Erica: Peace, Love, and Happiness

Erica Gimbel finds the moments that bring her joy.

By Erica Gimbel

Peace:
In the words of Rodney King, “why can't we all just get along?"

I wish we Princesses could! But, you put six women together with strong and outspoken personalities of course there is going to be bumping of heads, fights, and tears. I believe to start we must all acknowledge that the six of us are different from one another (which is obvious). I think as women we need to embrace each other’s differences, and instead of talking badly behind each other’s back and passing judgments, we should have respect for each other and be open-minded about each of our personalities. I am not saying we all have to be best friends, but we should all show consideration for one another.

I have become very close with Joey, and it upset me to hear her being called low class and trashy. Joey is the farthest thing from that. She has a strong personality and her humor can be mistaken by some as an insult. I know she knows this and only has the best intentions. She has a huge heart and has always been there for me.

Love:
Watching Chanel go wedding dress shopping with her sister and mom and crying to Casey in the park really broke my heart. I really understand how she feels. A lot of people we both know (and that is a lot of people) are settling down, married, or are having kids, as she said. So, when you are not and want to be… it hurts. I know in my heart she will have it all: life success, happiness, and love. Sometimes when we are not getting what we want in life, we get frustrated. I keep learning that when we feel that way, all we can do is breathe, be patient, and let go.

Happiness:
I know this is an area of my life I have struggled with. I have at times gotten to dark places and used the wrong outlets to fix my unhappiness and anxiety. I have learned that does not work. I am still finding myself and learning more and more that a beautiful day at the beach, seeing a beautiful sunset, doing charity work, and spending quality time with my family brings me so much joy. Life is too short and fragile and we really must live each day to the fullest. We never know what tomorrow will bring.

“Life is full of surprises and and serendipity. Being open to unexpected turns in the road is an important part of success. If you try to plan every step, you may miss those wonderful twists and turns. Just find your next adventure-do it well, enjoy it-and then, not now, think about what comes next.” -Condoleeza Rice
