Season 1
Bang salon had the most unprofessional behavior I have EVER seen. It was truly amazing to me that they had any clients and I found their conduct offensive on so many levels. Darren thought visiting the salon should be fun and entertaining - he called it “dinner and a show” and he said that just because you had a hairdressing license didn’t mean you had to be professional. REALLY DARREN?
Drinking on the job, writing slut on client’s heads for all to see, sexual innuendos, and dildos in drawers does not and will not build a clientele. I knew it was going to be a bumpy road.
The staff shared with me how much they liked Darren as a person but had no respect for him as an owner, and they were all losing clients because of his antics. They were also afraid to book certain clients if he was going to be in the salon because he offended so many of them with his crude conduct. It was also incredibly distracting to their work and the only one that seemed to really partake in the activities was Leona.
Leona was Darren’s sidekick enabler and the one that would try and cover his butt with his clients if he got too out of control. What I realized during my assessment was that Darren couldn’t focus and take his client or his job seriously, he had the attention span of a 3 year old and Leona totally hyped him up and her work suffered because of it. The other stylists were able to focus and do good work, except for Guy who was a challenge because he wasn’t open to trying new things.
I LOVE TABATHA! She is right on the money, tells it like it is, is very straight forward, upfront, and determined. The world needs more Tabathas. I definitely enjoy this show. I just like the way peoples' egos go down the drain when confronted with their issues. Keep taking over all salons nationwide, Tab. I wish you the success you deserve for being so talented, professional, and addressing people just the way they need. BRAVO!
who what that lady that tabitha brought in for epsidoe 3? she brought in the lady name kim kimball i am not sure if the name is correct and whose hair has she done?
I LUV! LUV! LUV! YOU TABATHA GURL U KEEP IT FUNKY! I AM A HAIR STYLIST FROM THE PHILADELPHIA AREA. KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING.I SAW YOU TODAY FOR THE FIRST TIME ON THE WENDY WILLIAMS SHOW. YOU ARE IN MY TIVO AND I WILL BE WATCHING EVERY WEEK. I HAVE ALSO GOT SOME ADVICE AS WELL.
After seeing Darren in the preview and even AFTER he got himself cleaned up, etc., I still would not want to go into his shop! Forget it! He embarrassed me PERIOD. Afraid I still would be embarrassed by his behaviors after all that.... Jesus Mary and Joseph!!
This may not be the place for such a post, but I could not find an "ask Tabitha" section on this site. I am very interested in becoming a hair stylist, and would like Tabithas input on picking a good school. I dont want to come out of school like some of the stylists I see on the show that dont have a very good skill set. Thank you very much, BLT
Tabatha, You really whipped Darrens salon into shape.Just in time I might add. In this poor economy people are very picky where they spend their money and they're not about to go anyplace where they don't get the best treatment and where they don't feel their money is well spent.Another great job.Someday when I save up I'll come to your salon for a great cut and natural looking perm!!!!
Tabatha, I hope you washed your hands 100 times with bleach after touching that dildo! And I hope he has really embraced what you taught him and continues to exhibit a level of professionalism. I enjoy watching every week.
Wow, this one was cringe-worthy. I really wonder if this salon will last another year. (I'd put my chips on "no.")
This was almost unbelievable that any business owner could act so childishly! The "Slut" on the clients head was completely unforgivable and I think if I was Tabitha, I would have walked out and never returned. Sorry but I don't think that Darren deserved Tabitha's help! I am sure there are much more deserving Salon's out there that really could use Tabitha and would appreciate the help. Darren is a moron and while I feel for his family, he really needed to feel what it is like to lose his business then maybe he would grow up. A "Bitch Tamer"? That is offensive and I would be willing to bet that each time he brought that out of its little drawer he never saw that client again. Hopefully next week Tabitha will work her magic on a deserving salon.
I really liked this episode. The entire salon staff was open-minded and willing to change. Tabitha is very observant of people and able to articulate her observations in a succinct way. She's a very capable businesswoman.
Load up on the hand sanitizer and wash your hands 1,000 times after touching that dildo, man I shook my head in disbelief after watching that episode, Darren did not deserve your help, but you knock him back into reality. That poor lady in the chair with the word "slut" on the back of her head and that other lady in the chair she looked so frightened looked like she wanted to make a run for the door.looking forward to the next epidsode. keep up the good work.
Tabatha, you are the Gordon Ramsay of hairdressers, and I mean that as a complete and total compliment. What you do for the hairdressing business is the same thing chef Ramsay does for the restaurant business, and it's a great thing. A great deal of the salons that you touch you leave them with a standard to hope for. I'm just saying this, because I grew up with a hairdresser that I called Mom and she had her own little salon. Keep up the good work and best of luck to you.
We are just about to open a Salon in an upscale beach community. How can I offer our Salon for Tabatha to do a show on how to open a salon the right way?. We would love her input and be happy to share this opportunity with the rest of the hair community..?
Tabatha,
You are amazing! What I would give to meet you, being a part of your team would be equally amazing! I've been a cosmetologist for 35yrs,I have a tendency to judge others and made very serious attempts to enforce great 'CUSTOMER SERVICE' ha! Good Luck with that. I've been judged as well for making an attemt at it.I truely admire what you do and I it my mission to learn from you that maybe some day I could make a difference in this industry and be successful at it. Thank You Lois Hunter
Wow! What a fool. I can't believe Darren had any clients. He conducted his consultation with no interest or inspiration. His professionalism was zero when he handed his client the color chart to choose her own color. Choosing a color that is appropriate for her skin tones is HIS job. Hopefully, the transformation you made will stick and that he will be eternally grateful for your help in making him finally grow up!
Tabatha - I greatly admire you and love your show. I think that the skills that you use to shape up these salons could be applied to many other types of small businesses, too. You are inspirational, fair, honest, funny, and professional. You deserve all of your success.
All the best, Scott Howlett NYC
I was a nail tech. But, I love watching Tabitha. She goes in and lays it all straight out on the table. With no lies or shaded areas. She Rocks. This world needs more like her. The world is loosing it's manners and good morals. World has gone too loose.
Tabathas,
I have a salon in Columbus, Ohio and there is some work that needs to be done.I watch your show and you were professional on this show right to the point.I feel this is what this salon needs the situation was the same and you came and save the salon. Please email me this would mean a lot to me. To see a complete turn around in this salon. The salon itself needs work and also hair stylist.
I just saw the "Bang" episode. Holy what ever, I don't even know how to express what I saw!!!! What a horrific salon. The manager/owner is the most unprofessional person I ever seen. It was hard to watch. -Tabatha, I don't understand how you keep your calm
i can not believe what i just saw!!! that is the most horrific episode i could ever imagine. it was hard to watch. it probably the most idiotic behavior. - Tabatha, i do not understand how you keep it together! i would have lost it.
I need you in CT! How do I get your help? Our industry needs you around here. Thank you for reminding me what a leader and stylist needs to do...
Tabatha,
The behavior of owner Darren was obnoxious, crude, lewd and juvenile. Did he ever graduate from high school? The stylists must have been equally insane to just go along with his assinine pranks for so long, before they decided to say "so long"... I credit your patience and fortitude for giving the owner exactly what he required: a lesson at school. As for the salon transformation: You must be a magician to turn lead into gold.
Hi, I own a hair and nail salon, I am not a stylist, I am a stylist assistant...I rent stations to three hairstylist and one nail tech...my question is, what is the responsiblitly of the renters in the salon? I think I am being run over by my stylist, and I would like to know what they should be doing to keep it clean and attractive...Judy
I love the show,i am about to open my own salon here real soon.i watched the last show and i really do think that sometimes jerry springer is about to come out and say that u got pranked.professionalism always comes first!
If I walked into Darren's shop and he acted like that with me, I probably would have contacted the BBB. His customers should not have to sit there while they are being sexually harassed, and that's EXACTLY what he was doing to his clients. He's disgusting and he should be ashamed of himself.
Love your show. i know a few salons in my area that need something done but one question i do have. Alot of the salons that u make over are not clean gross in my mind how are they able to pass inspection from state board
Hi Tabatha~ I love you & your show~I wish you could cut my hair. I also love the way you wear your own hair. I lived in nyc for 30 yrs. & now have lived in Kentucky for 8 yrs. If I had known about you then I definitely would have waited the 3 months to get a style from you! You Rock Sweetie~ xxoo Patty
This weekend I watched a Marathon of your tv reality show. Got to tell you that Im not in the beauty salon industry, but it was the greatest show I ve seen in years, Im a Manager myself in a total differente field, but it was like you were talking to me. Congratulations!! This week at the office has been all about Tabatha.
I like Tabatha's directness. She is smart and she doesn't put up with stupidity and laziness.
I'd like to have a directory of salons in Houston, TX that meet her standards and are neither too snotty or too low brow, but rather in the middle!
On one hand, too many salons have a superior, condescending and patronizing attitude that is laughable considering that the stylists generally have little education, are from the lower or lower-middle class, and have dubious moral standards.
On the other hand, too many salons are sort of $ Store in their look, staff, and clients. These seem to specialize in old lady perms and a too-familiar, red-neck attitude and approach.
Tabitha
You rock girl! You keep it real with people whether it hurt their feelings or not. people need to hear that sometimes to do what they need to do. It is so easy easy for people to have a dream an get caught up with life. People loose that passion and desire to do what they do best. I love how you remind them why they did it in the first place. Everyone should be doing what they love! the key is to remenber why you love it. Never loose that passion!!!!!!

I just found your show a few weeks ago and it is amazing! It makes me cringe that some of the salons I have go into may have really looked like that behind the scenes. I have found my one and it has take 20 year and I am content. Great front service. Fun atmosphere but professional. Things are always clean and neat and I am always offered water and treated with respect. They are becoming a family to me and I am the client!
Tabitha, you come back after 6 weeks and for the most part things look great. Have you found salons that have failed?
Tabitha I love your attitude and professionalism! Don't change cause if you do you won't be able to what you do so well!
Looking forward to the nightmare of next weeks episode!
I know nothing about hair but Tabatha is a fabulous business consultant. She gives advice that is so solid and straight forward that any business person could benefit from. There should be 26 episodes of this series. Bravo did a great job getting this show on cable.
i think that all of the enployers should just leave nikki in her mizary. that women needs to go dig a hole an stay their for an eternaty. i is an unhappy person. and shes their talkin about how people should change the why their cloths looks an to put make up on.she calls her self a hair stylest she should take a brush to that wild hair of hers. she is extremly unhapy in my oppinion.
Many salons you go into seem to have some form of alcohol in the refrig. or break room. Then there are others where the employees are drinking during the day and even a few offer it to the clients. It blows my mind. I am a teacher now, but as a former licensed liquor server and store employee, what they are doing is highly ILLEGAL in most jurisdictions and risky behavior from the legal liability standpoint. If you don't have a license to serve, sell or have open intoxicants in the shop, you could be arrested, sued and lose permits. Why do you need to drink at work? Why would the owner risk everything by allowing this behavior in the shop?

Tabitha,
You are awesome!! I love you and your show. You know your stuff and you call people on theirs..I respect that! However, I think you should come to D.C. there are plenty of salons here that could use your help!
