Tabatha tells us how she helped Nik take back control from Sabina.

on Feb 14, 20110

Concerto was taken over before I even got there by Sabina, a stylist at the salon. Nik, the owner, had handed over the reins and responsibility and had lost total control of his salon and his staff. The staff all disliked Sabina, because she was rude, disrespectful, and bossy. They all agreed that if Sabina was the boss they would all leave. They respected and liked Nik, but Sabina not so much!

The problem at Concerto was an amazingly passive owner and a group of stylists that weren't bad at their job, but had nobody leading them, holding them accountable, or managing them, so that they just did whatever they wanted. The staff also saw Nik not being active in the business, and they felt he didn't care so they followed his lead.

It was amazing how openly hostile and aggressive people were towards Sabina at the staff meeting. Equally amazing was how Sabina's unprofessional behavior and the way she spoke to not only Nik but the other stylists was affecting the staff and the business. Clients openly complained about her language and the way she acted and said they didn't want to return to the salon because of it.

Nik had told me running the salon had created a lot of stress in his marriage and that his wife wanted him to sell, but I knew he didn't want to do that. I figured sitting with them both and having a realtor explain to them what the salon was worth and what they would get would hopefully wake Nik up and let his wife see that it wasn't the best option and that her husband truly wanted to keep the salon. They both realized selling wasn't the best thing, but Nik was still so annoyingly passive. I needed to get him to wakeup and take charge.

Taking Nik to a martial arts expert was my way of trying to let him get some aggression out but also to help him feel empowered, so he would hopefully start taking charge. He was truly awful in the beginning, not wanting to raise his voice or participate, but he really started to get into it with the help of Master Shin. He even flipped me! Now that takes some balls!

Seeing the aggression the other staff had pent up, I wanted them to get that out. I wasn't surprised when Nicole stepped up and said she wanted to take on Sabina. She had felt so mistreated by her for so long, I was glad to see her stand up for herself and say enough.

Reopening day went well. Nik seemed ready to take on the challenge of being a boss and Sabina was quiet! I just hoped that it would stay that way. She didn't strike me as the kind of person that could relinquish the control she had over Nik or the salon. Revisiting Concerto, all the staff agreed Nik was a changed man and was truly following through on enforcing rules and holding his staff accountable. Sabina was even taking a back seat! I just hope she keeps it up for the good of the salon!

Tabatha you are an inspiration. I own a shoe store and I learn so much from watching your show. It's like getting an instant business degree. I WISH you would come and do a shoe business takeover, it would be a blast and we have great imported Italian shoes! Just a pipe dream. I really just wanted to tell you that watching your show has given me business tools that I employ and I eagerly wait for the next episode to learn more from you. Ciao a presto!

I live in the midwest. Frankly, if I walked into a salon with the stylists own hairstyles in shambles, I would walk out. I am talking about the episode about the kids salon. Each stylist looked like they had been through a blender-not attractive. They were all sloppy and looked like they had fallen out of bed. Although the shop was for kids, parents make the decisions as to where to go.

I highly enjoy your show and what you are doing to help these Salon owners. I just wanted to say that I think you would have been a great nurse. I have been a nurse now for five years and you remind me so much of my favorite nursing instructor. Keep up the great work!!

Seriously sabina was a sea witch. I had a nightmare about her that night. Although I wouldn't of let her push my ass around a salon. I would of checked that witch so fast she would of lost ten pounds that very second. Love you T

Hi Tabatha, I can't believe that next week will be the season finale this season flew by. the best part of the episode was Danielle hitting Sabina upside the head with that pillow thing (LOL) I forgot the name of it. I was laughing so hard, I hit the repeat button on the remote 5 times just to watch that scene. I hope Sabina learned her lesson and not to mistreat her employees or cuss in front of clients not acceptable. I wish Nik and his family all the best and I also hope Nik continues to stand his ground.

Tabitha, Why don't you just march on up to Washington DC and visit all the powers that be!!! I bet you could make them see "what's best for our country". You rock!

I saw couples of your shows. Love it. Why do you just focus only on hair salons but Nails or Spas? I am a nails artist, I see a lot of poor management Nails Salons. I think you also can help them too.

Wish you had been my mom, Tabatha, then I would have grown up with some major backbone. A more remarkable example of the archetypal feminine in her no-nonsense incarnation I have never seen. The show is amazing, and I hate getting haircuts, much less watching a show about it. Your problem solving is superb, your courage unsurpassed, your wisdom golden. God bless you! Thanks ever. (also très hot, but you knew that)

Your grateful fan,

Tom

when Tabitha is accessing the salon with the owners she is always in front of a black metal shelving unit with bottles of suave shampoo and conditioner turned backwards As a stylist for over 40 years I recognize most bottles lol Some are different but most are generic products

Tabatha,

You are just the best at whipping people into shape. I love your show and hope it returns for 20 more seasons!

I mean you are good, woman!

This was my first time watching the show. At first I had a hard time believing that it wasn't staged for television! I could not believe that any business owner would sit back and allow another person to take over their business and disrespect not only them, but employees and clients. Truly unbelievable. After watching I believe some people's response to challenging situations is to simply freeze and do nothing. Obviously that was the case here! Tabatha's direct and no nosense attitude was almost comical compared to Nik's or maybe I just have a twisted sense of humor! Anyway, the results were wonderful, the show was entertaining and I will be watching again!

Tabatha, you definitely managed to put Sabina back in her place. Hopefully, Nik will make sure she stays there.

Wow!! That had to be one of your biggest challenges yet! Being a salon manager myself, this episode made the hair on the back of my neck stand up! Sabina was a huge challenge and boy did you rock this one! I learn so much from your shows and try to implement things in my own salon and the change you helped Nik make is very inspiring to me! I so hope he does well, and we see how he is doing a year from now!
