A Shore Thing

Kathy talks about summer in Jersey.

By Kathy Wakile

Hello, everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Memorial Day is here. I was lucky enough to celebrate surrounded by friends and family in our backyard with some poolside barbecuing. It is always a special time of year for us, because it officially kicks off summer here in Jersey.

More importantly, let’s take the time out to observe the true meaning of this holiday. We should all be consciously thinking about the brave men and women who are away from their homes and families while dedicating their lives in military service to protect this great country of ours and to defend our freedom. On behalf of my family and I, our deepest thoughts and prayers are with all those who are without their loved ones on this patriotic holiday. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your sacrifices.

Since it is the official kickoff of summer here in New Jersey and throughout the country, I would like to remind all the wonderful parents out there to have “the talks” with their kids about safe practices throughout the summer. As we all know, our children are out playing in this beautiful weather, but unfortunately so are the dangers. It’s never too early to talk to them about having a sense of alertness and responsibility during summer activities. Accidents do happen, that’s why they’re called accidents, but we can never be too careful. While it’s impossible to completely shelter them from all dangers of life, we can be proactive in preparing them to be able to handle themselves in such situations. As parents, the one thing we all share is the fact that there is nothing more valuable to us than our children and their safety.

OK so summer is here, and we’re going be spending it down the shore (as we call it in Jersey) and poolside with family and friends. Contrary to what you may have seen or heard about the Jersey Shore, it has so many different activities to offer for everyone. Each town and area has a different feel to them and provide something special. It is what we look forward to all winter in Jersey. If you should happen to see me and my family kayaking, at the beach or just hanging out on the boardwalk, make sure you say hey! We always love meeting new people!

So what’s happening with you guys? Anyone care to share their interesting plans from the weekend or the rest of the summer? Would love hear them!

Be sure to check out my public page on Facebook (Kathy Wakile) and follow me on Twitter at @KathyWakile. Love hearing from you guys!

See you next week! Be safe! Lots of love!
