I’m on the train heading back to New York from Ogunquit, Maine (an extraordinarily magical little coastal beach town) reading some of the recent press on “NYC Prep.” It’s astounding how many people are talking about this show and how emotionally charged many of the articles are. The New York Times ran an article this weekend titled “Who’s Afraid of NYC Prep?” which talks to school officials and parents who are “outraged” and “mortified” and their kids who think it’s “better then Gossip Girl.” Next I opened this weeks New York Magazine which printed an in-depth feature claiming that the show presents Manhattan as a “moral hell” and that PC took the bait to be on the show because we “supplied trappings of wealth… even a private plane.” I chuckled at the absurdity, imagined PC doing the same and put the magazine down. Then I turned to Richard Lawson’s recap of episode two on Gawker (so beyond devilishly witty!) and laughed so hard I woke up the woman sitting next to me on the train. Thanks Richard!
After only two episodes on the air, I’m not really sure what to make of the reaction from the schools, parents, and press. The show has certainly hit a nerve and it feels good that people are watching and talking. I guess it would be nice for the articles to mention that these kids are also running charities that raise hundreds of thousands of dollars, are landing coveted internships, and are pursuing their dreams of attending Ivy Leagues and beyond. All this while dealing with the same pressures from friends and parents that all high school kids face. I am honestly extremely proud of the way the cast has been handling themselves since the show started airing and hope they continue to have fun and enjoy the ride.
A few things that stood out for me in episode three…
Hello!
NYC Prep is a fantastic TV show. I am a public school student from the midwest, yet I completely relate to all of the cast members. For example, Taylor's confusion about choosing between Cole and Sebastian, completely mirrors a situation that happened to me this past fall. I'm just now going into my senior year of high school, and Camille's struggle with SATs, universities, boyfriends, and friends is exactly what I endured (and still am enduring with...). Each person on the show has such great personalities, and I feel as though I know them.
Good luck to all of the cast members, in all you do! :)
I just want to say that when P.C. was in Mexico he was talking to some girls. Afterward, we told his friend they were from Texas (speaking about the girls) then he began speaking, not directly that there was something wrong with them just because they were from Texas. As a proud Texas girl, I was offended. I want to know what he meant by "they are from Texas." What is so bad about Texas??? I dont know anyone who judge anyone just because of where they are from and so when some says something like that I take offense. If you came to Texas we would welcome you, and show you around. We woulndt judge you just because of where your from. I also want to know if realzes how many Proud Texas Girls there are they didnt care for that statment. We can go head to head with onyl other girl in the United States, and beat them out. We are just as smart, fun, rich. and anything that you might think makes other girls better. Justy because we are from Texas doesnt make us any better but it damn sure doesnt make us anyworse. P.C. you might want to think before you say something liek that again.
I like how Sebastian tries to act like a "Player" and he fell for Taylor so quickly.I also like how Taylor sent him into the "friend zone" before he could even try for second base(LOL!)I am so thankful to be out of my teenage years.I'll admit that the show is addicting but it is also painful to watch them try and be adults when they're just kids.
I find this show to be so predictable! Does anyone remember the book, the movie, Cruel Intentions and of course the new tv show Gossip Girl! It's great to watch the show one week and then predict what will happen the next! Of course, Taylor picked Cole over Sebastian! Taylor and Cole go to public school, Sebastian is in private school, yadda, yadda, yadda! The producer of this show is just capitalizing on an old theme for the Generation Y set!
TOPIC:GooD idea
okay Lenid Rolov i think that it would be a realy great idea for you to make show on beyonce knowls and jay-z people would be very interested in them see how the way they live now sents they have got married think about it beyonce is this big time R&B music sing slash clothes desinger & Jay-z is this big time Rap-R&B Producer and he also have his own clothing line dont you think it would be a great show i would love to watch some thing like that and from me telling people about looks like a lot of others would enjoy the show as well
If you edit the word "like" out of the dialogue, the show is half as long!
they say bbm me which means.. blackberry messenger
On the show I have noticed that they say BDM me or something like that, what does BDM stand for?
Hey! I just wanted to say that I think it's funny you were coming back from Ogonquit when you wrote this, my family has been going there for the past 14 years and it truly is a great place! I was also wondering which private schools these kids go to. Are they the privie ivies? Like Horace Mann?
Since you shoot more than is edited down tot he final shows, any way to have two shows a week? Longer shows? More Taylor and Cole too..
I love PC. The viewpoint of all the kids are refreshingly honest and for people that will never have a chance at their lifestyle, it's like being a fly on the wall. NYC Prep is a look into a world that only a few will ever experience. Keep the camera on PC, he has more depth than the others.
The show is GREAT! But the kids are SO ridiculous. They live in a dream world, especially PC. Man I would be surprised if he actually made something of himself with out anyone's help. His comment on Texas was very offensive. Yes he might go to a prep school and live in NYC, but I can guarantee that the kids that come out of Texas will be more successful then he will ever be. Because we can stand on our own two feet. He needs to grow up and realize that the world DOES NOT revolve around him. Does he not know what is going on around him. Again the kid lives in a dream world. One day when he is alone he will learn. New York City is just that... A CITY! It does not make you any different from anyone else. This is why the world is the way it is. It just proves that the children in prep schools are worse off then the kids in public school. HE is a racist and sexist mother fucker. He is the one that is "dirty".
Why are the other cast members not blogging? I would really love to hear what they all have to say....
Thanks for tipping us off to Richard Lawsons take on episode 2..truly hilarious..but can't help but feel nervous for these kids especially PC seeing where this is going with him and they are just kids after all. Anyway love your blog..something very reassuring about you.
I'm not really sure why you're surprised that the media is not covering all of the good that you say these kids are doing. If you're not including it in the show in some form or another, how will anyone know? The only thing that people can base their opinions on, is your editing. Don't forget that.
As much as I despise watching the lifestyles of the elite NYC prep school kids, it is a guilty pleasure to watch and see the drama that unfolds between them..
you guys are doing a great job, taylor and cole are so cute!
Love the show!! Also, my family and I go to Ogunquit, Maine every summer, love it!
The producers should seriously look into a solo endeavor for Taylor. She could easily be the next Lauren Conrad.
Okay... you are doinga great job... but why arent the boys blogging??? And where is Jessie's blog???? I know they have some stuff to say!!
The webmasters got it wrong when they compared Sebastian to 70's teen idols. He looks and sounds just like a younger, blond Jason Gedrick. It drives me crazy every time he is on the screen!
My favorite part is the competition between cole and sebastian! I liek sebastian but I hope Taylor chooses Cole, he's super cute!
These kids are way more interesting than the New Jersey Housewives. One of my favorite things to do is to read the blogs. I wish the other kids on the show would blog as well.
Why doesn't PC, Jessie, or Sebastian blog?? Also, at the end of the season, is there going to be a reunion show of some sort?
