Watching the premiere episode of Million Dollar Decorators I could not help but think people watching would for certain think Nathan, Mary, Martyn, Kathryn, and myself must all be the most self-centered, pretentious people on TV. But truth be told I know for sure we all love what we do and work really hard at it 24/7!
In our field we are hired because we have a point of view, an opinion (and we all have plenty of them), but the results show in our work. The quality of what we do is obvious because we seek out the best of the best.
What I loved in this episode and what was most interesting to me is the staff and offices of my castmates. I only know how things work in my own office, so it is fascinating to see other people that do the same thing I do in their own individual environments and in their own inimitable way. There's such a nice contrast between us. You would never confuse my office for Mary's or Martyn's, and yet we all have the same obstacles to deal with on all our projects.
My first scene with Ross and I washing our dog Chessie prior to leaving for the office in the morning pretty much sums up our life -- we get up early and I always have at least one or two chores to do. . .
Kathryn's birthday party was such fun. She throws some of the best parties in L.A. There was plenty of hilarious conversation you didn't get to see at the dinner table. Any time you get seated next to Mary McDonald at dinner you know you are going to have a fantastic time. Oh. . .and the guacamole was delicious although who knows what was in it. Hey Otis, wash your hands next time you make make a batch!
I'm looking forward to seeing more great design as the season progresses. I know there are a couple of great projects on the show, so it's going to be exciting to see them all develop.
Jeff- I really enjoyed watching the premiere of the show, and I am excited to get to see how ideas flourish and designs implemented by some of the best in the industry. I have always enjoyed seeing your work and the diversity, yet the character of yours that carries through it. As you said, some of you came across as pretentious (and let's face it, you are being too kind when you said ALL are not when some are self-admittedly are lol) but I think that's a person's make up and own choice, and each is responsible for how they carry themselves. You certainly didn't come across like you one! You guys are fun and awesome, and I look forward to seeing more of your talent and how your personality reflects on your work. Maybe one day when I can afford it, I will visit and get myself a treat from your own work. Cheers
Love your warm sense of style Jeffrey... I very much look forward to watching you work this season!
You came across as very humble and likeable. I can't say the same for the others. I agree that most of the designers came across as arrogant, even vulgar. It takes more than just millions of dollars to be a great designer. I'm so embarassed for them.
Hi Jeff..loved your HOME..it was stunning and oh so inviting without ever saying the word "darhling!"..I loved your relationship w/Ross and how you two seem so happy together. I just enjoyed everything about it, and I think your designs are genius..thanx for sharing with everyone.. Peace
Happy? I don't think Jeff and Ross seem happy at all... all I see is a sugardaddy who wants some arm candy and a celebrity-wannabe (Ross) who's constantly trying to upstage Jeff, so desperately trying to make the veiwers think he's far more than arm candy. Sorry, but that's what I got out of this episode.
