The First Week

Tyson takes a look at all the models for this season.

We called Tyson and got his take on this past week's show. Here is what he had to say about each model.

mmas_blog_aryn.jpg

Aryn

Aryn got a little too emotional about her picture. In this business, you just can't get too emotional about your picture. If everyone loves it, then be happy with that. She knows her personal best and she felt she didn't achieve it, and I just don't want her to spend too much time dwelling on it. There are too many challenges coming up. As long as the photographer is happy with it, and the client is happy with it, then she should be fine.
mmas_blog_ben.jpg

Ben

Ben is very photogenic. I think with Ben, he needs to work on that walk. Because he's got that "I'm a prison guard" walk, and it scares me, so I want to get him away from that.
mmas_blog_casey.jpg

Casey

I don't know what to do about Casey's walk. It's so bad! Everyone else I worked with, I improved their walk one hundred percent, except for Casey and Dominic. What Casey has going on, Cory loves it, but I'm not a big fan yet of Casey. Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy as far as passion, but I'm not convinced yet he has what it takes to go all the way.
mmas_blog_dominic.jpg

Dominic

Dominic's walk is a little better.
mmas_blog_frankie.jpg

Frankie.

Frankie is a great guy, he's got a great personality, but I see him as maybe more of a TV guy. He might not really be high fashion, and I'm kind of surprised he's made it this far. He seems a little cocky
mmas_blog_holly.jpg

Holly

Holly's got the look, but to me, she's got to win me over. We have to change her hair. She's just got to do something with her hair.
mmas_blog_jacki.jpg

Jacki

Jacki disappointed me this week, everyone knows that. I need Jacki to get back. And her thing with the swimsuit thong, that really messed her up. She could be in the bottom three next week if she doesn't get herself together.
mmas_blog_jay.jpg

Jay

One hundred percent improvement on his walk. All I said to him was, "you're from the ATL, you're from Chicago. I know guys from your neighborhood who don't walk like you, okay? Give me that swagger." And you know what? He gave it to me.
mmas_blog_katy.jpg

Katy

Katy needs to tighten up her legs and lose that mid-section.
mmas_blog_perry.jpg

Perry

He did great last week. His photo shoot was strong, he put stuff into the fire and he improved on his walk, even though he had a broken foot, mind you. That guy could walk circles around everyone.
mmas_blog_ronnie.jpg

Ronnie

We're going to be good with him once he's less cheesy. We're going to get some good entertainment out of him in the next few weeks. His walking needs some help, but it's nothing we can't fix.
mmas_blog_sarah.jpg

Sarah

Sarah made some of the adjustments when she needed to, but overall I'm not sure her body type is right for this. The swimsuit and the runway kill her, but when she's in clothes she looks, to me, amazing. Today, when she had on skinny jeans and the wifebeater, you couldn't see the torso and the legs. But, I think, overall, she might be an actress.
mmas_blog_shannon.jpg

Shannon

Shannon's got to get rid of that walk that she thinks she's gotten down. She's got bad hips, so she's got to be aware that leaning back, with those hips, can mess her up. She's really got to make that adjustment. And her being six feet tall is not all that normal for our industry, because usually it's 5' 11'. She's not one of my favorites yet, but she can be worked with.
mmas_blog_stephanie_.jpg

Stephanie

Stephanie is too far in the back. She's quiet and we've spoken to her about it. We expect Stephanie to really step up, because she did really well in her photo shoot. She, to me, is my sleeper. She might turn around and win the whole thing. If she can get Jacki's walking skills, or Aryn's walking skills, we've got some big things going on.

BRAVOTV.COM: You rocked a bikini this week, Tyson.

I'm 37, and I can still put that bathing suit on. I told those kids, I'll be 67 and still put it on. I'm always going to be that. That's what a supermodel is: 67, 37, 17. If you're in any one of those age groups, and you're still able to take a look and lock it down.

Big Things in the Future

Sandhurst breaks down the finale and has words for his competitors.

It has come to this. Thirteen weeks of walking, posing, laughing, fighting, and more laughing has come to an end. It’s hard to look at the apartment the same way without the 13 other models in the house. Say what you want about anyone of them but they sure made the experience a lot of fun. Mountaha went home last night and I can’t help but feel as though she was robbed of an experience. Is Branden the more deserving of the two? That will be up for debate but definitely when you look at the competition I have to say I would have given the edge to Mountaha.

For our final photo shoot we were given the challenge of taking a great Polaroid shot by famed photographer Timothy Greensfield-Sanders. We were to pose for three images — a head shot, a full body, and a group shot. Working with Timothy was by far one of the coolest interactions that I had throughout this competition. He knows how to get what he wants out of his models and I really enjoyed working with him. After taking the head shot and waiting for it to develop, seeing the image just revealed to me how much I look like both of my parents. To me I took the entire experience more as a graduation or culmination of some sort and did not consider it to be a competitive challenge. To me, whoever was going to win the contract had already done so in the thirteen weeks that we had been here.

After the great day that was our final photo shoot we were sent off to a cover try with Cosmo magazine. This was incredible seeing that Cosmo’s circulation reaches more readers than most fashion and entertainment magazines in the world. Again we were placed in front of the lens of another famed fashion photographer. This time it was Marc Baptiste. I loved it. He is such an animated character which is great energy to thrive off of during a shoot.

Our final runway has come and though I am excited to finally hear the verdict I must admit it was extremely bittersweet for me. I had a blast throughout this entire experience. I met 15 incredible individuals and now it was about to be over. I basically did my usual walk on the runway and left it at that. Now was not the time to play with my walk. If the judges liked it then they did and if the judges hated it then oh well. At this point in the game it didn’t matter anymore. Of the 13 weeks we were in this competition I tied with Jonathan for the most weekly wins of three. I was in the top three 11 of 13 weeks and I was hailed as the king of the catwalk. I would say that was a victory in itself.

As we neared closer to the decision and each judge stated what they had to say and each mentor threw in their two cents, it was still unclear who was going to get the win. Was it going to be Jonathan the epitome of the male model, right height, right measurements or was it going to be Branden who certainly had youth on his side or was it going to be me “Mister Consistent.” Well apparently in a competition that seemed to be a two man race from the start between Jonathan and me, it is possible for a dark horse to snatch it at the end. Branden was the model that the judges felt they could make into a supermodel. I will be honest — I was confused by the decision. I was the only model to hear every critique firsthand, since I stood on stage for every panel except the second week, so from hearing what the judges said in the past it was hard to accept that they all of a sudden believed that Branden did the best in the entire competition.

However, as much as I question the decision I understand it. I had competed well in this competition and achieved a lot more during my time on the show and that sends a stronger message in my opinion to the industry. So as much as I want to be a sore loser I cannot help but say that I am proud of Branden and I really do wish him all the success in the world. I hope that with the doors that are going to be opened up to him that he also opens up his eyes and his mind even further and know that I will be there for him. To Jonathan, I know that only great things are on the horizon. I really am not afraid for him. He’s my boy and was my best friend throughout this entire experience and he will continue to be so after it. Finally, for me I would do this again in a heartbeat. I had the most amazing experience of my life competing against these 15 remarkable models and have learned a lesson from every one of them and as I said before, I am so grateful to have been given this gift. I refuse to say the cliché line that “This is not the last you will see of me” so I will say this: I see big things for myself in the future and I am confident in my ability to go after and achieve them.
