Giving Back

Tara loves Dallas' focus on fundraising.

Thank goodness the temperature in Dallas finally dipped below 110 degrees so I can finally sit by the pool to write my blog.

In tonight’s episode, you can see the relationship between creativity and charity fundraising events. So, before I talk about what happened in the show, let me give you a little background about my true passion -- Paws in the City animal rescue.

While our mission is to rescue dogs and cats from Dallas Animal Services before they are euthanized, we also take in strays and hardship cases. So in this tough economy we’re seeing a lot of dogs and cats being surrendered to Paws In The City, because their owners simply cannot afford the expense. Therefore, in these cases where the owners are not to blame, we place the pets in foster homes where they wait while our volunteers work tirelessly to find them a permanent home.

Let me brag a second about our volunteers. They are simply the best teammates that anyone could ever have. Not one person at Paws in the City receives any salary or payment. Instead, our charity is a 100% all-volunteer group, and each person gives her heart and soul to this incredible cause. Since there is strength in numbers, more volunteers equal more rescued animals. So to our volunteers I say thank you; and to those who want to volunteer, I say give us a call!

OK, let’s talk about tonight’s Most Eligible Dallas. In this episode, you can see how creativity is an absolute must when trying to raise charitable contributions. Since Dallas has so many charity events, sometimes it’s necessary to be “over the top” to stand out in the crowd. That’s why Paws in the City is known for our fabulous fundraisers that keep people anxiously awaiting our next event. But believe me, it is a ton of work to make the events run smoothly and that’s why I couldn’t be prouder of Drew

Drew, Drew, Drew…he was so awesome with the fundraiser. He has worked so hard and dedicated so much time to DIFFA, which is such an important organization in Dallas. Its mission to fight HIV/AIDS speaks for itself. Despite its important cause, DIFFA knows how to throw a spectacular event, and Courtney and I were honored to attend (not to mention how fun it was getting ready!).

One of the things I love most about Dallas is that it is such a philanthropic city. There are hundreds of charity events during the year. I'm so proud that I live in a city that dedicates so much to giving back.
