Below Deck's Adrienne Talks Clashing With Sam

The head stewart says the third stew didn't take her job "very seriously."

By Megan Johnson

How do you solve a problem like Samantha? If you're Below Deck's head stewart Adrienne Gang, you rule with an iron fist.

How to Watch

Watch Below Deck on Bravo Mondays at 9/8c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo App.

So far this season, we've seen her butt heads with Samantha Orme over everything from preparing drinks to taking breaks.

So how come the two aren't getting along?

"I think Sam is a smart, fun-loving girl," Adrienne tells Bravo. "But that she never really took her position as a stew on this yacht very seriously. And I still had a job to do."

Adrienne adds that part of the reason they've clashed is Sam's misunderstanding of her duties. After all, working on a yacht isn't the same as being a guest on one.

"I think Sam came into this experience without fully understanding what the third stew position required," Adrienne adds. "If she had read the information I gave her at the beginning of the trip or done any prior research of her own she would have known that on most yachts of this size the third stew is the lowest rung on the totem pole and therefore relegated to doing nothing but laundry, heads, and beds, as opposed to having anything to do with guest interaction, especially on her first charter."

On last night's episode, Adrienne finally laid down the law with Samantha: she made it clear that if she's not comfortable with her job, she needs to go overboard.

But Sam wasn’t too interested in pleasing Adrienne. “I opened up and told her how I was feeling, and she didn’t even take it into consideration. So why ask in the first place?”

Is This Industry Fit for Sam?

Looking back, Adrienne explains that Sam would have had an easier time on the high seas if she had kept an open mind.

“I think if she had been more open-minded to what yachting is, how it works, and the chain of command, then she would assimilate into the environment much better,” says Adrienne. “Not to mention having a little respect for her superiors.”
