Getting “ghosted” takes on a whole new meaning for a woman in Bristol, England.
Amethyst Realm, a 27-year-old “spiritual guidance counselor,” claims to have had sex with at least 20 ghosts, and now prefers them to real life men. She recently appeared on British show, ITV This Morning, to talk about getting it on with ghosts.
It all started 12 years ago when she and her then-fiancé moved into a new house and a strange energy turned physical, touching her, which eventually led to sex.
“It started as an energy, then became physical,” she said. “There was pressure on my thighs and breath on my neck. I just always felt safe. I had sex with the ghost. You can feel it. It’s difficult to explain. There was a weight and a weightlessness, a physical breath and stroking, and the energy as well.”
That ghostly affair carried on for three years — until her human husband, uh, walked in on them. He came home from work early on day and saw a man’s shadow through the window. Hard to say who’s crazier.
But, Amethyst carried on with her ghost fun, racking up at least 20 sexual “partners” who aren’t flesh and blood. Now she wants to get pregnant with a ghost baby ... umm, good luck getting child support.
“I’ve done a bit of research into phantom pregnancies,” she said. ”There’s a possibility that it is a ghost in you, but people don’t know how to carry it to full term.”
Resident paranormal investigator at the Morris-Jamel Mansion in New York, and Gotham Paranormal Research Society co-director, Vincent Carbone, tells Personal Space that he tends to look at every ghostly experience as a ‘skeptical believer,” which is interesting since he investigates the paranormal.
“Overall as far as the existence of ghosts, when I lead investigations, I’m skeptical believer. I believe the vast majority of claims are either embellished, misinterpreted experiences, or outright fabricated,” Carbone says. “That said, I have had experiences I cannot explain, but I don’t know if ghosts exist 100 percent. Some of the things I’ve had happen on investigations have been unexplainable.”
Carbone gets hired to investigate claims of the paranormal in homes, businesses, hospitals and so on, and says he doesn’t claim to have any abilities to sense or feel, he’s just a normal guy with some tools and gear in this topic. “I’ve devoted my life to this,” he says.
As for his own most freaky experience, that came while in college, when he worked the night desk as an attendant in a dorm lobby and, on one particular night, had an unexplainable experience.
“It was after midnight, very quiet night. It was a very small lobby, to the left men and women’s restroom and to the right elevators … on this night, I heard water running from a faucet. I know no one had been in the bathroom, I went into the men’s room, the lights were off, the water was on, I turned it off. I kew no one had been in there. The same thing happened to another attendant, and we had found out in the 90’s an RA had hanged himself in the lobby there.”
Other times, he’s heard “footsteps, voices,” and it’s startling, Carbone says.
So what’s his take on Amethyst and her ghost lovers?
“First, it’s like why is this a thing in our psyche? We want some kind of gratification that this isn’t it, that there’s something else out there,” says Carbone. “Some people are adrenaline junkies…I see people where every creak of the door and wind blowing is a ghost. We have to talk about importance of debunking claims … It could be spirits or it could be raccoons.”
He says if he were called to investigate this woman’s claims, he’d first ask her for some sort of medical history. “If it was me, I don’t think I’d be able to help her, she needs to speak to a therapist,” he says. “Do I think she’s having sexual intercourse with a spirit? No, but I can’t speak on other people’s experiences.”
He says there may be two things going on here:
“If someone says to me I’m having sex with ghosts, either you really believe it or you’re looking for a book or movie deal,” Carbone says. “Without getting too graphic … if you’re having sex with ghosts, are you being penetrated, we can prove that one way or another with tests. If this woman wants to me to come investigate the house, OK cool, but when she tells me the story, I’m thinking, ‘I’m probably in over my head.'”
Carbone stresses he’s not a medium who “contacts” the dead, in fact he wants to be left alone.
“If there’s such a thing as ghosts or spirits maybe, do they come and visit? That’s where it gets really tricky … I’ve heard many stories like this before — incubus (a spirit form of a male who, according to paranormals, lies upon sleeping women in order to engage in sexual activity with them) and succubus, (a female demon believed to have sexual intercourse with sleeping men) are things people believe. With that said, all joking aside — things that happen in people’s pasts can manifest themselves in different ways. In her mind if something has happened in her past, and she’s into the paranormal to begin with; it’s an obvious connection.”
