Not Showing any Cards

Sandhurst explains how he hid his walk from the competitors during their practice.

March 24, 2009

Everyone finds themselves facing their insecurities head on at one point in time or another and the photo shoot for this week found me facing mine: my skin. Though I have not allowed these insecurities to affect my dreams and aspirations, they still exist like a nagging pebble in your shoe.

For this photo shoot we were asked to pose opposite a mirror emitting an emotion in your reflection. With my teen years filled with the joys of acne and still marked by their scars, my reflection to me exposed the flaws that I have so tried to overcome.

The shoot I must admit was uncomfortable at first but Indira and Michael made the process much easier for me. In the end I was able to deliver a shot that was strong, but did it fulfill the brief?

The catwalk for this week was entitled “Beautiful Freaks” and based on the brief as given to us by Nicole, we were told to tell a story with a beginning, middle, and an end. In the practice walk I decided not to show my creativity for this artistic walk due to the fact that the competition had begun to take notice. So I basically walked slowly down the catwalk turning my head from side to side. Michael seemed to be shocked and slightly irritated at my catwalk and in my mind I was like “Sorry but I’m not showing any cards tonight.” When we got back to the styling room I continued to practice a slow routine one that resembled all the rest; the art of diversion.

When I got on the runway I portrayed a hyperactively happy freak. I was having a great time until my chin piece fell off. Being the stage ham that I am I decided to incorporate it into my walk, and in the end it added a little more to my routine. In the end I was called to the top three for the third time. It felt great to be there. Personally, I felt I had missed the brief on the emotional aspect of the shoot, but at the same time a strong confident shot was revealed in addition to a crazy walk added a lil action to a slow catwalk.  n the end it was Shawn’s time to go.

I watched for the first time this evening. I'm pretty impressed by your achievements in your present life. The best of luck.

I hope you win, Sandhurst. You are better looking and much more talented than any of the other models.

hi i am a 9 year old who loves how you are model i think you are the bomb keep working it man go trinidad and tobago most of my family is from there.

Btw...

Sandhurst makes me want to move back to Trinidad to live. You are so very easy on the eyes, man. Refreshing! Keep up the good work, you have lots of fans here rooting for you.

Sandhurst, you are HANDS-DOWN the HOTTEST model on this show. For the very first time, I am actually watching this show from beginning to end because of you. Seriously, you are hot without even trying - just natural! Keep up the good work! Excellent! Two thumbs up!! Well done! The other model ain't got nothing on you man - I am truly a fan. For the record, I think the judges are unfair when you don't win the immunities but that's ok. This is a slam dunk win for you. Bravo to Sandhurst!

Sandhurst, you are amazing! You never fail to impress me. You are just so gorgeous! Wonderful body and skin. You definitely are a supermodel. Listen to the critiques, from professionals, that you recieve now to help improve. Think of them as just fun challenges to acheive. The critiques are just steps on a staircase to take you higher. You can go all the way to the top of the stairs, but that's your decision. Don't be intimidated by heights. You'll get there.

Your the BEST, keep it UP.
But remember the judges suggestions on your photo shoots. Other than that you know that your THE BEST, GREAT MODEL.
Your my favorite, maybe because your so good looking, have a rocking body, face structure and smile. I really hope and you win the contest.

Lost of hugs

Sanhurst
First I must say you have a very cool name. I also think you should win the contest. You're a very good looking guy. Your attitude is on point. You represent dark skin very well. I'm a dark skin guy and I use to want to model. I'm just a average guy but I wanted to do it because dark skin was not being recognized. I not against other skin tones. I think all skin tones are beautiful. I speaking on your skin being dark and awesome and your overall look is very nice. You are my favorite on here. I feel there are other good ones but you are my favorite . Good luck and enjoy yourself..

You have skills!!! I feel that the judges are giving you a bit of a hard time...not sure why, cause you are perfection!!! wait, maybe that's why they are being so hard on you! Keep your confidence!

I just tuned in, and I am very impressed! I wish you all the best. Win it all! And keep on writing.

you know you should have won every challenge so far... it is like the judges expect more from you than the others and hold you to a higher standard. not fair. but you are better...

I think you are just fine!!! I am pulling for you. You got what it takes to go all the way.

Just wanted you to know that you are doing great, and that fellow Tobagonians are rooting for you. Loved your runway walk... stop being so hard on your self we all have flaws, besides your skin looked great.
Don't be afraid to step off the ledge and take those risk.

You did a really fantastic runway. Your creativity shows, and it was smart of you to hold that card until the last minute.
Your skin is flawless now, and that counts for so much. You have a stronger and more perfect look than a lot of these models, so own it.
I love the fact that you're sticking to your guns as a dancer. As a dancer myself, I love watching how you subtly incorporate it into your shoots and your movements, even when it's not completely in-your-face obvious.
I admire you, and hope that you continue to grow in the competition!

You did a good runway today.Hang in there, your the winner.Jonathon is your biggest threat as he's good too, but he don't have that certain thing you do...star power. I think also talking about your skin issue will help you in the future as it is therapeutic ....you do have beautiful, healthy, flawless skin as far as I see, they have a picture of you close up (with your mouth slightly open) that is very sexy and no hint of keloids or any blemish. you gwaan my youth!
