6 Ways to Stay in the Exclusive Bird Streets of Hollywood Hills
Buy or rent your way to the preferred perch of movie stars and moguls.
Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles fans hear frequent chirping on the show about the so-called "Bird Streets." What on earth are the agents talking about?
Well, they're referring to an exclusive part of the Hollywood Hills just above the Sunset Strip where all the streets are named after winged creatures. The Bird Streets have been home to a motley crew of celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio, Dr. Dre, Jodie Foster, Jennifer Aniston, and Larry Flynt. Although there are only a few hundred properties in the enclave, there are a few ways to get in there right now if you're looking for a taste of how celebrities perch over sweeping views. Take a look at some listings you can buy right now as pieds-a-terre — or at least rent for your next vacay... and get yourself a piece of the Bird Street action, if only for a few days!
Owning this brand new modern estate on Marcheeta Place would be the best way to show you've arrived in the Bird Streets. You neighbors have probably been flapping about your 70-foot marble privacy wall and the fact that you've got the first split-level swimming pool in the hood, but let 'em keep peeping. This baby's all yours. Asking price: $25.5 M
MDLLA super agent Josh Altman specializes in Bird Streets properties and often has listings on his website. Right now, he's got a co-listing representing a six-bedroom, eight-bathroom contemporary mansion on Swallow Drive. Wow factors include a movie theater, glass enclosed wine cellar, four fireplaces, and an infinity pool with a 37-foot fire feature. There's even a glam video for it that will put you in immediate real estate lust. Asking price: $16.995 M
Look no further than Oriole Drive for "an entertainer's dream home," another Altman listing. It's perfect for your art collection — the walls were built for a connoisseur — and features a saltwater pool and spa. It costs merely pocket change compared to some of the others on the list, and there's also an option to lease. Asking price: $4.695 M
The Altman Brothers have an exclusive pocket listing for a five-bedroom, five-bathroom property on an unnamed Bird Street. If you're looking for a gated estate where you can steam or soak with dramatic views of L.A. after you work out in your private gym, pop a few bottles in your wine cellar, and watch movies in your home theater, you'll have to holler at them. Asking price: $7M
Likewise, this Airbnb listing doesn't let you know exactly which Bird Street it's sitting on, probably because the owners are there most of the time and only rent it out over overnights at select times of year (including right now). But you do know that you and five of your friends can discover how it feels to stay in a three bedroom with an outdoor barbecue area and a pool that stays at 82 degrees. Asking price: $1,600/night
Right now, Airbnb has another Bird Streets option, this one a bit more diminutive at 2,750 square feet, a kid friendly hideaway with a pool, spa and a nice shaded outdoor area for lazing. Asking price: $995/night
