Did you know that there are over 9.9 million women-owned companies in the United States? Or that internationally, one-third of all entrepreneurs are women? Now that you know, honestly, how many of these companies can you name?
We should be supporting ladies all year round, but we thought it wouldn’t hurt, for the sake of International Women's Day (March 8), to highlight and advocate for some of our favorite women-owned businesses. These women are changing the world — whether they actively seek to do so or not.
Ahead, you'll find a list of some of our favorite female-owned brands in the categories of fashion, beauty, and home. (You can check out each shop by clicking on its name.) Consider this list evidence that the the future, my friends, is indeed female.

The Brave Collection: Each piece of jewelry is hand-carved and -woven in Cambodia by women using traditional techniques and materials. If that hasn’t sold you, how about this: 10 percent of this brand's profits are donated to fight human trafficking in Cambodia.
Brother Vellies: Local artisans from South Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Morocco create shoes inspired by local traditions with ethically sourced materials and a modern twist. Every once in a while, they make disco mules with pom poms too.
Cuyana: Have you ever wished you had a super-streamlined, minimalist closet full of beautiful, well-made basics? Then Cuyana is for you. The celeb-loved label will even give you a $10 credit to clear your current closet so you can start fresh (find out more about the Lean Closet initiative here)!
Doen: This brand has a full apparel line — complete with shoes and kids gear — created by a collective of women who have always been inspired by vintage design and old-school California vibes.
Erica Weiner: When not collecting antique jewelry, Erica Weiner is designing her own pieces using recycled gems and details from days of yore. It’s the perfect blend of old meets new.
Kintu: The brand sells a line of minimalist, modern, and effortlessly chic bags that try to promote real craftsmanship around the world. The bags are tanned and assembled by Italian leather makers using hardware from Kenya and handwoven brocades from India.
Knix: This innovative intimates line features leak-free underwear and an evolution bra that actually molds to the shape of your body. Underwear you can wear to the gym, work ... anywhere? The future is here, my friends.
La Ligne: Two Vogue editors and an executive from Rag and Bone walked into a bar ... and came out with an idea to start a line completely dedicated to the stripe. (OK, we are not quite sure if a bar was involved but everything else is true.)
Mercedes Salazar: If you are not familiar with this Colombian designer’s earrings, you are not having enough fun in life. Big, bold, eccentric, exotic, and simply beautiful, they are the perfect way to add flair to any ensemble.
Slow Factory: These out-of-this-world scarves are printed with breath-taking images from NASA telescopes and satellites.
Tosia: Think simple classics with unexpected details — these are pieces that transition very well from day to evening.
Truss: These handmade polyethylene bags are made using traditional weaving methods and come in an array of gorgeous colors. Each bag helps promote artisanal trade in Northern Mexico, with a percentage of profits supporting young Oaxacan women.
Universal Standard: A clothing company dedicated to providing “beautiful, quality, modern, elevated essentials for women size 10-28.”
Wildfang: Blazers and bowties for all! This radical company is liberating men’s clothing from its gender labels and restraints so that women can wear whatever they darn please. Some call their line tomboy clothes. Some people just call it clothes.

Anastasia Beverly Hills: I have almost non-existant brows. I am not a makeup person. Thanks to Anastasia, all these secrets are safe with me. I swear by her dipbrow pomade. It is fool-, water-, and smudge-proof.
Charlotte Tilbury: Want to look like Kate Moss, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Lopez, or Rihanna? Well, no promises. But a good place to start would be to using their makeup artist's beauty line. Tilbury's mantra: “Give a woman the right makeup and she can conquer the world.”
Glossier: After trying nearly every product under the sun, a couple of beauty editors decided to produce their own line of “uncomplicated makeup staples that live with you — not on you.” Cheers, cheers to that!
Juice Beauty: Founder Karen Behnke was on a mission to radically transform the chemistry of beauty. Juice Beauty’s chemists start with an organic botanical juice base (aloe, jojoba, grape seed, shea, infused with citrus juices) and add powerful age defying or blemish clearing ingredients to deliver highly effective, clinically validated results.
NuMe: One woman turned her personal struggles with hairstyling into one of the most-hyped curling wands on the planet. Hair stylists and YouTube celebs swear by it.
Tatcha: Victoria Tsai channels the ancient beauty secrets of geishas to bring you a natural skincare and beauty line that also gives back — a part of each full-size skincare product goes to funding a day in school for girls in Asia and Africa. Now that's beauty, inside and out.

Dusen Dusen: Known for her fun patterns and colors, Ellen Van Dusen has taken her quirky Brooklyn-based home line of pillows, duvets, blankets, and towels all the way to the likes of West Elm.
Marabou Designs: This stationery company also has a pretty cool selection of wall art.
S’well Bottle: You are supposed to drink a half gallon of water ... a day! Which means you should almost always have water on you, ready to be drank. Best way to lug that water around? Hands down, in one of S’well’s designer bottles, which keep liquids cold all day long.
Sugar Paper: This is your chance to be the friend with the best stationery.
