It took a decade of apartment-bouncing before I finally scored a bedroom big enough to fit night stands on either side of the bed. A queen-sized bed at that! In New York City! I know. What is this life of luxury I lead?
Well, before this, I lived in a bedroom that was the exact width of my full-size mattress. Length-wise, beyond the mattress, there was just enough room for a door to open. I lived there until I woke up one morning screaming because I thought I was in a coffin. There was definitely no room for a nightstand in there!
Before that, I lived in a room that somehow had 4 doors. Not even joking. It was the biggest room in the apartment but it also housed the apartment's only closets. Having a room that was partially “communal” was difficult. Trying to arrange furniture so that you didn't block any of the doors was even more difficult. Needless to say, there was no room for nightstands in there either.
But now, finally, I have room! Not enough for anything large and in charge. But, the cute little nightstands I have are enough for me to not have to worry about accidentally kicking over glasses of water on the floor. They are also just big enough for me to put lamps on them, so I no longer have to get up to turn off the light after dozing off from reading. My room also looks so much more complete — and chic — with nightstands. I highly recommend it.
The thing to keep in mind when shopping for nightstands for super small spaces is that the tables should be functional, but also decorative.
Luckily, there are more compact night stands to choose from than you think! Here are just a few …
Murray Drink Table
You may think you have zero space, but I bet you can find room for this dainty side table. Trust me, it may not look like much, but even having something like this to put a glass of water on will add years to your life! This antique-brass table will also add a touch of elegance to any room.
Kartell Max Beam
When you have a small bedroom, you don’t really want a solid chunk of anything in the room. That’s where this transparent piece comes in. It looks big in this picture but only measures 13-inches wide. It is the perfect night stand if you have modern or minimal decor.
Triangle Side Table
You know how when you look at a piece of paper from its side, you can hardly see it? This night stand is kind of like that. You won't even know that it's there.
Kiley End Table
If you’re going to introduce another piece of furniture into an already-tight space, you need to make sure that it performs some kind of double duty. This side table offers a bottom shelf on which you can stash a stack of books or display a bit of foliage.
Sachem Drink Table
A splash of color is a good idea for any home décor.
Tri White Marble Side Table
At once simple and ultra-elegant, this marble night stand is the clean, uncluttered aesthetic you need to usher in sweet dreams.
Ritz Tall Side Table
Talk about mood lighting. For dramatic effect, you can place a light on top of the table to reflect off the mirrored top.
Spark Shell Craft Contemporary Floating Nightstand
Here is a nightstand that takes up zero floor space. When you are dealing with limited square footage, that is absolutely key.
St. Germain Side Table
For those of you with a little more room, I love this side table that also functions as a magazine rack. Can’t decide on your bedtime reading material? Not a problem because it’s all at your fingertips! This one is a bit of a splurge. But you said "no space," not "no money."
Componibili Storage Unit
Remember what I said about double duty? This piece functions as both nightstand and storage, which is something you can basically never have too much of.
Willa Arlo Interiors Deklan Mirrored End Table With Storage
Is it even there? Having a mirrored side table is not only super glam, it will also help amplify your small space.
