Season 1
When I walked in to Chicago Male they were like gay deer in headlights—in fact, I think I might have scared the gay right out of these boys! It was a good team but they had absolutely no leadership as Scott the owner was never there, and Ric wasn't an effective manager. Scott's 30 minute $30 men's only business model wasn't working especially when the salon was only booked to 25% capacity. The only way a biz can be successful is when you have butts in chairs and Scott was being a little too precious about his strategy. So I had to give him a wake up call.
The fact that Scott wanted to say that the staff eating, texting, gossiping and overall lack of professionalism was due to the laid-back-keep-it-casual-boys-in-boys-town was BS. Let's face it, who demands better service than "The Boys?" It was due to Scott being MIA and the drive thru business model. Scott claimed he wanted to give clients a high end experience but how can a stylist do that when they are rushing to meet the timer? Scott had no understanding of this because he is not a stylist and didn’t spend anytime in his business.
great information you write it very clean. I'm very lucky to get
this details from you.
Tabatha, I am a retired hairdresser and just love to watch your shows. I am so proud of you and how you clean up the "beauty business". I think all people in the business world need to watch your show to make a difference in business ethics and customer service. You make me proud to have been a hairdresser. Thank you for your intellegence and fortitude.
Dear Tabatha,
I love your show!! I'm literally glued to the t.v. screen every time your show is on Bravo. I just wanted to let you know that I think you did an extraordinary salon make over at Browne & Co. It's a pity that Nikki could not take ownership for her mismanagement...Any salon owner (in their right mind) would have felt privileged for the knowledge and service that you provided for Browne & Co. You're truly a talented salon owner and a pleasure to watch!
I'm a retired engineering professor, but if I was still teaching, I would make my students watch at least one episode of your program. The principles that you use to "debug" a defective salon are terrific. The methods required to lead a team of skilled professionals are the same no matter what the field, so I enjoy watching you very much.
Can anyone help us contact the show. We are26 employees that are in desperate need of her help. This is no joke, we are serious and we have all been together for so long and don't know how to get our owner to become re-involved!!. Thanks
Tabitha you are my idol. Why is it that strong, independent outspoken women are always called bitches?
I work in a difficult field and have been labeled a bitch at times. You boost my resolve and convictions. I can't wait till your next season!
Tabatha.... I love you. Never a dull moment. Next time you wanna slug some schmuck for calling you a bitch.. Holla... I'll slug them for you.
Who ARE these people.. Ill never cut my hair again without a health inspectors presence.
Tabatha. You are doing so mutch for our industry.I have been an owner Barber/Stylist for over 30 years.and i hope more people in our profesion watch your show each week as I always do.No matter how long a person is in any business, they can always learn from someone like you. You are the best and I wish you many more years of success..
LOVED THE CHICAGO MALE SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL AROUND ONE OF YOUR BEST........CANT WAIT FOR THIS WEEK!!! LOVED THAT RECEPTIONIST WITH THE ASCOT........AN ASCOT FOR GODS SAKE, THIS MAN REALLY DRESSES FOR WORK!!! GIVE HIM A RAISE
I am a big fan of your show. And with money being tight it is a luxury to pay 30.00 dollars for a hair cut plus a tip. Since watching your show, when I do splurge on a cut, I want my moneys worth. a nice even cut, clean salon and a professional workplace.some place that I would come back to.I also like the tips for cutting hair that tabitha gives bacause when I am broke I cut my own hair.
You rock Tabitha. Love your show. I do fear for you sometimes since people seem to get quite upset when you first arrive but I've noticed you can take care of yourself :)
I was quite surprised, on watching this episode, to find that NO ONE mentioned that it is illegal in Illinois for a place of public accommodation to discriminate on the basis of sex.
Dear Ms Tabitha,
I just watched this show for the first time tonight and it happened to be this episode about chicagomales. My parents were the watching it and they own a salon in Columbus, Ohio. Her salon does need a lot of work, similar to the work you did in this episode. She is definitely struggling to keep it going. She works everyday and stresses her life away with this spa. She needs help! Please email me back about this, i would love to hear your input.
Tabatha,
I absolutely LOVE your show! You do such incredible work with these God aweful salons! And don't listen to any of those people who do not appreciate all you do, because without you they would have nothing!!! I am still in college, and I force all of my roommates to watch your show and now they are addicts like me :) keep up the good work, love what you do!!
Hi Tabatha I was raised in the beauty industry and finally managed my own Trade Secret Salon and took over a store that did absolutly nothing when I started in Jacksonville Florida had no stylists anyway I made it a sucessful salon then the gave me the boot I loved that job it was my life anyway do you have any connections in the atlanta georgia area where someone might need a salon manager..
RE: BROWNE'S & CO. salon - This episode was unbelievable! Tabitha, nothing could save the "Dragon Lady" from herself. Is she still in business? I have never seen anyone so absolutely negative and so vain that she thinks her crew of stylists are nothing to her. She seems to think they are bottom-dwellers, not worthy of her consideration. She would accept no criticism of herself; she expected you to fix her stylists instead. I think you did your best.
I wish that Tabitha could come to the salon that I work in and help my workplace the same as she has helped the others. We need her badly. I am getting alot of great ideas for my chair, I wish my owner would follow Tabitha show and we could all make money! And do what we love which is do hair and make people look good and feel good about themselves. Espically in this rotten economy.
Hi Tabatha I love your show. You are so amazing in what you do for the salons. I am a salon owner myself and I have been in business for a little over 2 years. I am still striving to grow this business. I have a wonderful staff. What can I do to get you to come to Greer South Carolina?
Tabitha, you are my favorite thing about tuesday! love love love your show and the hard work that you do. you are an incredible woman. XOXO
I would love to have Tabitha come and do my WHOLE LIFE! Seriously, I think this show should be required viewing for students in high school and college -- because it is about PROFESSIONALISM and TRANSFORMING A SITUATION. I have no interest in the hair business, but I get a lot out of the lessons on the show. Students, especially, need to learn to be professionals: at the moment, they're professional students, but if they learn these lessons, they transfer to every field.
SALON MAKEOVER is the ONLY show I watch regularly on TV, if you can believe it. I have never been a TV fan, but for this I make an exception!
Hi Tabitha,
My daughter and I love your show. I am an esthetician. I am looking into going back to do hair which I love to do. I want training that is excellent. What schools are the best for this? I am relocating from WI to a warmer climate. Maybe your suggestion will help determine what stata I go to. Please if you would help me in this decision of what schools are best. There are so many out there and some are horrible. Thank you so much. TH
Tabatha the Great! You are strong, smart, beautiful and caring. Love the show. Anybody who provides customer service can learn from you. Thanks for being you and being part of a reality show with substance.
I love Tabatha's show! I'm not a hairdresser, never have been. I don't watch daytime tv and watch very little night time tv, mainly news programs. I accidentally came across one of her shows... and now I'm hooked. Absolutely addicting! Tabatha is an awesome, strong, intelligent woman with loads of common sense. You go girl! Don't change the show, just keep coming with the new episodes. Absolutely excellent show! Tabatha is absolutely a Woman's Woman!
"Men only"?!?! Not only is it small-minded, but it is quite illegal in the US to discriminate based on gender. I'm surprised there wasn't a lawsuit.
Tabitha, I thought you did an amazing job with the "gay deer" as you put it. As a hairdresser myself I understand that the 30 minute business model wouldn't work, that's deffinately a time chrunch. I love watching you whip salons into shape every week, and just wanted to say on a personal level that I look up to you. I have an incredible amount of respect for your work and professionalism and I aspire to be like you in my own career. Thank you for being such an amazing role model. :)
Chelsea.
Tabatha,
I've been a hairstylest for 30+ years, and I have seen tacky, unprofessional, dirty, stylists and salons throughout my career. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, for being real, and saying all the things I've always wanted to say. I love and admire you, and am excited to finally see someone who can say it like it is. I'm your biggest fan ever!
-Robyn
I love your show! I'm currently in beauty school and it desperately needs your help! I know you only do salon takeovers but wondered if you could takeover my school, i have been in school since august and have not even been taught how to cut hair. Our teacher barely shows up for class and when she does show up we do not learn anything. I don't wanna get my liscense and end up like the stylists you have to help,I want to be like the ones you change.PLEASE HELP!!
Great show! What an ignorant business plan... men only? As a gay man, I believe the only thing women do when they're in the picture is improve it.
LUV,LUV,LUV YA !!!You are the best!! Everything that you say and do is exactly right .I have told all my clients to watch you and they tell me that our work ethics and professionalism are the same. I too have been a hairdresser for many years and if you do the right things and treat people right you will stay busy even in a recession .I just opened my salon in Pa. in october2009 so that I can do things the right way .My motta has and always will be "Treat others the way you wish to be treated and always give 110% .I used to be the manager at the SFA salon in Palm Beach Gardens,Fla when I took it over they were doing about $50,000 a year and I had to fire the old ones and hire all new Our profit margin went up a whopping 94% .If you ever need an assistant Please call me. KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK !!!!!!!!!!!
Just got to finally catch this episode on the weekend. What a great show. I must say, I think this may have been the salon that needed your help the least! These guys were all so willing, so eager and with the exception of "that one blonde diva"...talented. Good work! Plus....their curtains NEEDED help!
Tabatha,
I love watching your show. I've been able to watch them all while I'm on maternity leave, but I know I may miss it when I go back to work, and I want to know will people be able to purchase the all the seasons on DVD? I am just a huge fan of yours. I look forward to all the episodes and you never dissappoint me! LOL!
Tabitha is so watchable! I am loving this new show. I have nothing to do with the salon business, but I love watching Tabitha be direct and clear with these people who are running their businesses into the ground for simple reasons. Tabitha is it.
Hello Miss Tabatha
I love the show. I'm a new salon owner and stylist you inspire me to run a professional salon. It makes me have a hole new outlook on the salon life and how it should be ran. The salon makeovers is fabulous. I would like if you would come to Akron Ohio. Keep the shows coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tabatha,
I just watched your episode on Chicago male. it was a inspiration for me. i just opened my Mens Grooming Lounge in Salt Lake City 4 months ago. how do i contact you to possibly come out and do a take over for my facility?
Hello Tabatha! Girl, you are the sh*&! I love your confidence and your style. You absolutely are a professional in your field and you give a great deal of new inspiration to these business owners who needed help with falling in love with their businesses again. I got one question for you....please tell me....where can I get one of your turtleneck sweaters that have cutouts for your hands? I absolutely love turtlenecks and I would love to have the one you were wearing in this episode.
thanks for being my inspiration for a new confidence,
Latisha from Hampton, VA
just finished watching chicago male, & all the suggested changes were long overdue; however, one that wasn't addressed was the salon's name. if chicago male is accepting female & male customers, shouldn't its name be changed to, for instance, chicago male & female?
How do you get Tabitha to come to a shop. I live in a small town and work in a shop! We would love to have Tabitha come over.
Chicagomale was a fantastic episode. I admire and respect Tabatha. I have been going to the same salon for over 10 years.
Sue
Tabitha, love the show!! So happy that we get to watch you on Bravo every week. Keep up the good work. It has to be frustrating to talk sense and have no one understand you, but you always bring them around!
I am addicted to your show. Love it. When I mentioned to my stylist that I watched it, I noticed that she started paying more attention to my haircut.
You are making it impossible for stylist everywhere to continue with lazy habits. :) thanks.
I LOVE this show! It is so awesome. All i have to say is if she walks in salon be ready to be whipped into shape for real!!
The only episode of "Tabitha's Salon Makeover" I've seen was the one exposing ChicgoMale... and I LOVED it!! It was nice to see you bring those prima donnas down *several* notches! You have proven that a holier-than-thou/superior-gay-attitude does not always translate into a profit. Thank you for that!
Love your show and i respect you for tolerationg some of these people who don't respect you. i mean come on this woman is trying to help you and she has over 25 years experince in the hair buisness. and that Chicago Male salon? i'm sorry there is no way you could finish a client in 30 minutes and you can make more money cutting women's hair more than men's i mean helloooo $100 is better than $30.
LOL @ gay deer in headlights, if only they could see their faces when you walked into their salon way too funny. this episode was way better than the nikki episode. Drew needs to step up to the plate and at take your advice to become a better hairstylist otherwise he needs to look for another job. keep up the great work and looking forward to the next episode. Happy New Year!!!!
Love your guts lady! I work with salons here in Canada and I can tell you for sure that I get more results when I work with the team than the salon owner. The only problem any salon has lies with the owners. Once they step up to the plate and become the leader of their company things change, until then we band aid the sore spot.
wow and yes i watched this episode......yes i agree you can't do a hair cut in 30 mins for $30......after all we need to taper and edge and blend!!!! i know i am a hairstylist, and doing a mens cut has to be perfect other wise it looks flawed like you tried to do it at home!!! love the show!!!!!!!!!
Tabitha,
I love you and am planning a trip to NYC to get my hair done by you. YOU ROCK!! What the f@#@ is wrong with these people that they do not listen to you! You are so smart and so cool! How about opening a salon in Houston so I can get my hair done right! Love you girl and if one more person calls yo a bitch I am going to bitch slap them!!
Jj
love your show and also again love that turtle neck!!! where did you get it!!
i hope all salon owners watch your show and get hints to help them with customer service...
Tabatha is great because she teaches Americans how to be Americans or the way we used to be in the country. The obvious irony is that she is a foreigner. The American virtues she teaches are professionalism, hard work, dedication, honesty, service, common sense, and personal responsibility. When was the last time you experienced that in shop, salon or workplace?
I have enjoyed you ever since you were on Shear Genius. More than any of the others you were the BEST. You were always true to yourself. You don't hold back and you tell it like it is. I love your show and look forward to each episode (I even enjoy the repeats) Just keep on Keeping on !!!! Best of everything. Happy New Year
