On January 2, Savannah Guthrie was thrilled to announce that her friend Hoda Kotb will be the new co-anchor of NBC's Today. Kotb was equally excited about the news, of course, and everyone from Andy Cohen to Aidy Bryant took to social media to congratulate the new morning show host. Even ousted anchor Matt Lauer, whom Kotb replaced, shared "nice words" via text message, Kotb shared. But, not everyone was so kind.

Following the announcement of Kotb's new gig, one Twitter user took to the platform with an … interesting … opinion:

If you’re smacking your head, you’re not alone. Roker quickly clapped back, gently mocking the troll’s use of the word “seasoned.”

But, the jabs didn’t end there. The user came back with another comment, letting Roker know that his statement wasn’t meant as an attack on Kotb’s gender. “It’s not a gender issue but rather personality,” she wrote. “You all are in hype over the wrong issue.”

Still not deterred, Roker came back with a tongue-in-cheek apology.

Zing! Round one, Roker!

Seems like he’s pretty seasoned at the art of the hater shut-down.
