Mary McDonald

My Dolly

Mary discusses her love for Nathan and what she found most riveting this week.

Jun 28, 2011

Jeffery and Ross have a bit of a tiff, which somehow Jeffrey thinks will be resolved by picking up a waiter. I have never understood that male mentality, but then again I am a woman who likes chick flicks so why would I? By the way who is Jeffrey going to find more handsome than Ross? Ross is a Breck girl so they should just work it out next time. They are much more calm fighters than I, I might add. I am an outburst kind of gal. . .I guess our design styles match our personalities!

As for our dear dear Martyn, who is one of the loveliest and fun men on the planet, of course he is doing Daisy Fuentes house. Daisy is quite thin I might add. Perhaps, thinner than I recall. Whatever she is selling on those infomercials I am running out to buy. Although I saw that Patti Stanger on one of those for something, and I bought it and they won't stop sending it to me. I have yet to try it, but Patti just looked sooooooooo good. I am going to get online and check out Daisy's spiel. Did you not love that Martyn blew that photo up? I love to do that myself, and did it for the entry at the Luxe Sunset hotel in LA from a small picture of shells. It became eight feet high and looks fab. Love that Martyn!

Well stay tuned for next week. You won't believe my new client. Really.

Thank you all for watching.

I really was not impressed with Martyn's 'wall art' at Daisy's. My interpretation was Daisy wanted that wall painted as such and have an actual chandelier hung. I would DIE if I paid a decorator and they hung a photocopy on the wall!! Better luck next time!

I'm curious...you are hired to decorate and the client isn't allowed to give their input? You come off as pretty arrogant and obnoxious. You may be an expert in your field of decorating, however, if I hired you, I have every right to give my input. I hired you, not the other way around. Perhaps your clients don't mind your behavior....I'm going to keep watching and hoping you become a little nicer because your present attitude is not attractive at all. Thank goodness there are alot more "nicer, kinder, and humble and "professional" decorators" that appreciate the business being sent their way and show good taste when addressbg the client.

Mary.. I adore you! My new mantra is " what would Mary do?" Can't wait to see more of your rooms... absolutely gorgeous!!!

You are hilliarous! Ive never understood why people hire interior designers if they don't wont to listen to what they say! You hired them because you couldnt get the job done so let them do the job...geez! Love watching you :)

Mary!! I think I have found a kindred spirit on TV! I'm an Architect who designs her own interiors for residential and commercial buildings....I know where you are coming from. People hire us to interpret what they want in a space based on our version of good taste, great style, and throwing in some of our flair. I recently had to FIRE my own client for taking my ideas and convoluting them so much, the city won't even approve what he built, not to mention that sub contractors won't work until said former client pays up front!! Then he had the audacity to tell me he had hired another Architect to change something he didn't want to pay me to change!!! So my firm contacted my lawyer, and we fired him, and got out of the contract with him owing us money!! It was a Houston Oil Guy who let his wife tell him what he liked....think the equivalent of silicone breasts, lots of big bleached hair, pink porno lipstick, leopard print tights, and like you know fake lashes....girl I feel you and you are very brave in staying true to your design style. I am Karen Walker, Texas style, and with a license to do damage! Keep at it girl

Mary you are so funny!! I'm an Architect in Houston and I totally know where you are coming from. People hire us to help them make their places of work, home, and fun, sylish and classy.....Most people can't envision the next 5 minutes of their life, much less what their surroundings! You are a kindred spirit and would fit in here in Houston.....Everything is so large here. Your design style is beautiful and I love how you put so many different things together to complete each composition....your assistant needs to do as you say or she should go out on her own.....it's your vision, not hers. BTW I am known as the Karen Walker of the South.....I get stopped at least once a day and people ask me if I ever have seen Will and Grace!! Ha! Is it true KW was based on you? If so, what a hoot!! Anyway, I'm a fan and I'm sure to steal some of your ideas.....

Wow! Your people skills could use some work. For exple when Kendra told you she was getting divorced, you never even said, "Im sorry"!! You just went on & on about what a tragedy it was that she was selling 'your' house! I'm curious as to why you didn't buy it? You assume that your clients have no taste & allow them no input. A good decorator takes the clients wants, needs, lifestyle, family & taste into consideration. You, on the other hand, just seem to want the client to shut up so you can turn their home into "you". Which is fine for YOUR home, but not everyone likes the same things you do. People want their homes to reflect their selves. I'm assuming you don't alienate most of your clients because many are too busy to give you their input, they just want things "taken care of" & because you intimidate & bully many into allowing you to decorate their homes with a total disregard for them.

Nathan is the cutest, but you are by far the most gorgeous, glamorous and highly sophisticated. I love your work, and love your style, watching you move about in the shops and selecting pieces for your clients. This is just a great show, and I love the glimpse into your world. Thank you!
