Now that we know Prince died without a known will, the fate of his famed Minnesota estate and recording studio, Paisley Park, is up in the air. But if you need to get your hands on a fine piece of property that belonged to one of the greatest music legends in history, here’s your opportunity — and you’ll have to travel abroad to do it.
The real estate agency Engels & Völkers reported after Prince died last week that his former Spanish residence, located in Marbella, Andalusia, is still up for sale. He originally acquired it in 1998 as a wedding gift for his then wife, Mayte Garcia. It’s on the market for €5.3 million, or nearly $6 million in U.S. equivalent.
A spokeswoman from the agency told Spain's English-language publication The Local that his death sparked more interest in the home from potential buyers who know and care about the man who once lived there — but that the current owner is not making any quick moves to sell in a hurry.
So what does a manse befitting music royalty look like? Well, the home, according to its real estate listing, is a “completely renovated stunning villa, constructed with the most beautiful materials… situated just west of Marbella,” and “enjoys impressive sea, mountains, valley, and golf views.”
At the entrance is a colonial-style double staircase with white marble balustrades leading down to the grand entrance hall with chandelier. There’s an elegant dining hall with a linked living room and breakfast room, all with panoramic windows.
Upstairs are three more huge bedroom suites with marble bathrooms and private terraces with sweeping views over the valley and blue Mediterranean Sea beyond. Ahhhhh. And the villa’s vast master suite spreads over two levels.
Befitting a huge celebrity, cypress trees and a boundary wall create total privacy and security.
Gardens include subtropical trees, plus a tennis court, outdoor heated pool, and tons of terraces with lighting for parties at night — or all night, if you party like Prince.
