Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen Lobby for Gay Marriage

"It's not fair!" the New York 'Wife says of marriage inequality.

By Lauren Metz

We've seen her take on drama on The Real Housewives of New York City almost here, but now Alex McCord is tackling a bigger fight -- the push for marriage equality.

"The number one thing is it's not fair!" the New York Housewife tells the Village Voice. "My best friend from college shot a playdate with us on the show. I've been with him as his life was changed when got married in Vermont, and then again in Massachusetts when they moved there. One of the things that broke my heart is he'd gotten a dream job offer, but it was in a state he couldn't move to because his husband wouldn't have gotten health benefits and so on!"

Alex and hubby Simon van Kempen will draw viewers' attention to the controversial issue this season on RHONY when the couple attends a marital equality rally. Simon, who shares his wife's passion for the cause, gripes to the paper, "It's ridiculous that in 2011, there are people split up who can't live their lives because of the government!"

And Simon's been doing double do-gooder duty -- the Aussie native recently tweeted, "If u r in NYC March 31, love Opera &/or want to help the NZ Earthquake victims please buy tickets $30 or $200" and linked to voicesforchristchurch.org.
