" Out of the tree of life ... I just picked me a plum!" Darlings!!! It was a morning of all mornings -- the air was perfect, the city at 5:30 is so quiet, I arrived at the tents at Bryant Park with coffee in hand, and in my other the original sountrack to the film that was the inspiration for my show.

As the models all arrived I had a chance to chat and calm my nerves. Then it all began. Sweet P was there covering for MTV, then there was SOAPnet, then Cognac, Newsday, and so many others all inquiring as to what my inspiration was ... etc. At one point my emotions became overwhelming and tears ... well let me say this: In life when you see that your dreams have come, true how could you not get emotional, Especially after being told all your life you would never amount to anything.

Darlings. The show started with Michael Buble singing "The Best is Yet to Come," a song that has been a part of my life for many years and became even more special after I befriended its author Cy Coleman. The show at Bryant Park went by so quickly. The girls looked so wonderful in the clothes and my new Bijoux collection. Then Ubah and Amanda Fields grabbed my arms for my bow. I nearly lost it. Darlings, I was so honoured -- I received my second standing ovation in a row this season. I went backstage and tried so hard not to cry. I remember someone telling me the only person to get a standing ovation in the tents is Ralph Rucci. As this is a designer I adore, I was even more honoured. Afterward I met some friends for brunch at the Roosevelt. Then it was off to see Rebecca Taylor then Christian Siriano. Beautiful work darling!!!What a brilliant day!

Friday morning was the Project Runway finale. It is always an honour to see the work of these new designers. It is always good, I had my favourites that morning. I had the honour of being seated by Laura Bennett and the lovely Kara Janx. Later that day with Amanda Fields and Luca Orlandi we closed the NASDAQ. Then I went to the Project Runway wrap party. I was so happy to see Rich Bye and Jane and Alex from Magical Elves. Without them my journey with Bravo and Project Runway would never have begun. Darlings I was desperately in need of sleep. I woke Monday and went to the premiere party for Ugly Betty -- it was lovely chatting with Vanessa Williams and many of the cast members. I hope this season to be featured on the show. Now its time to take a moment to remember the beautiful moments I have had with Project Runway and Bravo. Do you remember this blog:bravotv.com/blog/malan? So many brilliant memories with Project Runway, then having my very own show, The Malan Show. Meeting everyone at Magical Elves and everyone at Bravo over the years: Zac Hug, Jason Comis, Bo Powell, Chris Slava, Andrew Cohen, Valerie Brown, Lauren Zalaznick, who have been my family for so many years.

Darlings, and most of all allowing me a place to share my dreams with all of you. Always promise me you will try and that you will not let anyone stop you from your dream. I hope I have shown you that anything is possible no matter what life obstacles you have experienced.

Darlings this will be my last entry for Bravo as my time has become so occupied with my collection and my international television appearances. I will always cherish the special moments we all shared and hope you will stay in touch with me over the years. Thank you.

So one last time, in tears of joy I raise my glass to you and chin-chin! To all of my beautiful friends all over the world, thank you. You gave me something I never dreamed I would ever have in my life, a family of wonderful friends.

Love,
Malan

P.S. I like how they say it in Hawaii, "Aloha" ... Until we meet again!

The Real Winner

No doubt about this years Project Runway 5 winner!

Just a heads up that my book Fashion Inside Out is almost upon us! Though I've heard places are starting to ship it out, the official release date is on 10/28, so mark your calendars! I'm heading out on a book tour to celebrate with you all, so be sure to check my website for details on times, dates and locations: www.danielvosovic.net. After a year and a half in the works it would be delightful to see all of your supporting faces!

But NOW, it's down to business! PR5 has finally come to an end. I hope after a week of digesting we've all be able to form clear-headed opinions about who we really thought was the winner.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I hands down think it should have been Leanne, but what did you think? Tightly edited, unique and comparable to no one, I think she did an excellent job of taking her inspiration and running it cohesively through each and every piece she sent down the runway. Unlike some of the other designers, Leanne's work is both subtle and intricate, and I applaud her to no end for being able to successfully straddle that fine line, especially at exactly the right time. Korto and Kenley both showed very nice collections, but I do think that Leanne was the one who had the whole package. Korto's sense of color and proportion are excellent, and the way she styled the looks was just intoxicating - the high buns, dewy skin, and fluttering fans - she certainly infused a lot of "earthy sexiness" into it. That being said, you take away all of the extras and we're left with clothing that didn't quite stand up to Leanne's more intricate work.

To me, watching Kenley's show was like watching your friend go into her glamorous closet, and parade out to see if the look is a "keeper" or a "throwaway." Although it was filled with definite highlights and interesting (sometimes costume-like) elements, I just didn't feel that it was a cohesive collection. One of the highlights for me was the green silk dress with the ballooned shoulders - I just thought it was a chic, well made, and truly stunning look.

All in all, these designers will find work and hopefully create stunning collections in the future. Congratulations to them all for coming this far and a HUGE congratulations to Leanne for the win! I'll see you in NYC sweetheart!
