Modern Family star Julie Bowen confirmed some sad news on February 2. After 13 years of marriage to real-estate investor Scott Phillips, the actress is now separated.
Through the years, Phillips has remained largely out of the spotlight despite being married to one of television's most beloved stars. And though he gladly accompanied his wife to some red-carpet events, the twosome was also content to do their own thing.
Back in 2016, for example, the couple's anniversary fell on the date of the Emmy Awards. So, while Bowen attended the glitzy event to support the rest of the Modern Family cast, Phillips spent the day playing tennis.
At the time, Bowen told reporters: "[Scott has] come [to the Emmys] every year, he’s been so supportive and this year he was playing in a tennis tournament and I wasn’t nominated as an individual so I said, ‘What do you want to do on our anniversary?’ I mean it’s such an honor to be nominated and to go, but it’s tough to be a purse holder.”
Even though any separation is a bummer, we have a feeling that Bowen will be starting a modern family IRL. The actress and Phillips share three sons — Oliver is 10, while twins John and Gustav are 8 — so there's a good chance that the two will stay closely connected.
It's plain that Bowen's comittment to her family is strong. The actress recently posted an adorable snap of her little ones playing around at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. And, she always seems down for kid-friendly activities ranging from fun runs to whipping up holiday decorations.
No matter what, it looks like Phillips and Bowen have plenty of special memories to share.
