Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was spotted without his wedding ring over the weekend at the Living Legends of Aviation Awards. It was his first public appearance since announcing his divorce from his wife of 25 years, MacKenzie Bezos, after it was revealed he’d been having an affair with TV personality Lauren Sanchez. Bezos and Sanchez are now a couple and are expected to attend the Oscars together.

Us Weekly reports that while Bezos skipped the red carpet and questions from reporters about his love life, he did accept the Kenn Ricci Lifetime Aviation Entrepreneur Award as well as the Jeff Bezos Freedom’s Wings Award, and was not wearing a ring.

Apparently, he doesn’t live by the etiquette rules of Emily Post, who advises that “both spouses usually continue to wear their wedding rings” until a divorce is finalized. According to the BBC, some people might not rush to remove the ring "out of a sense of respect," but "taking it off does help one psychologically ... It's a pretty emotional decision. Ultimately it's all about how you wish to be seen — whether you wanted the marriage to continue or not."

Bezos and MacKenzie announced they were divorcing on Jan. 9, saying in a joint statement, "We want to make people aware of a development in our lives. As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends."

The divorce may make MacKenzie the richest woman in the world — her soon-to-be ex is worth $137 billion and they never had a prenup.
