Lilly Ghalichi Reveals What Surprised Her the Most About Childbirth: "They Don't Tell You Any of This"

The new mama wants to write a book on what she knows now.

By Jenny Berg

If Lilly Ghalichi was nervous about childbirth before the big event, perhaps it's a good thing that she didn't know exactly what to expect. Because, as the brand-new mama has discovered, labor is hardly a walk in the park — and, no, the mother won't be "so skinny" immediately after the child is delivered. And that's just the beginning of all the things that surprised the Shahs of Sunset alum.

On October 7, the eyelashes expert took to Instagram Stories to share some real talk. "It's officially a week since I gave birth. I'm exhausted. This is so hard. I have newfound respect for all parents," she shared.

Lilly continued: "They don't tell you any of this, I swear. I'm going to write a book called The Truth About Childbirth because there were so many things that I was just not prepared for. I'm going to tell you some of them right now." Ready for Lilly' lessons? Keep scrolling ...

First, Lilly didn't realize that the so-called baby bump takes weeks or months to diminish. "They don't tell you is you are still going to look pregnant after you have the baby. I swear to God I thought I'd just be so skinny after the baby came out, but you're not." True story, Lilly!

Next up, she added: "Second thing they don't tell you is that breast feeding is no joke. The way that your boobs gain during pregnancy is nothing compared to what happens after you deliver. They get huge! Not only do they get really big; one of mine got super painful and hard." (Ed's note: Engorgement is too real, too, and it's something that's typically covered in depth during breast-feeding classes, should you choose to take one. If not, no judgement — there's nothing like learning on the job! And, as Lilly discovered, this is where lactation experts can come in handy.)

Next, Lilly delved into hair loss, but was quick to admit that she didn't experience it, luckily ... and plug her favorite Hairtamin products. "When you're pregnant you're full of estrogen from the placenta. When you deliver, it gets ripped out and so does all that estrogen. So most women experience a lot of hair loss — luckily, this is one thing I haven't experienced," she shared, talking about how the brand's shampoos helped her. Shampoo came in less hany for the actual delivery, when Lilly had a "tiny labial tear." Eek!

But in the end, Lilly wrote: "She is worth it all," to caption a photo of her little angel. And perhaps that's the most surprising and wonderful lesson for all new parents.
