Andy Cohen: My Mouth Is a Gift and a Curse

The Watch What Happens Live host opens up about career and conscience.

It's Andy Cohen's mouth that makes Watch What Happens Live so darn enjoyable to watch: You're always on the lookout for him to say something beyond ridiculous either to a celebrity or a caller, and it's always with a smile on his face. Still, it's a delicate balance knowing how to keep it in check, Andy says in an interview with NPR.

"My mouth has been my greatest asset and also my biggest Achilles' heel," he says in the interview.

It's that over-the-top personality that Andy has helped bring to Bravo, creating shows like the Housewives franchises among others that lure people in thanks to that face-pressed-to-the-window allure of living vicariously through others. And, as Andy puts it, "we don't pick wallflowers, to put it mildly," when it comes to casting for said shows.

And while Andy's big mouth has shot him into the executive ranks at Bravo, it's not about that for him. "The one guiding principle over my 23-year career in TV has been as long as I'm having fun, I really don't care what the job title is," he said.
