Below Deck's Aleks: I Saw Sam's True Colors

The captain's second-in-command talks about C.J. and Sam stepping out of line.

By Sydney Ramsden

On Tuesday's episode of Below Deck, C.J. Lebeau and Sam Orme get caught drinking off the side of the boat during charter hours while the crew was on Aleks Taldykin's watch.

How to Watch

In his latest interview with Bravotv.com, Captain Lee's second-in-command opens up about that night and reveals that he has no regrets about how he dealt with the incident.

CJ and Sam Get Caught

"I was furious," he says. "I felt my blood pressure rise. The minute Lee takes off and hands me command, they start to goof off, and it reflects badly on me as their leader. I wasn't thrilled."

Aleks reveals that after learning about C.J. and Sam's troublemaking ways from Adrienne Gang and Captain Lee, he finally got a first-hand experience dealing with them after the drinking incident. "I finally saw Sam's true colors—that she was there to have a good time," he says. "We all love to have a good time, but not during charter or work hours. I understand why Lee gave C.J. a hard time—C.J. is a rebel and likes to do his own thing."

Like any great ship captain, Aleks dealt with the incident head-on by telling Captain Lee what happened. Yet the toughest part was confronting C.J. "I knew it wasn't going to be pretty, but the conversation needed to be done," he says. "You have to pay the consequences for your actions, and drinking in front of your actions, and drinking in front of your crew members while they are still working was unprofessional."

While C.J. and Sam caused a storm onboard, Aleks thinks he grew from the situation and can use it when he eventually becomes Captain. "I would be happy to come back for a Season 2 as Captain and show everyone how I run things...a smoother, tighter ship with leadership and teamwork."

Do you think Aleks handled the situation properly? What would you have done? Tell us in the comments.
