Patricia Altschul Gets "Real," Confesses She Bailed on Her Vegan Diet Because... Red Lobster

The Southern Charm matriarch needed her fix.

By Jenny Berg

Patricia Altschul is not, in general, someone who enjoys eating vegan. In fact, here's what the Southern Charm matriarch told The Feast about that time she tried sticking to a plant-based diet for just 14 days: "I’ve tried to be a vegan like [son] Whitney [Sudler-Smith}," she said. "That lasted two weeks and I gained four pounds. I don’t know how he lost weight, but I certainly didn’t." Well, Patricia has maintained her tepid feelings on the diet, and she has just the Instagram post to prove it.

How to Watch

Watch Southern Charm on Peacock and the Bravo App.

On October 24, the kaftan purveyor shared a snap of herself outside of an establishment that — like Costco or McDonald's — is definitely of the people.

To caption a photo of herself standing outside a Red Lobster restaurant, the Charleston style icon teasingly wrote: "I can only do the plant based diet for so long [Whitney Sudler-Smith]," followed by the hashtags for "real," "food," and — because this is a Red Lobster, after all — "biscuit."

And by the way, the chain's bisciuts themselves are famously non-vegan, loaded with butter and cheddar cheese alike.

But wait! We sense a pattern. Could it be that love for lobster — like style and charm — runs in Patricia's family? Shep Rose recently documented a night out at dinner with some pals, including Whitley. In his Instagram Stories, Shep noted that while the "common folk" ordered fried chicken, Whitley went for... wait for it... "the full lobster."

That's just how his mama raised him!
