Well, for me, this episode was the Project Runway first among Project Runway firsts! Why? Because I served as a judge for the first time (and, hopefully, the last time) ever. Here's the back story: Bravo and the executive producers approached me before our Bryant Park show to say that there may be a problem with our guest judge and, consequently, how would I feel about filling in. At first, my response was a roll-up-your-sleeves and "make it work!" form of positive thinking, but as I contemplated the reality of it, I pushed back and refused. Consider the following: I still had another visit to the designers that night and there would be a considerable amount of time needed to support them in the morning before the show. How could I be both a mentor and a judge and service their needs appropriately and responsibly? I believed that I couldn't. So, to make a very long story a wee bit shorter, we ended Thursday night's bevy of phone calls in the following way: Bravo and the producers would ardently search for a replacement judge and I would return to my work with the designers assuming that I would not be a judge If I were to be needed in that role, then I wouldn't be informed of that need mere moments before the show. Otherwise, I could be perceived by the designers (and anyone else mind you) as being duplicitous and insincere. That would never do. Furthermore, Kenley and I were engaged in an semi-incendiary relationship, and the worst thing that could happen would be for her to lose and have me perceived as being the reason why. Oy!

Tim, by far I think this was the most talented group of men and women! It was awesome to see that the top 3 finalist were women! I was glued every week to make sure that I have not missed a thing! This is one of the few shows that I truly enjoy! Look forward for January's new episodes!

Carol Hannah was robbed. Her dresses were gorgeous and she should have won.
Irina is arrogant and her entire collection was black--she is not skilled with color.

I really miss you, Tim !!!! I don't believe there is a kinder heart in the television business.
By the way, I would watch Project Runway 4 times a week if they were available (new episodes though), so What are you doing, Bravo? Where is my all-time favorite show??!!

Hey Tim,
I've watched Project Runway with my wife for years and Guide to Style when it started and love the shows. My question is this; do you have a Top 10 item list for Men? Something that would help me focus so that I could get my wardrobe in order. Thanks Tim and blessings!

Dear Mr. Gunn,

How fortunate for anyone to have your tutelage in fashion design. Your ability in critiquing while encouraging and inspiring garners you all the respect and admiration I and so many have for you. Would that all tutors of creative expression own such a wondrous gift, the world would, indeed, be a more beautiful place!

I watch the show with great anticipation of your critiques and hearing the now famous quote of encouragement. "make it work"!

Thank you for sharing your remarkable talent with all who watch Project Runway! It's been "Delicious"!

During this season Christopher Straub made a blue an brown chiffon dress for the surfer's challenge. And I agreed with the judges - it did not meet the challenge. However, it was called un-wearable and I wanted to address that. Last nigh there was a 1968 film called "The Pwer" starring George Hamilton and Suzanne Pleshette. There is a minor character in the film that George goes to see and she is wearing a blue chiffon dress and the midriff was brown chiffon. It looked like a 1968 version of Christopher's design. I used to make clothing for the stage In New York City in the 70's. I think there are girls out there that would wear Christopher's dress. maybe too much Hollywood influence in the judging??

Hello Mr. Tim,

My 4 year old daughter (Kylie) and I love the show. While watching the other night she asked "Why don't they ever design any clothes for men?" I thought that was a great question. I told her I would send an email to you, so that maybe you could pass it on for her. With a sincere thank you.

Dear Tim, just an idea for the show. Maybe the designers can be given a vintage dress (designer or not) with the challenge to de-construct the dress and make it modern, adding material from Mood, accoutrements, etc. Thank you.

Hi Tim,

Love the show! I was watching the Denver Broncos beat the San Diego Chargers Sunday October 18. I thought keep the team coach but fire the fashion designer! Someone get Tim Gunn on speed dial. I'd love to see the designers make new uniforms for the NFL teams with the worse fashion sense. Denver Broncos being at the top of the list. Hideous!!! San Diego may have lost the game but at least they looked good! :D

I am sure you here this all the time, but you are an inspiring person and I am very pleased that there exists such a wonderful forum to communicate. I must say that I truly appreciate your sense of intuitive thinking. You are realistic about where we are in the world of fashion and yet can provide the positive and negative aspects. Something else you hear all the time, aspiring designers. Well I am one - but to be honest all I see these days in the world of fashion appears repetitive and not only in a trendy way. What do you think would be an encouraging move for the future of America for designers who don't want to play copy cat roles. I love the idea of reinventing oneself and believe we need to stop spending our hard earned cash on items that we will wear once.... with a shaky economy to boot. (pun>)
What do you think - granted I don't think we need to sacrifice to the point of looking like sloppy joes, either!!

Tim I have a great idea for a episode. What about having the designers design for ADAM LAMBERT. I'm sure he will be doing a lot of appearances in the future. The designers could go crazy designing for him, SO MUCH FUN!

Hello Tim, I love u and the show!! I think you should replace Heidi as a judge on the show. I can't sew garments together, but I have big dreams of designing my own clothes. I was wondering if you could help me get started by telling me what I need to do. I hope that you would be able to replace Heidi on the show. I think you have way more knowledge about fashion than her. Thank you

Tim,
I have just finished watching your show with Leann, Kenley and Korto. I was listening very carefully to each of the judges' comments. I did not hear any negative comments on Korto's designs, so naturally I assumed that she would win. All of you three judges had some negative comments about the other 2 designers. Why did Korto not win if you had nothing negative to say about her collection??

Dear Tim, I just adore you! In a society where we seem to have become so uncivilized, you are classy without being stuffy and pretentious (unlike some of the judges!) Tim I am very shocked to say the least that no one on your blog or judges did not capture Korto's talent. When they brought her back amongst the worst sloppist designers, I thought for sure she would finally be recognised. She was not; only for the second best to Daniel. Daniel! I could not believe my eyes. Daniel had a flaw that was mentioned by the judges. Korto did not. The girl has excellent talent. What's the problem with Korto's look/line etc. I would like to get her email address. I am very interested in her line.

First of all I don't even know how to sew. I want to learn, I tried to teach myself but couldn't figure out the patterns. I want to be able to think up an idea and sew it, I can't draw. So can I lean how to do this? Not the drawing part but creating a garment from my own imagination. I'm not looking to become a designer or anything like that, heck I may even learn that I don't like sewing. But I want to try, so can some one give me some free tip or very inexpensive ones.

You are a good mentor and a model to follow it is clearly evident that you know a lot about the world of fashion and besides it is reflected on your behaviour, hte way you walk, you see things, the way you proyect clothes on the runway and how to encourage future designers not to ive up and to make it work because you believe on them and their potencial.
What is more, you are adorable i wish i have had an uncle like you. i would have learnt a lot a bout you and your world.

Dear Tim,

My husband and I are both huge fans of the show Project Runway. We just love you. Your taste is impeccable. I particularly love how you balance being a kind and concerned mentor without sacrificing your integrity.

IMHO you are the main reason the show is such a success.

We are anxiously waiting for the next show to start.

We also enjoyed your other show. We would watch anything with you in it, and are huge fans of couture even though we live in the backwoods of North Dakota. I will always miss New York, but it is fun to feel like I'm able to "visit" it on the show.

Tim,

My wife introduced me to Project Runway about 2 weeks ago
and we've watched all 5 seasons now. I'd have to say my
favorite part of the show is a combination of the solid
mentoring you give the contestants and your style. I'm a
30 something business person in Iowa and I've never seen
the sharp and sleek suit styles like what you wear on the
show. Every jacket and shirt from season 5 I oogled at.
What would I have to do to steal a weeks worth of your

I am a HUGE fan of project runway. I'm always excited to see what the designers will conjure up week after week with the sometimes interesting or bizarre challenges they are given. I've been a rhythmic gymnast for many years and over those years I’ve seen the basic rhythmic suit become some of the most beautiful and intricately designed outfits I have ever seen. Watching such challenges as the female wrestlers to the drag queens, I think that a rhythmic gymnastics suit challenge would be amaaazing and the designers would really enjoy the freedom of creativity, seeing how my own mother enjoyed the making my suits growing up. I hope it may be considered.

p.s. Tim, you are amazing in every way. Keep doing what you're doing.

I LOVE TIM GUNN!!! and I'm a woman. I love his sence of style and his ability to say "what's - what" with out offending. I'm bummed!! though that Project Runway's 6th season is being held up. I'm a huge fan of the show and wait with baited breath for the next season to start. I even have my son hooked on the show. (he's not gay either) But he loves to watch the show with me and see what new "fashion" is introduced. Actually, I think that he likes to watch Heidi Klum and the other models. Bravo - Lifetime......PLEASE figure things out and let us PR fans find "peace and tranquility". I say, "Let Bravo air season 6, and have Lifetime air the re-runs during the off season. Next year, they can start season 7 running." Trust me Lifetime, you will get plenty of viewers watching the re-runs. That's just as much fun as watching the actual shows. It's a "win-win" situation for Bravo, Lifetime, AND especially the fans. What do ya say....?

Tim,

Season 5 was my first. OMG I love Project Runway. I have learned so much about fashion from the show, and the show itself is also fascinating. I so admire how each designer creates something beautiful out of nothing (as in NO pattern). The main reason I love the show so much is because of what you bring to it. Your professionalism, the way you truly care about each designer shines through. As well as your passion and knowledge about fashion. All of you are so creative. It's obvious you're a wonderful person and I'm a big fan.

Tim,
unlike you, I was confident that you would do a great job judging and you did not disappoint at all. In fact, I would argue that because you know the designers work you have a greater appreciation for what they went through creating their collections and that provided you with an even better position to assess their work because you saw how the collections transformed from each point. SO as long as you didn't let negative experiences, like those with Kenley, cloud your judgment, you of all people, given your teaching experience as well, could give the most accurate scoring of the work. great Job!

I hope You can read this. I have been watched almost all Project Runway Seasons and I have become your fan. I love the way You are and how You show style in every you are and behave. Unfortunately, I have never met anyone as you in real life. I really hope I could meet you or get contact with you. Also, I am artist too and I would appreciate your opinion about my designs.
I admire you, my gentleman.
