If you're trying to figure out if you should ask your wedding party to travel for your upcoming "I dos," that choice may not be easy to make. Let's face it, destination weddings can be a lot of work. So we decided to ask Million Dollar Listing New York newlyweds Ryan Serhant and Emilia Bechrakis if getting away to get married is smart for your upcoming nuptials.
The short answer is "yes" — according to the pair, it's totally worth it! But it's not as easy as just sending out invites and hopping on a plane.
"Definitely do it," Emilia shared just months after she and Ryan married in Greece. "The destination wedding, the beauty of it, at least for us, was that our family and friends bonded because they had to spend all this time together. And it's not just one night so you get to spend time with all of your guests throughout the days that you have them. You don't feel like you have this rush."
The couple's wedding trip took place over the course of a week in Corfu, but, she notes, three days feels like a good amount of time for an event of this nature. She said, "You make it a little buddymoon."
Oh, and her new hubby adds there are a few more details you should keep in mind. "Plan in advance and hire a wedding planner from the get go, just because that's their job and that's why they exist," he said. "And hire a local wedding planner as well, because your wedding planner in New York or L.A. or wherever you are isn't necessarily going to know the person who delivers the flowers on your tiny island wherever it is you're going to do this, and to handle all the coordination, the plane tickets, the flights, the hotels, everything builds up. But it's a very, very cool experience."
