you've seen models of various ethnic groups sporting weaves.
The competition may be over as we watch, but Sandhurst said it this week, your body is "ridiculous", which means, it's hot. Don't get down on 38 in. Many women wish for it. Lady, you've got a hot bod and more realistic to the rest of the world (and actually far smaller than many of us). Jordan's body (and attitude) was sick. It's sad that the judges see a little wiggle and disqualify. Human is human, duh!
Salome, I think you are great and you have been my favorite from the beginning. Obviously the photographers love you, for good reason! Just keep your chin up and work hard and you'll show those judges that you deserve to win!
Just do what you came to do. I think you are fierce. Awesome bod, with a strong and refreshing walk in my opinion. Why must everyone be such a "cookie cutter" model? You stand out, and I love it! Take it all the way Salome.
You came, you saw, you conquered.
More than any other girl on that show YOU have the body and face I would Love to have. You're gorgeous. I want to slap the judges every time they mention your body. Don't let them get you down. Even if the judges are too blind to see past outdated ideals of an anorexic stick figure on the runway, I think you'll have an incredible career ahead of you.
Salome, You are doing great!! I just want you to know that most real women (the customers) are sick of the sticks the fashion industry keep laying on us. You are curvy and bueatiful in photos and on the catwalk. I personally like models who look healthy and not malnutrioned. I think you should love every curve you have and tell the judges you are a fit healthy woman and you look great and they keep picking you as a fave so stuff it. ok maybe be nicer but still be happy with yourself.
Salome, You are the reason I keep watching the show. I was raised Mennonite too, and I know how hard it is to break out from that mindset and be your own person.(Let alone doing it in front of millions of people!)I think you are beautiful inside and out. I would love to learn more about you. Keep being yourself and you will make it to the top! From one "reformed" mennonite chick to the next... YOU GO GIRL!!! Tess
I think you are awsome! There is nothing "fat" about you! I get so mad when I see how you struggle to get rid of fat that isn't even there!! I wish you the best!!
Salome... Keep up the good work yeah the judges may not like your pictures..but we do!!! I'm so happy Jordan is gone she was soooo mean.!! Be nice, caring but aggressive we love you good luck!! cheering for you.
I WAS REALLY OFFENDED BY THE COMMENT "SALOME" MADE ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE BEING THE ONLY ONES WHO WEAR WEAVES!GIVE ME A BREAK! WHETHER YOU REALIZE IT OR NOT "SALOME",WEAVES WERE FIRST CREATED & WORN BY CAUCASIAN FEMALES! THERE WAS A TIME WHEN BLACK WOMEN DID NOT HAVE A CLUE ABOUT WHAT A "WEAVE" WAS!WE WERE FINE WITH OUR HAIR TEXTURE & STYLES UNTIL SOCIETY PUT THE STIGMA OUT THAT OUR HAIR SHOULD BE MORE LIKE OUR WHITE FEMALE COUNTER-PARTS! I BELIEVE YOU STILL HAVE ALOT OF GROWING-UP TO DO SO THAT YOU CAN BE MORE SENSITIVE & POLITICALLY CORRECT TO OTHER RACES OF PEOPLE BESIDES YOURSELF!
A BLACK WOMAN WHO HAS LONG HAIR & HAS NEVER WORN A WEAVE.
although you do not have to be beautiful to be a super model and you are by no stretch of the imagination fat..i do find you to be rather manipulative. Im obviously the only person that sees this i guess. you are working the judges and the audience with your underdog stance and constant whining..but it seems to be working for you.
Salome, You rock and are the reason I watch the show. Its so nice to see that you have come further than the stick-figure with the mean attitude. Today, men and women want to see Models that look real and healthy, you are that image. It's so refreshing to see. As far as the judges and your "one look", try sitting in front of a mirror and expressing different emotions with your face and body language. See what works for you, be familiar with your many looks so that when a photographer says they want "this" kind of look, You got it. You will succeed, you have it in you.
I am extremely upset that you have been eliminated. The judges on this show are idiots. Sandhurst should have been gone he is the worst model ever!! He is unattractive, has no facial expression and only knows one pose. Mountaha being the last girl standing is an insult to the other girls on the show. She is butt ugly and how the hell she ever made it onto the show to begin with is beyond my wildest imagination. The designers don't like her look. You have won 5 of 11 photoshoots shouldn't that be sending a message to the judges that maybe anorexia models are not what they are looking for!!! Just keep your head up and continue to pursue your dream of being a model. You are extremely beautiful. The prettiest of all the girls on the show. You will be a model I know it. At this point I am giving my vote to Brandon or Jonathon. They at least are attractive. The other to ugly ducklings need to go bye bye.
Salome, you're more beautiful than any other models this year. If I were to do a photoshoot or a show, I would hire you! Keep working on your walk! I know great success awaits you. I was disappointed with the judges as well. Sandhurst should have been eliminated, not you.
Never fear, you will not be back at Starbucks very long. If one of the top 5 booking Agencies for Print (and later runway...just work, it will come) doesn't seek you out and scoop you up, I'll eat my hat. There is something truly brave (considering the obstacles to get this far for you) and you carry yourself with grace (unlike Amanda, and that was her downfall I think, she has no authentic class about her) that these qualities read on camera, and with you, they come forth openly and it makes you all the more beautiful. I give it one month before you have offers for a contract and real work. I know it.
Salome, you are going to be a model, and a very successful one at that. Don't give into the "heroine chic" look that is so outdated and sick. Victoria's Secret models and swimsuit models aren't stick thin, they have curves and real women's bodies. They look healthy and beautiful like you. You have an angelic face and a beautiful ethereal body, and you photograph exquisitely. I can't understand how you could win so many photo shoots and still be eliminated. You are tall and elegant and have a bright future ahead of you. Rock on!
Don't give up Salome. I think you have a great body and could make it as a model. You just really need to work on that walk.
Salome, You should still be in there and you are HOT!
The judges suck! That Peru guy is a clown AND dresses like one, what an idiot! The show turned out to be a joke because of rotten judging.
Don't change a thing, you have a great look.
The show was not the same without you!! I am shocked that the judges (and the fashion industry) are still gunning for bone skinny people. I admire your courage and hope you continue to pursue your dreams and also find a balance with being a menonite. You can STILL be a great model... supermodel or otherwise..
SALOME !!! I almost cried when they let you go !! I was a very BIG Fan of yours !!! What were these judges thinking. I have never seen someone who has won so many challenges be let go !! It is just WRONG but I know that you will be SUCCESSFUL and a GREAT MODEL !! This show is just not the same without you and you were always smiling. I sincerely wish you the best for your future and God Bless you !!
It seems as though this season, the judges were harder on the girls than the boys. They gave countless chances to dull Colin and now the Bland One - Branden.
Your face was a dream chosen by most photographers as their favorite model. Good for you. That said, a model must be able to fit the designer duds and walk the runway without notice to their bodies. Your walk has always irked me. It should have floated by, not look like a sack of loose potatoes moving all over the place. You may be unable to correct this problem. So try to be just a face model. Certainly, there is a place for your gorgeous face... Good Luck!
I have never posted on any kind of blog, but I felt compelled to after seeing you sent home. You have got it all going on...face, body, spirit. I may never watch that show again. You rock. You'll make it. Maybe you should see Tyra and try to be America's Next Top Model. She loves a little booty and she loves spunk. Seems to care about the girls, too. I'd give anything to see you in that competition, too! So much fun. Wish you well.
Sad, sad, sad! I wanted you to win. You kept improving and growing more stunning by the week. Alas. Plus, you were always a good person, not creepy and mean about your competitors. (And it was really fun watching you grasp the new world you'd entered after growing up Menonite!)
I wish you a wonderful life and may good fortune come to you in all the ways you'd love it to. You've added to my life experience, and I hope in some small way my positive thoughts add to yours.
Congratuations on your accomplishments during the show. You are stunning! As a native of your hometown area, I was so proud to watch you every week. Altamont, TN - poplulation 1,000, it's just crazy. I've never seen anything come out of Altamont. Those who haven't appreciated a few of your comments do not understand how small town and rural your upbringing was. Believe me, the girl has a right to be proud of herself! Work on the walk. That is the only reason you are not in the finals. Look forward to seeing you on the cover of Vogue!
