I am proud of the things I have achieved in life and I am REALLY lucky to have had an opportunity to meet amazing people on my life path, friends that were a tremendous help and inspiration for me. I've come a long way from Saint-Petersburg, Russia where my whole family moved into one room in a three room communal apartment living when I was 5 and mom brought all her family from an old Russian town so her kids would grow up surrounded by culture, theaters and beautiful architecture. And no I am not talking about the show itself as a huge achievement. I had experience surviving on my own with no friends, family or any kind of support system in a country with foreign language and with no equal education or job to set me off on an ideal path right away. All that had made me who I am today, and what you see on the show is what you get.
Now being 33 I have arrived to the point where I realize how important it is to be happy on an everyday basis, and how possible it is! Importance of high-end long term goals in undeniable, but I wish I could inject into everyone who I see without a smile on their faces or who's shoulders are down under the life's heaviness with the understanding that I have in every cell of my being , that we already have everything we need for happiness when we are born. We have legs to walk, arms to hug people we love, fingers to touch, eyes to see, ears to listen, and heart to feel. I have gone to understand beauty comes in all shapes and forms. And I have grown up to accept myself the way I am.
My daughter is going through this period right now. You know what teenagers are like :) Never like what they have and always want to be what they are not :) Hopefully she will arrive to the point of loving herself for who she is far faster then I have :)
Well written Maria. Even though some of us have always known you have a job, it is common for people to look at other people in Miami and go, "He/She must be either a.) married to a rich person, b.) a rich European vacationing in Miami or c.) a trust fund baby having fun playing all day in Miami. And no, you're not the only one guilty of this one.
Keep it up.
Your comments here are very insightful regarding your part in the show. When did you move to Miami? I plan to continue watching the show but would like to know more about how you decided to do it. I have also noticed a definite Eastern European vibe in the casting. Of the main characters seen so far, three, you, Lina, and Ariel are Eastern European. Was that a conscious decision by Bravo or was it just a random occurrence.
My overall impression so far is that the show does not shed a very favorable light on the characters but it is still early. It seems that this show represents only a small part of Miami, however. I can say one thing already, your passion for your work and care for your daughter definitely come through.
love the show! I'm with you- I cannot stop watching the first episode! i cannot get enough. im hooked :) You have created a wonderful life for you and your daughter. Best of luck to you and your castmates.
I love you on the show , you and michael are definately my favorites. I'm currently in college to become and art director -- will we be seeing more into your high paced high fashion world???
Love your blog. A writer AND photographer! You got "it" girl! Keep on your positive track and stay strong and proud.
Love the show and you are great, Maria.. Love the visual of Miami....in the sweeping scenes and the great variation of the shots. Show more of your photo sessions and the real work you do. People need to see the talent you have behind the camera.
I am married to a Russian from St. Petersburg who didn't arrive to the US until he was 21 and we now live in South Florida. We wondered if you have ever shopped at the Russian grocery store named Gastronom (Sunny Isles). We go once a month to get all of his favorites and of course tea- nothing like Russian tea! I sincerely hope your daughter is adjusting well to school and and we wish the best for you both. Liz and Yuriy Kovarskiy
You get em Maria. I love you:}. Keep letting us know what the real truths are. You are so beautiful, smart and a great personality. When I grow up I hope I can be as strong a woman as you. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through the show. I watch it and my worlds problems just go away. Can wait till next week to watch. God bless.
Oh I forgot, when I was watching the spa scene I thought, hmmm what would I do, I usually don't wear any undies either. I would have been so embarassed. And, I am on disability for my shoulder right now so I watch the show every single time it's on, middle of the day and middle of the night. Altogether probably 15 times, episode 1 and 2. I could probably recite the words.:}
Maria, your so awsume. You And Micheal are my favorites of the show:) I hope when I grow up, I can be as great a photograoher as you. Your hilarious. Even more when your with Micheal:)
Keep It Up.
MARIA! you are my favorite, so beautiful and true. By the way I love your style, the lipstick you wear in your interview is gorgeous! I never had an interest in Miami but after seeing you I am headed for a trip. I especially loved seeing you go to the meeting with Ariel and just being honest about your intentions, you have a beautiful daughter to think of first and foremost. Your honesty is so brave and inspiring. Maria contact me if you want to exchange photos. I am also a hot mama raising a daughter alone. I promise you won't be disappointed!:D
