Bethenny Gives the Skinny on Cinco de Mayo

How to party without packing on the pounds.

By Lauren Metz

Planning to let your fiesta flag fly on Cinco de Mayo? Bethenny Frankel is too. "Cinco de Mayo is just one of those fun holidays that screams for good food, music -- and of course -- margaritas," she shares on her website.

Bring on the spirits, but the Bethenny Ever After star founder warns, "Skip the salt around the rim of the margarita to avoid unnecessary bloating and dehydration." What else will keep the headache fairy away on Friday morning? "Drink clear tequila; darker spirits have more impurities and tend to lead to a more harsh (sic) hangover," the liquor titan continues. And as always, "Drink water in between cocktails."

A little food wouldn't be a bad idea either, and Bethenny offers a refresher course in her Skinnygirl twist on guacamole, Mock-a-Mole: you'll need one avocado (peeled, pitted, and mashed), one cup of cooked green peas, one-quarter cup of chopped fresh tomato, two tablespoons of chopped fresh cilantro plus more for garnish, one tablespoon of chopped red onion, one tablespoon of chopped fresh parsley, two teaspoons of fresh lime juice, one teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, one teaspoon of garlic salt, one-half teaspoon of black pepper, three-quarter teaspoon of Tabasco sauce.

"Combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl and blend with an immersion blender until smooth," Bethenny says. "Garnish with cilantro. Serve with tortilla chips, whole grain crackers, and raw vegetables." B provides other variations on the must-have dish, so visit her official site for more tasty options.
