This 40's inspired hairstyle is brought into the modern world by moving from classic fingerwaves into frothy curls. For the color, a brighter copper-red on the top gives her look a fun pop, and a deeper red around the face and intermixed throughout the interior give the style depth, thickness, and an organic feel. To create this look, I first set the hair on a 3/8 inch iron, and let cool stretched over 1 inch curlers. I then brushed out and formed the waves, and back-pushed the curls with my fingers to create the airiness through the ends.

This is a updo, with extentions and, a mold up. She was attendding her junior prom. Very difficult client.
-
This was actually a hairstyle I created for Prom 2009.
-
I was going for Classic Hollywood Glamor, with this hairstyle and makeup.
-
WINNER! There is no better way than to make such a statement then with a special and unique up-do. This unique hairstyles convey an attitude for the red carpet. Simply Divine!
-
this style is just some candy curls that were curled with thermal irons & nexxus extra holding spray.
-
A classy look achieved by a few hair pieces and flat ironed to look sleek and smooth
-
I took this Beautiful young girl and made her feel more beautiful and confident!! To add a little more interest in her appearance I took Virgin hair to Gorgeous cool tones. with Matrix color! 1A+3n (equal amounts)and Vlight with 20 volume toned with 8n and 8v to kill all the brassyness. I also added Micro link extensions not only for length but for more volume to Give her a more luscious look!
-
My client has very thick, naturally curlly hair and wanted it EXTREMELY straight and flat looking along with a natural looking red color. I first colored her hair with Matrix Color Sync 6 BR. I then completely dried her hair with a paddle brush before even the first cut. After her hair was dry I trimmed the ends and proceeded to lightly thin her naturally, curlly hair with my scissors by slithering down the hair strand to remove bulk while still keeping the integrity of her hair. I proceeded with professional hair products to complete the style. I have several photos of this client and her finished style, but I choose this picture because it shows off her color, and haircut in a unique angle...thanks for viewing my photo!

Hi, My name is Lee I have been a hair stylist since 1987. This a picture of myself. I put a full weave in just for a new look. it's synthetic hair. I own a small hair salon in Kissimmee Florida. I do all hair types and truly enjoy doing hair. This hair style is very classic and curls are fun and sexy.
-
This hairstyle represents a soft modern look. Great for a flirty night on the town! Texture is always a good look for a first date! To create this style Start with diagonal back sections from the base to the part line. Use a working spray and mist the section. Then with a flat iron Curve the each section away from the face and continue this technique until you reach the part line. When your finished use a blow dryer to break up the hair to add a random finish. Finish the hair with a light hairspray!
-
My model Melissa had straight hair, I used a thermal protector on it before using a concave tong on it to curl and wave the hair, then used a grooming creme to separate the and soften the waves and curls. Its a strong style than can be brushed and not just fall flat in the middle of a date.
-
For this red carpet look, we took Catherine's brunette locks and turned her into a luscious red head. By pre-lightening the underneath, we were able to create a vibrant red that makes her hard not to notice! After coloring, we used a triple barrel iron to create the textured wave pattern. We created a little bit of height to the crown area, added makeup and now she is ready to rock the red carpet with her rockin' red locks!
-
I created this sleek and sexy style to make an unforgettable first impression. I cut her hair so it could be playful and flirty or extra sleek and sexy. The cool blond highlights enhance the look for the ultimate first date.
-
What I did with this style was combine all three pictures into one. her hair is naturally wavy/curly, which led me to leave the bang a little longer. She wanted something very delicate as far as the layering went so that she could wear it in a ponytail without worrying about it being too choppy and pieces always falling out. She was naturally a very ashy dark blonde, so I decided to take her darker with a really nice red undertone. If you look very carefully she has some more intense highlights of red hiding in there to give her that little "surprise" element! Hope you like it!
-
Its been awhile since Courtney has been out and she is usually a very low maintenance. I wanted to give her soft and sexy curls. She has beautiful full and shiny hair.
-
This is a long sideswept bang with a longer shag cut
-
Inspired by Olya, i have created a straight and super smooth shiny look. I've also incorporated the side bang, but flipped outwards to create an illusion of a different texture and
-
for a first date look you want to keep it simple and fun.For this style and color I used powder lightner with 20 vol. developer, and 5 g a medium golden brown. In back to back very small slices of foils. And to spice it up a couple peek-a boo majgenta slices.to style a very layred cut, smoothing balm, little mousse, blow dry with big round brush. Then went back with a flat iron to smooth and add loose playful curls toward the ends.
-
This is hairstyle was done for a breast cancer awareness fashion show. The theme of the show was "glam rock".
-
The integrity of Monique's hair is compromised. With a precision cut and silky smooth color...no one will ever know the difference. Her vibrant straight hair coupled with a youthful swept fringe, whispers simplicity... while shouting sophistication.
-
This was a updo for a 20 year old girl. She wanted a messy side bun. SO i smoothed her top and made a loose side pony, then I used rubber bands to pull up into messy bun and texurized the ends to make it look peicey. You can see but the front she had a soft side bang. LOVE IT!
-
This is a classic bob and its perfect for a first date. Its friendly and inviting but you still mean business. I did the color and haircut. The finishing on the cut was very smooth with volume. I also put a little bit of dry shine to give it that movement.
-
This style was achieved by blow drying with a root lifter then curled on the outside of a 1 inch curling iron.
-
I do not have any sort of training in hair styling but I feel that it comes to me naturally. I cut, dye, and style my own, my friends and family's hair. This is my newest look. The color is a burn auburn with honey blond highlights on the top and medium brown low lights on the bottom. I did a layered modern look with a slight curved bang. The style is a blow dryed messy look straightened at the bottom and curved out at the ends.

Jana Mankunas, St. Louis, MO
"For my model, Cecelia, I started with a thermal protectant, evenly distributing through the hair. I curled small sections and clipped them up to cool. After cooling, I took sections down and lightly ran my fingertips up each section to create separation and texture, also to add volume. Very sexy and flowing!"
-
Xavier M., St. Louis, MD
"I used a texturizing spray on my model's hair and then wound the hair around a one-inch tong, then separated the hair with a light pomade to define and shine the hair while letting it still blow and move softly."
-
Mandy P., Creve Coeur, MO
"For my model Stephanie I blew her out using a round brush. Then I took two-inch sections and curled them with a one-inch iron. I finished her style by back-combing her crown to add volume!!!!"

Sweet as cheesecake

Carmela Oliveri, Midlothian, VA
Inspired by the photos given I went with the look of the side pony. Keeping it simple yet adding some uniqueness to it with a side part french braid in the front. Simple yet fun and elegant.
-
Monique McLaughlin, Clearwater, FL
This Indian-inspired Bridal updo shows the intricate curls pinned with adornment on top, while the loose curls flow to the side. The volume on top helps elongate the face, while the side-swept bang softens it.
-
Elisha Howell, Canton MA
"I added extensions, put a piece of color for my taste (doesn't have to be there), and instead of sweeping it, I lifted the sweep, then took a barrel curling iron to finish the look ... I also did the make-up!"
-
Jessica Melendez, Peekskill, NY
Client wanted her hair swept to the side very soft and no curls, modern and simple.
-
Katie F., Milwaukee, WI
"This is actually a guest that came in on my last day of cosmetology school a couple weeks ago. She was attending her sister's wedding later on that afternoon and was completely indecisive when it came to how she wanted her hair styled. After narrowing down her likes and dislikes, we determined she wanted all of her hair put up with some loose waves... this is what I came up with!"
-
Brandi B., Hurricane, WV
"Not as wild as tonight's hairstyles "with the flowers," but in moderation"
-
Carli Lionhood, Dubuque, IA
"Just a simple side ponytail with a flower to brighten the champagne color of the top of the dress. I curled my whole head and then started twisting and braiding pieces into the side of my head and started pinning!!!"
-
Katharina Eileen Perez, San Antoinio, TX
"This was a summer wedding in San Antonio, TC. My Client (Kat) wanted all her hair up and wanted to make sure it was not going to fall out while she danced at the reception. I gave her what she wanted and she loved it. I think my updo was very modern with a fun twist to it. Still very elegant with the color. With it being so hot in Texas, the updo was great. It was off her face and off her back."
-
Shannon Shumaker, St. Petersburg, FL
WINNER! Simple yet elegant side-swept style. Great for a bridesmaid or just a fun night out on the town.
-
Martha Munoz, North Hills, CA
My model has thick curly hair and she wanted a smooth elegant updo. I started by making three pony tails and parting off a portion on the top front. Starting with the bottom pony I wrapped the hair around my hand and pulled it through, pinning as I went. I continued the same with each pony. I teased the top portion and smoothed to complete the updo."

Fran N., East Moriches, NY
"A sweet, modern bridsemaid look!"

Samantha B.
Pin up styles are my PASSION! I taught myself how to do these styles by studying how to videos on you tube. This style includes traditional liberty rolls on the sides. I pin curl set the rest of the hair and added the flowers for authenticity. I had so much fun doing this look and I hope you enjoy it as well!
-
The 1940's Wave was the inspiration behind this prom 2009 look
-
Nathalina N.
I love 40's glamour/ pin-up style hair and fashion. During this time period women did not have a lot of money to spend on clothes, make up, or hair product. What they did have was bobby-pins and a tube of red lipstick. I created this style with out using any product. I secured the hair with bobby-pins and made sure my asymmetrical victory rolls were tight and solid while keeping the coy glamour of a pin-up model.
-
Robert B.
The 1940’s glam of film noir was my inspiration. Lauren Becall, Gene Tierney, Rita Hayworth define that decade. Soft curls and waves, hair that wants to be touched. I created waves with 2 marcel irons, clipped until cooled down, and then brushed thru following the curl pattern. I hope every one likes it!
-
Devon B.
My photographer and I wanted to do a 1940's Hairstyle with a new age twist and this is what I came up with :)
-
Martha M.
My model has fine thin hair but I love her color. I blew dried then used a large curling iron. I brought the front right over to the left creating a wave into a roll and smoothed the back into a bob. Simple yet elegant.
-
Amy L.
I specialize in generation styling, and this was for a in-salon runway show for 40's bomber girls.
-
Wilecia L.
This is the 1940's meets the 21st century. I went with pincurls in this photoshoot and added extensions in her ponytail to make it really long and dramatic. I also added a little color to her bangs to take it up a notch. It's sexy, flirty, and very pinup!

Danielle K.
Bridesmaid to Runway beauty. 2 looks in 20 minutes, Photoshoot work done for the Tucker Modeling agency. BY DK STYLE Team , Danielle Keasling I set the first look on three pony tails. curled and lightly teased out for an angelic look. I then smoothed the look with a FHI flat iron and used paste to create the high forehead and straight style.
-
Devon B.
The softness of the waves and the lightness of my models face really gave me that Spring Glow when I created this look. I added a few light feathers as accent pieces to contrast a little with the blond (without over powering) HOPE YOU LIKE!! :)

Sarah R.
I did simple wet set fingerwaves on myself and pin curled the bottom. After drying under a hood dryer i brushed it out to make it softer and pushed the form back in place with a little shine spray.
-
This is a half french twist with the barrel curls on the top with a slight cascade to the left with a long curvy piece on the right for a little romance. I think this is a very Hollywood glamour look. I call this "Night at the Ocscars!"
-
Lexie M.
Channeling an Italian 1940s Pulled back lazy pony with a floral accent!
-
Diego G.
since i didnt see any wet fingerwaves done in the show and the only person that tried doing a wet set didnt do so hot i decided to do a traditional wet fingerwaves from the 40s.
-
Courtney S.
finger waves along the top and a low curled bun!
-
Crystal M.
Victory Rolls that I did myself with a large curling iron and hair pins.
-
Jana M.
Here's Lucy! This was a fun style to do. I used some relaxing gel on naturally curly hair, firm holding mouse and shine serum,to smooth down cuticle and add shine. Lucy has very fine hair so lots of teasing at base. I used a flat iron on base and one inch iron. It was a challenge, but she makes an adorable 1940's pin up girl!
-
Debra B.
beautiful reds and coppers, sexy!
-
Ingrid S.
This is a forties inspired bridal updo-I was inspired by her gorgeous birdcage veil & flower headpiece. Her hair was very silky and slippery-difficult to control in a polished, smooth updo like this, but we were both very happy with the finished product!
-
Amy B.
we had to do models as young generation of hairstylist. the theme was 1940-1950's. set the model under a hood dryer with rollers and some finger waves. her hair was down in big smooth waves them i worked on stage to pin her hair up in loose waves and curls.
-
Benita M.
This style is based on one of Betty Grable's looks in the 1944 movie Pin Up Girl.
-
This is my modern twist on 40's fingerwaves!
-
Lindsay D.
This is a style that is completely pin curls, just different shapes and sizes. I wasn't really going for a 40's look when starting this, but it just started going in that direction, so I went with it! :)
-
Chris A.
Its a forward/ reverse pincurl fingerwave look acheived with a curling iron. the client had accidentally burnt her hair weeks before so that was a challenge, and I only had 35 minutes to work with this model as I had 10 models Hairstyles and 3 make-ups to do for this photo shoot.
-
Shannon S.
Long part swept over to the side giving the look of wind blown natural hair. Flat ironing, hairspray and paste were used to give texture. a perfect look for Spring.
-
I thought about a play on the 70's Charlies Angels giving the hair a modern funky twist with the bold purple at the front and infusing the classic light blonde and golden blonde into it.. creating a contrast. And in the essence of the 70's leaving a slighly layered but heavy fringe and wings to give it a more suttle nostalgic effect.
-
The clothing designer wanted a 60's look, beehive. It took a lot of time and product to get her hair texture to work and hold, but i eventually got it. It was one of my earlier photoshoots, and I was very pleased with the outcome. =]
-
This hair was created using hairdreams extensions. From a thin bob to long curls with a heavy bang.
-
I took the traditional look of the classic french roll, and took it too a modern edge. Instead of rolling the hair at the back, I made 4 ponytails, and basket weaved the top and sides into each pony, and frayed out the edges. I like the smoothness of the French Roll, and then when you turn around, it takes on a whole new feel.
-
I created this 70's look based on Diana Ross style. I decided to put a little high fashion twist on it by adding the feathers.
-
The 60’s gave us a lot of change, culture, politics and fashion. My inspiration is London Pop. Hairpieces, frosted make-up and “Groovy” clothes. Looks to me likes it’s back!
-
In this style, I was going for "daughter nature"; A younger version of mother nature, since it"s spring.
-
This hairstyle has a lot of inspiration from Audrey Hepburn in Charade. It has an old hollywood feel with a little bit of modern day twist.I wanted to make the bang a little different than just the side swept bang you would normally see back then.
-
I have a lot of hair (no extensions), and it is VERY straight. So, to get this wavy, full, look, I blow-dry my hair almost completely dry. Then, I simply make quick fat pin curls all over my head, and go about my business for about 45 minutes to an hour. I pincurl my hair while it is still soft, but almost dry. This keeps it from getting TOO kinky, curly. Then, I remove the fat pincurls, and turn my head over and shake it loose. I back comb just a little underneath to give it some "oomph" because my hair is so thick and heavy, and then I use a small metal pick to gently "lift" the waves. I love curly and wavy hair, but since I'm turning 50 this year, I thought I was getting too old to wear this style, but I actually get a lot of compliments on it, still. It's quick and easy and can be worn casually (as seen here) or with a nice evening dress, and also looks nice in a loose updo. It's fun!
