Proud and Privileged

Life in Miami isn't all glitz and glamour... Let Katrina explain.

July 13, 2009

As a native Miamian I am proud and privileged to express my candid thoughts regarding Miami Social.

I would like to begin by saying that there is much to love about life in ever-evolving and fascinating South Florida aside from its natural beauty and alluring atmosphere. Miami in particular is a bustling metropolis renowned for tourism, fashion and nightlife as well as a Mecca for international business.

The series follows seven of us - young professionals while navigating the waters of the Miami social scene. We are all smart, savvy business professionals who agree to disagree. Like all good friends, we have our share of eccentricities, impetuous and wayward characteristics, as well as occasional volatile disagreements. Of course you will see drama but you will also see individuals from all walks of life, cultures and beliefs that happen to enjoy each other’s company and above all respect the interesting melting pot we truly are. The first episode is a simple snapshot of our lives, yet later on as the series evolves the audience will be able to see the substance in the lives of each cast members. Ultimately we are survivors in a highly competitive, economically challenged era, blessed with the stimulus, splendor and climate of beautiful Miami.

To jennifer from fl,

It is sad that you are going through what you are going through but that is not a reason for you to try to make other people feel bad for their life. This is a television show and katrina's reality. If you don't like what you see then don't watch. It's not her fault that you live pay check to pay check, you are not the only one who does. In this world there are the haves and the have-nots. If she has the money to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on anything, good for her. She worked for it and has been able to keep it in this economy. What you should probably do is pray that your situation gets better and stop criticizing others. BTW....Katrina love your style.

Katrina you are just beautiful!! Inside and Out!!!

Hey Katrina,

Just want to drop you all a line to say that this has been the most wonderful depiction of the Miami lifestyle.
Everyone here strives to work hard AND play hard. As a native Miami girl, from Little Havana, I have incredible drive to work to provide for myself, my family, and my lifestyle. It's the work ethic that's been instilled in me since very early in life.

And even the fact that the economy isn't going so well right now (but trust me, it will bounce back and we will be all the better for it, considering I have become quite the recessionista :) ), you all still demonstrate the ambition to roll with the punches and keep working hard in spite of it!

Anyways, kudos to you all...

Katrina,

I was wondering where you got the coffee table in your house in episode 3 from. I am an intertior decorator and I think the coffee table is great.

Thanks!

Ps I think you are the star of the show.

Katrina, I wanted to know what shoes you were wearing at the beginning of the 7/28 episode when you were showing the proporties to your client. They were round toe nude pumps and I loved them!

You b=should be so lucky you are blessed with health & wealth... I am 37 single, worked from age 16.. am 37 now with a dabilitating disease..live pay check to pay check............ This is reality, not you nor your show. I didnt come from money & have struggled all my life & in 2003 was diagnosed witha chrinic illness. I watch the show & laugh. You all dont know how normal people live. The struggles we go thru........... Be grateful you have the life you have...it can end or be changed instanley like mine did. The next time you spend hundreds/thousands on clothes... think of those who cant even pay rent & are working 3 jobs!!!!!!

Katrina-

I also live in Miami, well technically Bal Harbour, a little slower paced than South Beach. But when I saw that Bravo was doing a show about Miami I was not looking forward to how my city would be portrayed. However, I have been somewhat pleasantly surprised. I think you do your home city proud with your entrepreneurial spirit and positive attitude, shows that a woman really can be more than just a nice body. Also, I am a couples counselor, and I am impressed with the way you and Ben seemed to approach your relationship ending, with kindness and rationale. Qualities I do not always see in couples struggling through what you guys are. Good luck with all your do.

A divorce wow all i have to say is some people dont appreciate what they have until its gone, hopefully 10 years from now your not regretting your decision you should just pass Ben off to someone else he seems like a hard catch just to good to be true

Katrina- to say that the "rich" have been recession proof as far as real estate is concerned is a bit of a stretch don't you think. Example-I think I just read that Shaq, who once had his Star Island "dump" (Ive seen the inside) on the market for 35 million, took a bath on that and lost his shirt- he paid 18.8 million and finally sold for 16 million. Tell me how that is recession proof.........stop kidding yourself. 5-6 years ago, every girl in Miami was a Real Estate broker when it was easy sittting in a sales office surfing the internet all day and people were buying condos's sight unseen pre-construction. Now, god forbid these girls actually have to get in there car and work and show 5,6,7 units before a buyer even makes an offer. Suddenly, yourself and only a handful of other hard-working women are still in the real Estate business. I admire your hard-work and success but be honest with your blog. The recession has hit people from every walk of life especially in Miami. Ask Bernie Kosar

Katrina:

Great show! I watched it for the first time last night and must say it's an interesting cast. I travel extensively throughout the world and can say that I miss South Florida no matter where I am or where I've been. Although at times Miami seems toxic...its beauty and atmosphere is alluring and nothing feels better than being at home. As a realtor/mortgage broker living and working in Ft. Lauderdale.... in these challenging times I commend your positive upbeat spirit.... As for your relatioship with Ben as portrayed on the show...work is important..it is not what defines you. You seem to have a great relationship/connection with Ben...that is what's important.... Balance in life is crucial... Good luck on the show and continued success.

I grew up in Miami and now live in Ft. Lauderdale and can truly say

Katrina-
You are such a great role model and I am so excited about the show. Please tell us more about your bracelets. I love jewlery that has meaning and purpose and I would love to learn how to make them. You have a great sense of style that is unique and gorgeous and I love the bracelets.

Katrina,

I admire you and you a real inspiration to me. I see you a young latina and very successful. I strive to be more like you and I appreciate watching you. I know that there is still hope for me to accomplish all that I want too in life and even as a single mother I will be able to do that. Thank you

Marcia

Hello Katrina!

with all due respect your husband is a hottie! 13 Years thats alot of history there. Are you sure you want to let that go? I get and understand the work. i have been there myself, but honestly when all is said and done at the end of the day, what do you value most? I heard you say family, he is your family and it appears that he is the closest person to you and knows you better than anyone else. Don't want to make you feel bad!!You just make a beautiful couple. I hope things work out for the best!!!

I just wanted to ask what kind of makeup do you wear? It looks Great!!

I love you and Ben!! I hope you stay together!!!

I used to live in Miami and after growing up there for 18 years, I kind of have to say, I was ready to get out. It's true that it is portrayed as this non-stop party and endless fashion statement- which in all honesty, it pretty much kind of 100% is but if you don't let it go to your head and you set goals for yourself : which you clearly do...you can really make BANK DOWN THERE!

It is definitely empowering to watch you on the show - that one moment though, where your ex-husband calls you out on the price per square foot is quite comical. I kind of think he might not be the worst candidate for your love life : he isn't afraid to stand up to you. That's a good thing for someone with the type of gumption and power that you possess!

Well, I cannot wait for the next episode and thank you for offering a well thought-out blog entry. You can tell you have a strong analytical ability and you know how to market Miami to your advantage: afterall you do sell real estate. ;-)

Were you on Millionaire Matchmaker?

Katrina -

You are the epitome of perfection. How do you do so much in 24 hours - now I understand your statement.
Good Luck.

KATRINA-
Gurl you are by far my fav person on the show ! you are the most put together and you have a good head on your shoulders; I see a bright future for you....

I LOVE ALL your bracelets, where do you get them from ?

yes, Big Brother for Hardy and the Apprentice for Katrina -
how did this happen????

Congrats on the show, you look fabulous as always!

Katrina:

What sunglasses are you wearing on the 1st episode of Miami Social? They were really flattering.

I second the question about your diet and fitness tips to get/stay in shape. You are in amazing shape girl!

Katrina-you are my fav. You seem like the most put together and of course smart. Can't wait to see what happends with you during the season. And wow, in shape. Inspriring, i'm trying lunges now!

Katrina- you are by far a favorite of not only us veiwers but of your friends in Miami! I appreciate how well spoken and well written you are, its a refreshing change. Thanks for being an inspiration!

Hello Kat i to know how it is to work all dal long with your significant other it is not easy, i found myself many atime asking the lord for patience. Keep your head up and move look for the silver linig ,thats what i do.

Ah- Katrina was on the Apprentice! I thought you looked familiar but I couldn't figure out why. Hardy was on Big Brother several years ago, too!

What do you do to stay in shape? Do you have a certain diet?

You are awesome, Katrina!

You seem like a really nice and intelligent person who has her act together. Why on earth would you want to risk your reputation and put your personal business (divorce, etc.) on national TV. Not all, but most in your circle seem dysfunctional, you don't, but as they say "birds that flock together" and "guilt (dysfunction) by assocation". You must have seen other reality shows, when all is said and done - you're left looking unfavorable in many ways - and once your business is out there on the internet -- there is no taking it back. I can't believe it's going to be worth it for you.

Katrina,

I feel like you are the only "real" person on the show, as you have a legitimate career. How are you dealing with the turned real estate economy and do you have a backup? Enjoy watching you, and appreciate your priorities especially in a town like Miami!

You have a fan, Katrina, thanks for promoting healthy, independent women!

Katrina:
I was saddened to see at the end of the episode that you and your husband had decided to seperate. There's an old saying which states: Never get so busy making a living that you neglect to make a life. Money and material objects may come and go, but can always be replaced. People can't. At the risk of being repetitive (and sounding like a cliche), here's another great saying: No one ever laid on their death bed and wished they had spent more time with their business. Just think about it, you seem like a wonderful woman who deserves all the best. Good Luck in all of your endeavors!

I agree with El. Your blog is by far the most well written of any blog on this entire site!

her apprenctice appearance is mentioned in her bio. I don't think it is a secret like several of you think.

why didnt she mention the earlier tv she had done...is she ashamed of being on the apprentice...or is it some sort of contractual thing that she cant talk about...

i knew she was from the apprentice...

KAtrina you are THE BEST!
More beatutiful! More inteligent! More interesting! than any of the others, and your elegance is amazing! YOU GO GIRL!!!!

Wow! This is the most intelligent, well written, motivating blog I have ever read on this site. From watching the show you definitely had that something that intrigues the viewer. Your light shines from within. Best of luck to you on all of your endeavors, and I look forward to seeing you on the show and reading your blog post :)

Please continue with your production goals!
You deserve every opportunity that comes your way.
Each time we've met you've sincerely given your attention and concern (when the world knew it was not on your schedule).

Katrina -
You are such an inspiration! I would love to see you host a TV show and open the doors to all the women out there who are stifled in one way or another.

GO GIRL!

Hi Katrina! You are definitely my favorite on the show! You are an inspiration and a very strong woman. You are very intelligent and carry yourself with elegance. You seem very humble and very down-to-earth! Such a classy person... I live in Miami and I know how the Miami lifestyle can be. It can be very toxic sometimes... Your husband seems like the perfect man, too bad that you are getting divorced. It seems like in episode two you are regretting the decision... you never know in the future! I can't wait for the second episode. Best of luck in your life and hopefully we hear more from you!!
~Ciao

I think Katrina is super successful and an inspiration to women in terms of drive, chutzpah, determination, and intelligence. Do I think she is beautiful and gorgeous...no. I think too much emphasis is placed on the looks of the people on this show, when indeed there is only one really good looking person on it. These people would not be considered so hot in NYC or LA!

hey katrina love the new show..r u still with your hubby...

You are very Sobe style but at the same time you seem the most real and humble person on the show. I wish you the best of luck and success on your career and life.

Hi Katrina, saw the show last night and found the show to be very interesting. Of course your on point with your comments and look forward to seeing what transpires with your friends. I do recall seeing you on the apprentice and you did very well on that show. Wish you the best of luck with you and your husband! Hopefully you will rethink the divorce issue!!!

Hi Katrina,
I just wanted to say that you're super gorgeous, and wanted to ask where you get all your bracelets and accessories???? luv them

wasnt she on the apprentice?

Katrina was on The Apprentice!

I think you inspire women! I really hope things work out with you and your husband...thank you for being so real!

Hmm... wasn't Katrina on another reality TV show a few years ago?

I'm glad you're on the show. I think you have an intelligent and balanced perspective on life.
